Multiple Choriangiomas of Placenta
Placental chorangiomas, not an uncommon condition is often small and hence usually goes unnoticed . However the incidence of complications is high when the chorangioma is large. We hereby present an unusual case of large and multiple choriangiomas with secondary changes and associated congenital anomalies with hydrops fetalis
Isospectrality in Chaotic Billiards
We consider a modification of isospectral cavities whereby the classical
dynamics changes from pseudointegrable to chaotic. We construct an example
where we can prove that isospectrality is retained. We then demonstrate this
explicitly in microwave resonators.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figure
Inappropriate use of proton pump inhibitors in non-critical indoor patients in a tertiary care teaching hospital in Eastern India
Background: Proton pump inhibitors are one of the most commonly used drugs worldwide. Often they are used for inappropriate indications too, imposing economic burden to patients and governments. Many studies have showed equipotent efficacy of oral and intravenous proton pump inhibitor therapy. Despite that, most of the hospitalized patients receive intravenous proton pump inhibitor without appropriate indications. This study aimed to assess use of proton pump inhibitors in government hospital. Methods: It was an observational cross-sectional study done in the general medicine department of a tertiary care teaching hospital in Eastern India, including 800 noncritical patients. Objective was to assess the use of proton pump inhibitors (indications, route of administration, dosing frequency). Results: 100% patient received intravenous proton pump inhibitor irrespective of diagnosis. 80% of them received it twice daily and 18% received it once daily. Majority of the patients received intravenous proton pump inhibitor despite taking other drugs by oral route. Conclusions: Most of the PPI administration was done without appropriate indication. All patients received Intravenous proton pump inhibitors, which may impose economic burden on a government hospital. Majority of the patients received proton pump inhibitors twice daily. These approaches are not cost effective and need to be rectified
Examination of the Association between Insufficient Sleep and Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes by Race/Ethnicity
Background. We examined the association between insufficient rest/sleep and cardiovascular disease or diabetes mellitus separately among non-Hispanic whites, non-Hispanic blacks, Hispanic Americans, and other races in a contemporary sample of US adults. Methods. Multiethnic, nationally representative, cross-sectional survey (2008 BRFSS) participants who were >20 years of age (n = 369, 217; 50% women). Self-reported insufficient rest/sleep in the previous month was categorized into: zero, 1–13, 14–29, and all 30 days. Outcomes were: (1) any CVD, (2) coronary artery disease (CHD), (3) stroke, and (4) diabetes mellitus. Results. Insufficient rest/sleep was found to be positively associated with (1) any CVD, (2) CHD, and (3) stroke among all race-ethnicities. In contrast, insufficient rest/sleep was positively associated with diabetes mellitus in all race-ethnicities except non-Hispanic blacks. The odds ratio of diabetes association with insufficient rest/sleep for all 30 days was 1.37 (1.26–1.48) among non-Hispanic whites, 1.11 (0.90–1.36) among non-Hispanic blacks, 1.88 (1.46–2.42) among Hispanic Americans, and 1.48 (1.10–2.00) among other race/ethnicities. Conclusion. In a multiethnic sample of US adults, perceived insufficient rest/sleep was associated with CVD, among all race-ethnicities. However, the association between insufficient rest/sleep and diabetes mellitus was present among all race-ethnicities except non-Hispanic blacks

Quantized two terminal conductance, edge states and current patterns in an open geometry 2-dimensional Chern insulator
The quantization of the two terminal conductance in 2D topological systems is
justified by the Landauer-Buttiker (LB) theory that assumes perfect point
contacts between the leads and the sample. We examine this assumption in a
microscopic model of a Chern insulator connected to leads, using the
nonequilibrium Greens function formalism. We find that the currents are
localized both in the leads and in the insulator and enter and exit the
insulator only near the corners. The contact details do not matter and a
perfect point contact is emergent, thus justifying the LB theory. The quantized
two-terminal conductance shows interesting finite-size effects and dependence
on system-reservoir coupling.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure
Shodhan (Purification) of Visha Dravya: A Critical Review
Visha Dravya, often referred to as poisonous substances, has great value in Ayurveda mainly because of their therapeutic potential if processed properly. The plants which possess various classes of phytochemicals are still found either in their crude forms or after proper processing. Thus, to popularize and introduce their use for medicine, such plant drugs need to be detoxified or purified before use. The process of detoxification or purification of any toxic material used for medicinal purposes is known as "Shodhana". Shodhan, the process of purification, will reduce the toxicity but retain its medicinal properties. This review discusses various classical and contemporary methods employed during Shodhan, Samskara (processing), Bhavana (levigation), and Marana (incineration). It elucidates the scientific rationale behind each step in purification and outlines their pharmacological studies and clinical trials where possible. Additionally, challenges and future perspectives in standardizing Shodhan procedures are addressed to make it reproducible and safe in clinical practice. Overall, this review provides insight into traditional wisdom and modern scientific advancements in the purification of research-oriented Ayurvedists, as well as associated professionals
Intrusion detection and prevention system for an IoT environment
Internet of Things (IoT) security is the act of securing IoT devices and networks. IoT devices, including industrial machines, smart energy grids, and building automation, are extremely vulnerable. With the goal of shielding network systems from illegal access in cloud servers and IoT systems, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) and Network-based Intrusion Prevention Systems (NBIPSs) are proposed in this study. An intrusion prevention system is proposed to realize NBIPS to safeguard top to bottom engineering. The proposed NBIPS inspects network activity streams to identify and counteract misuse instances. The NBIPS is usually located specifically behind a firewall, and it provides a reciprocal layer of investigation that adversely chooses unsafe substances. Network-based IPS sensors can be installed either in an inline or a passive model. An inline sensor is installed to monitor the traffic passing through it. The sensors are installed to stop attacks by blocking the traffic using an IoT signature-based protocol
Stepping into the Metaverse and Unlocking the Power of Interactivity: Examining the Impact of Metaverse Platform Attributes on User Engagement
In this research, we examine user engagement with the metaverse platform using the stimulus-organism-response theory. We used a mixed-methods approach that involved a qualitative study and a quantitative study to answer several research questions. We found that immersiveness, personalization, and homophily are associated with user engagement in the metaverse. We also found that parasocial interaction meditates the relationships from control, immersiveness, personalization, and homophily to user engagement in the metaverse. Self-platform connection plays a crucial moderating role in the mediating effect of parasocial interaction for immersiveness and homophily. This research contributes to the existing literature on metaverse interactivity and user engagement while offering valuable insights into consumer behavior in virtual environments. This study can help organizations enhance their metaverse platforms to increase user engagement in the metaverse
A -adic analogue of Borel's theorem
We prove that Shimura varieties of abelian type satisfy a -adic
Borel-extension property over discretely valued fields. More precisely, let
denote the rigid-analytic closed unit disc and
, let be a smooth
rigid-analytic variety, and let denote a
Shimura variety of abelian type with torsion-free level structure. We prove
every rigid-analytic map defined over a discretely valued -adic field
extends to an analytic map
, where
is the Baily-Borel
compactification of . We also deduce various
applications to algebraicity of analytic maps, degenerations of families of
abeloids, and to -adic notions of hyperbolicity. Along the way, we also
prove an extension result for Rapoport-Zink spaces
