Generic Rigidity Matroids with Dilworth Truncations
We prove that the linear matroid that defines generic rigidity of
-dimensional body-rod-bar frameworks (i.e., structures consisting of
disjoint bodies and rods mutually linked by bars) can be obtained from the
union of graphic matroids by applying variants of Dilworth
truncation times, where denotes the number of rods. This leads to
an alternative proof of Tay's combinatorial characterizations of generic
rigidity of rod-bar frameworks and that of identified body-hinge frameworks
Derivation of Hydrodynamics from the Hamiltonian description of particle systems
Hamiltonian particle systems may exhibit non-linear hydrodynamic phenomena as
the time evolution of the density fields of energy, momentum, and mass. In this
Letter, an exact equation describing the time evolution is derived assuming the
local Gibbs distribution at initial time. The key concept in the derivation is
an identity similar to the fluctuation theorems. The Navier-Stokes equation is
obtained as a result of simple perturbation expansions in a small parameter
that represents the scale separation.Comment: 7 pages. Minor revisions are made in ver.2; In ver.3, the

A semigroup approach to Finsler geometry: Bakry-Ledoux's isoperimetric inequality
We develop the celebrated semigroup approach \`a la Bakry et al on Finsler
manifolds, where natural Laplacian and heat semigroup are nonlinear, based on
the Bochner-Weitzenb\"ock formula established by Sturm and the author. We show
the -gradient estimate on Finsler manifolds (under some additional
assumptions in the noncompact case), which is equivalent to a lower weighted
Ricci curvature bound and the improved Bochner inequality. As a geometric
application, we prove Bakry-Ledoux's Gaussian isoperimetric inequality, again
under some additional assumptions in the noncompact case. This extends
Cavalletti-Mondino's inequality on reversible Finsler manifolds to
non-reversible metrics, and improves the author's previous estimate, both based
on the localization (also called needle decomposition) method.Comment: 32 pages; v3: minor revisions; to appear in Comm. Anal. Geo
Nonlinear geometric analysis on Finsler manifolds
This is a survey article on recent progress of comparison geometry and
geometric analysis on Finsler manifolds of weighted Ricci curvature bounded
below. Our purpose is two-fold: Give a concise and geometric review on the
birth of weighted Ricci curvature and its applications; Explain recent results
from a nonlinear analogue of the -calculus based on the Bochner
inequality. In the latter we discuss some gradient estimates, functional
inequalities, and isoperimetric inequalities.Comment: 37 pages, to appear in a topical issue of European Journal of
