Kaon B parameter from quenched Lattice QCD
We present results of a large-scale simulation for the Kaon B parameter
in quenched lattice QCD with the Kogut-Susskind quark action. Calculating
at 1% statistical accuracy for seven values of lattice spacing in the range
fm on lattices up to , we verify a
quadratic dependence of theoretically predicted. Strong indications
are found that, with our level of accuracy, terms
arising from our one-loop matching procedure have to be included in the
continuum extrapolation. We present (NDR, 2 GeV)=0.628(42) as our final

Heavy-Meson Observables at One-Loop in Partially Quenched Chiral Perturbation Theory
I present one-loop level calculations of the Isgur-Wise functions for B ->
D^{(*)} + e + nu, of the matrix elements of isovector twist-2 operators in B
and D mesons, and the matrix elements for the radiative decays D^* -> D + gamma
in partially quenched heavy quark chiral perturbation theory. Such expressions
are required in order to extrapolate from the light quark masses used in
lattice simulations of the foreseeable future to those of nature.Comment: 13 pages, 3 fig
Efficacy and acceptability of a pilot dietary intervention focusing on self-compassion, goal-setting and self-monitoring.
OBJECTIVE:Overweight and obesity are universal health challenges. Recent evidence emphasises the potential benefits of addressing psychological factors associated with obesity in dietary programmes. This pilot study investigated the efficacy and acceptability of a combined online and face-to-face dietary intervention that used self-compassion, goal-setting and self-monitoring to improve dietary behaviour, as well as psychological factors associated with dietary behaviour. DESIGN:Embedded mixed methods including a 4-week before-after trial and a one-on-one interview. Quantitative outcomes of the study were the levels of self-compassion; eating pathology; depression, anxiety and stress; and dietary intake. Qualitative outcomes were participants' perceptions about the acceptability of the intervention. SETTING:UNSW Kensington campus. PARTICIPANTS:Fourteen participants with overweight and obesity aged between 18 and 55 years old. RESULTS:Results showed that the intervention significantly improved self-compassion and some aspects of dietary intake (e.g. decrease in energy intake) at Week Four compared with Week Zero. Some aspects of eating pathology also significantly decreased (e.g. Eating Concern). However, changes in self-compassion over the 4 weeks did not significantly predict Week Four study outcomes, except for level of stress. Most participants found self-compassion, goal-setting and self-monitoring to be essential for dietary behaviour change. However, participants also indicated that an online programme needed to be efficient, simple and interactive. CONCLUSIONS:In conclusion, the current study provides preliminary but promising findings of an effective and acceptable combined online and face-to-face intervention that used self-compassion, goal-setting and self-monitoring to improve dietary habits. However, the results need to be examined in future long-term randomised controlled trials
Chiral Lagrangian Parameters for Scalar and Pseudoscalar Mesons
The results of a high-statistics study of scalar and pseudoscalar meson
propagators in quenched lattice QCD are presented. For two values of lattice
spacing, ( fm) and 5.9 ( fm), we
probe the light quark mass region using clover improved Wilson fermions with
the MQA pole-shifting ansatz to treat the exceptional configuration problem.
The quenched chiral loop parameters and are determined
from a study of the pseudoscalar hairpin correlator. From a global fit to the
meson correlators, estimates are obtained for the relevant chiral Lagrangian
parameters, including the Leutwyler parameters and . Using the
parameters obtained from the singlet and nonsinglet pseudoscalar correlators,
the quenched chiral loop effect in the nonsinglet scalar meson correlator is
studied. By removing this QCL effect from the lattice correlator, we obtain the
mass and decay constant of the ground state scalar, isovector meson .Comment: 36 pages, 12 figures, LaTe
Learning from the early adopters: developing the digital practitioner
This paper explores how Sharpe and Beetham’s Digital Literacies Framework which was derived to model students’ digital literacies, can be applied to lecturers’ digital literacy practices. Data from a small-scale phenomenological study of higher education lecturers who used Web 2.0 in their teaching and learning practices are used to examine if this pyramid model represents their motivations for adopting technology-enhanced learning in their pedagogic practices. The paper argues that whilst Sharpe and Beetham’s model has utility in many regards, these lecturers were mainly motivated by the desire to achieve their pedagogic goals rather than by a desire to become a digital practitioner
