Preparation of highly visible-light active N-doped TiO2 photocatalyst
A series of N-doped anatase TiO2 samples have been prepared using a solvothermal method in an organic amine/ethanol–water reaction system. The effects of different starting N:Ti atomic ratios on the catalysts structure, surface property and catalytic activity have been investigated. The photocatalytic activity and stability of the N-doped TiO2 samples were evaluated through using the decomposition of Methylene blue (MB) and Methyl orange (MO) as model reaction under visible light irradiation. Characterization results show that the nitrogen dopant has a significant effect on the crystallite size and optical absorption of TiO2. It was found that the N-doped TiO2 catalysts have enhanced absorption in the visible light region, and exhibit higher activity for photocatalytic degradation of model dyes (e.g. MB and MO). The catalyst with the highest performance was the one prepared using N:Ti molar ratio of 1.0. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurement suggests the materials contain Ti3+ ions, with both the degree of N doping and oxygen vacancies make contributions to the visible light absorption of TON. The presence of superoxide radicals (O•-) and hydroxyl radicals (•OH) on the surface of TON were found to be responsible for MB and MO solution decoloration under visible light. Based on the results of the present study, a visible light induced photocatalytic mechanism has been proposed for N-doped anatase TiO2
Isospin Dynamics in Peripheral Heavy Ion Collisions at Fermi Energies
We present a detailed study of isospin dynamics in peripheral collisions at
Fermi energies. We consider symmetric and mixed collisions of (124,112)Sn
isotopes at 35 and 50 AMeV to study the isospin transport between the different
reaction components (residues, gas and possibly intermediate mass fragments)
and, in particular, the charge equilibration in the mixed system. We evaluate
the effects of drift terms due to asymmetry and density gradients, which are
directly related to the poorly known value and slope of the symmetry energy
below saturation density. We verify the importance of an isoscalar momentum
dependence of the mean field, which is found to influence the isospin transport
since it changes the reaction times. We finally suggest two observables
particularly sensitive to the isovector part of the nuclear equation-of-state:
the correlation between isospin equilibration and kinetic energy loss for
binary events, and the isospin content of the produced mid-rapidity fragments
for neck fragmentation events.Comment: 34 pages, 15 figures, Nucl.Phys. A, in pres
Magnetic enhancement of CoZnFeO spinel oxide by mechanical milling
We report the magnetic properties of mechanically milled
CoZnFeO spinel oxide. After 24 hours milling of the
bulk sample, the XRD spectra show nanostructure with average particle size
20 nm. The as milled sample shows an enhancement in magnetization and
ordering temperature compared to the bulk sample. If the as milled sample is
annealed at different temperatures for the same duration, recrystallization
process occurs and approaches to the bulk structure on increasing the annealing
temperatures. The magnetization of the annealed samples first increases and
then decreases. At higher annealing temperature ( 1000C) the system
shows two coexisting magnetic phases {\it i.e.}, spin glass state and
ferrimagnetic state, similar to the as prepared bulk sample. The room
temperature M\"{o}ssbauer spectra of the as milled sample, annealed at
300C for different durations (upto 575 hours), suggest that the observed
change in magnetic behaviour is strongly related with cations redistribution
between tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (O) sites in the spinel structure. Apart
from the cation redistribution, we suggest that the enhancement of
magnetization and ordering temperature is related with the reduction of B site
spin canting and increase of strain induced anisotropic energy during
mechanical milling.Comment: 14 pages LaTeX, 10 ps figure
BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally
satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM
Multiband tight-binding theory of disordered ABC semiconductor quantum dots: Application to the optical properties of alloyed CdZnSe nanocrystals
Zero-dimensional nanocrystals, as obtained by chemical synthesis, offer a
broad range of applications, as their spectrum and thus their excitation gap
can be tailored by variation of their size. Additionally, nanocrystals of the
type ABC can be realized by alloying of two pure compound semiconductor
materials AC and BC, which allows for a continuous tuning of their absorption
and emission spectrum with the concentration x. We use the single-particle
energies and wave functions calculated from a multiband sp^3 empirical
tight-binding model in combination with the configuration interaction scheme to
calculate the optical properties of CdZnSe nanocrystals with a spherical shape.
In contrast to common mean-field approaches like the virtual crystal
approximation (VCA), we treat the disorder on a microscopic level by taking
into account a finite number of realizations for each size and concentration.
We then compare the results for the optical properties with recent experimental
data and calculate the optical bowing coefficient for further sizes

Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Measurement of branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0(892) and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0(892) decays of neutral and charged D mesons
The branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0 and
Cabibbo-suppressed K*0 decays of D mesons are measured based on a data sample
of 33 pb-1 collected at and around the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with
the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. The branching fractions for the
decays D+(0) -> ~K*0(892)X and D0 -> K*0(892)X are determined to be BF(D0 ->
\~K*0X) = (8.7 +/- 4.0 +/- 1.2)%, BF(D+ -> ~K*0X) = (23.2 +/- 4.5 +/- 3.0)% and
BF(D0 -> K*0X) = (2.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)%. An upper limit on the branching
fraction at 90% C.L. for the decay D+ -> K*0(892)X is set to be BF(D+ -> K*0X)

The ARGO-YBJ Experiment Progresses and Future Extension
Gamma ray source detection above 30TeV is an encouraging approach for finding
galactic cosmic ray origins. All sky survey for gamma ray sources using wide
field of view detector is essential for population accumulation for various
types of sources above 100GeV. To target the goals, the ARGO-YBJ experiment has
been established. Significant progresses have been made in the experiment. A
large air shower detector array in an area of 1km2 is proposed to boost the
sensitivity. Hybrid detection with multi-techniques will allow a good
discrimination between different types of primary particles, including photons
and protons, thus enable an energy spectrum measurement for individual specie.
Fluorescence light detector array will extend the spectrum measurement above
100PeV where the second knee is located. An energy scale determined by balloon
experiments at 10TeV will be propagated to ultra high energy cosmic ray
experiments
