Reading Habits And Preferences Of Female Collegiate Students From Jalandhar Region: A Survey
Abstract –Read in order to know won’t be wrong if we talk about the importance of reading in a student’s life during his/her academic career and later. Reading makes one capable of being a lifelong learner through updating and expanding one’s existing knowledge. Unfortunately, Indian Education System do not comprise of special types of Reading programs for students to nurture the habits of reading since their very early age , like other developed countries. The present study aims to find out the reading habits of college going female students studying in different streams such as Humanities, Non-Med, Pure Sciences, Commerce, IT etc..To reach any conclusion a sample of 60 female students pursuing different streams of studies were asked to fill up a well planned questionnaire. The findings of this study comprise the student’s frequency of reading, preferences, language they like to read in, types of sources they like to read, selection criteria and lastly the factors affecting their reading habits
High functionality reversible arithmetic logic unit
Energy loss is a big challenge in digital logic design primarily due to impending end of Moore’s Law. Increase in power dissipation not only affects portability but also overall life span of a device. Many applications cannot afford this loss. Therefore, future computing will rely on reversible logic for implementation of power efficient and compact circuits. Arithmetic and logic unit (ALU) is a fundamental component of all processors and designing it with reversible logic is tedious. The various ALU designs using reversible logic gates exist in literature but operations performed by them are limited. The main aim of this paper is to propose a new design of reversible ALU and enhance number of operations in it. This paper critically analyzes proposed ALU with existing designs and demonstrates increase in functionality with 56% reduction in gates, 17 % reduction in garbage lines, 92 % reduction in ancillary lines and 53 % reduction in quantum cost. The proposed ALU design is coded in Verilog HDL, synthesized and simulated using EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tool-Xilinx ISE design suit 14.2. RCViewer+ tool has been used to validate quantum cost of proposed design

The most common way by which child expresses fear and anxiety is by crying at dental office. Proper knowledge and understanding are required to deliver effective dental treatment to a child by the application of various behavioral management techniques. Treating a crying child is one of the most demanding and tiring situations encountered in dentistry. Behavior management in a crying child is a continuum interaction with the child, directed toward communication and education in an endeavor, to allay anxiety and fear and to promote understanding of good oral health and the process by which it is achieved. Analysis of factors responsible for intrauterine fetal death in rural pregnant women at tertiary care centre of Northern India
Background: Intrauterine fetal death (IUFD) is a tragic event for both the parents and obstetrician. Objectives of current study were to study the underlying etiology of Intra Uterine Fetal Death (IUFD) that can be helpful in formulating the preventive measures.Methods: This study was conducted over a period of one year from April 2016 till March 2017 at a tertiary rural care hospital. All patients with diagnosed IUFD at >24 weeks of gestation were included in the study.Results: Total eighty patients were admitted with diagnosis of intrauterine fetal death. Among these majority 58 (72.5%) were multigravida and only 22 (27.5%) were primigravida. Maximum number of patients, 61 (72.5%) were between age group of 20-30 years. Maximum number of IUFD were reported between 36-40 weeks of gestation (36.25%). Most of fetal deaths were due to preventable conditions like hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (28.75%), severe anemia (15%), abruptio placenta (11.25%), and rupture uterus (10%). Out of these patients 68 (85%) delivered vaginally and 7 patients were delivered by LSCS.Conclusions: The present study emphasizes the role of health education, regular antenatal checkups, early detection of complications and hospital delivery to reduce the overall preventable IUFD
COLLECTION, IDENTIFICATION, MOLECULAR CHARACTERIZATION, AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF NON-GILLED MUSHROOMS COLLECTED FROM NORTH WESTERN HIMALAYAS
Objective: The objective of present research deals with collection, taxonomic, molecular taxonomy characterization, and antioxidant activity of wild non-gilled mushrooms sample collected from North Western Himalayas.Methods: The wild non-gilled mushroom samples were characterized for micro, morphological properties, and molecular identification. 1,1 diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide (NO2), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and free radical scavenging assay were used to evaluate the antioxidant properties of selected wild non-gilled mushrooms.Results: The obtained results revealed that on the basis of microscopic and morphological identification all the four non-gilled mushrooms samples were tentatively identified as 2/15 (Auricularia sp.1), 6/15 (Auricularia sp.2), 32/15 (Ganoderma sp.), and 132/15 (Trametes sp.). The colony, mycelial, and basidiospore morphology of fungal isolate were evidence of Basidiomycetes family. All these four non-gilled mushrooms were sequenced. Sequences were submitted to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), and their accession number was MF770159 (2/15), MF774107 (6/15), MF770158 (32/15), and MF770160 (132/15). The phylogenetic analysis of 18S ribosomal deoxyribonucleic acid (18S rDNA) sequence of four non-gilled mushrooms was compared with other species and identified as Auricularia polytricha, Ganoderma lucidum, Auricularia auricula-judae, and Trametes elegans. The four non-gilled mushrooms extract exhibited DPPH, NO2, and H2O2 free radical scavenging activities. G. lucidum methanolic extract has the highest effect on free radicals in comparison to hexane effect.Conclusion: All the isolated four non-gilled mushrooms showed good antioxidant potential, and it can be concluded that these mushrooms are not only consumed but also have a wide range of medicinal properties which must further explode for future use

Creating Community of Young Readers during Covid-19 Lockdown: A Comprehensive Study of a Digital Reading Platform: Storyweaver
Reading stories to children when they are young is the most effective way to keep them creatively engaged. Children in multilingual countries require free access to story repositories for leisure reading. In India, a country with hundreds of mother tongues, books are largely published in English and Hindi, owing to market economics. Various studies have shown that learning and reading become more important in one\u27s mother tongue and that when a child reads in two or more languages during early years, gains a deeper understanding of language and its effective use.
In this paper, the researchers have tried to discover; to what extent Storyweaver (SW) helps fill the gap between different types of reading requirements and the availability of resources in their native language? This paper explores the possibilities for more visibility for educators, parents, authors, publishers, illustrators, and translators to showcase their capabilities across the global platform especially in under-resourced areas. The paper will also explore if the educators can customize the resources of SW according to their individual requirements. This paper will try to determine whether SW can serve different leveled readers with appropriate resources. This paper will also explore the usage and popularity of this digital repository in context to literacy promotion and act as a savior for vanishing regional languages
Study the role of hepcidin in diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in young females of northern India
Background: Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional disorder. Maintenance of body iron status is an integral part of healthcare in young female of reproductive age group. Thereby early detection could lead to early intervention and reduce its comorbidity. Indeed, an ideal screening test should be capable of identifying iron deficiency long before developing anemia. Henceforth, the present study was aimed to determine utility of serum hepcidin in iron deficiency and to access the baseline value of hepcidin in young female.Methods: This sectional study was conducted in the Department of biochemistry SGT Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Budhera, Gurugram. It included non-pregnant female students of age 18-25 years with normal RBC indices and hemoglobin >12 gm%. Estimation of serum hepcidin-25 was by ELISA.Results: The reference range of hepcidin established in this study was 12.14-139.89 ng/ml for females with the mean being 42.4±29.13 ng/ml. It showed higher discriminating power in evaluating iron status in young healthy women (AUC 0.984) with best combination of diagnostic sensitivity (95.7%) and specificity (93.2%) at a cut off of >15.7 ng/ml. Serum hepcidin identified 17% of young healthy females with normal hemoglobin to have functional or storage iron deficiency.Conclusions: The prevention of iron deficiency anemia remains insufficient worldwide especially among underprivileged women and children Therefore, estimation of serum hepcidin may be considered as a valuable tool in assessing iron status in young healthy female population who are the prime target group for iron supplements to reduce comorbidity associated with iron deficiency and anemia
