Anti-Hyperon polarization in high energy pp collisions with polarized beams

    Get PDF
We study the longitudinal polarization of the Sigma_bar and Xi_bar anti-hyperons in polarized high energy pp collisions at large transverse momenta, extending a recent study for the Lambda_bar anti-hyperon. We make predictions by using different parametrizations of the polarized parton densities and models for the polarized fragmentation functions. Similar to the Lambda_bar polarization, the Xi_bar0 and Xi_bar+ polarizations are found to be sensitive to the polarized anti-strange sea in the nucleon. The Sigma_bar- and Sigma_bar+ polarizations show sensitivity to the light sea quark polarizations, \Delta \bar u(x) and \Delta \bar d(x), and their asymmetry.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, version to appear in PR

Analysis of vibration and acoustic signals for noncontact measurement of engine rotation speed

    Get PDF
The non-contact measurement of engine speed can be realized by analyzing engine vibration frequency. However, the vibration signal is distorted by harmonics and noise in the measurement. This paper presents a novel method for the measurement of engine rotation speed by using the cross-correlation of vibration and acoustic signals. This method can enhance the same frequency components in engine vibration and acoustic signal. After cross-correlation processing, the energy centrobaric correction method is applied to estimate the accurate frequency of the engine's vibration. This method can be implemented with a low-cost embedded system estimating the cross-correlation. Test results showed that this method outperformed the traditional vibration-based measurement method.Web of Science203art. no. 68

Does Informal Finance Help Formal Finance? Evidence from Third Party Loan Guarantees in China

    Get PDF
Building on the important study by Allen, Qian and Qian (2005) and Ayyagari, Demirgüc-Kunt and Maksimovic (2010), we examine whether third party guarantors play an effective role in assessing loan risk. Using a proprietary database of third party loan guarantees in China, we find strong evidence that guarantors and banks disagree on pricing loan risk, and that banks can better predict loan defaults than guarantors. We also find that the probability of loan default is affected by the capability of guarantor officers. Our findings question the contribution of soft information in the improvement of credit scoring and support the view that informal finance should be limited. This paper also supports the implications of studies on human capital in financial intermediation.published_or_final_versio

W±HW^{\pm}H^{\mp} associated production at LHC in the general 2HDM with Spontaneous CP Violation

Spontaneous CP violation motivates the introduction of two Higgs doublets in the electroweak theory. Such a simple extension of the standard model has three neutral Higgs bosons and a pair charged Higgs, especially it leads to rich CP-violating sources including the induced Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase, the mixing of the neutral Higgs bosons due to the CP-odd Higgs and the effective complex Yukawa couplings of the charged and neutral Higgs bosons. Within this model, we present the production of a charged Higgs boson in association with a W boson at the LHC, and calculate in detail the cross section and the transverse momentum distribution of the associated W boson.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures, omitted 3 figures, motivations for Type III 2HDM with SCPV is emphasized, to be published in PR

Hearth: A Game Supporting Non-Intrusive and Concurrent Tracking of Player Emotion and Mouse Usage

    Get PDF
Empirical evidence has supported the idea that eSports players\u27 emotions could be reflected in their mouse usage. Still, findings from IS literature on the exact relationships between users\u27 mouse usage patterns and their emotional states have been mixed. Possible causes include adjustment effects and offsetting effects. To address these problems, this study proposes a self-developed game named Hearth, which supports non-intrusive and concurrent tracking of players\u27 emotions and mouse usage. The game design supports the examination of the two possible effects. Results show that negative emotion was positively associated with the total mouse movement distance in a game turn, average task-level distance, and average task-level speed. Moreover, the open-source game proposed in this study facilitates further data collection from natural experiments due to its triadic design that addresses reality, meaning, and play

Analysis on epidemiologic feature of dry eye in ophthalmologic pediatric outpatients

AIM: To study the incidence of dry eye among clinic pediatric patients, and to analyze the correlation between pediatric dry eye and age, video display terminals(VDT)and conjunctivitis.<p>METHODS: There were 128 cases of ophthalmology pediatric outpatients(7-13 years)enrolled in this study in an order-statistic manner. Modified ocular surface disease index(OSDI)questionnaire and the tear film breakup time(BUT)were used to evaluate the prevalence of dry eye and severity.<p>RESULTS: The overall prevalence of dry eye in this study was 19.5%, of which 64 cases(15.6%)of children belongs to 7-10 years old group; another 64 cases(23.4%)of children belongs to 11-13 years old group. OSDI averaged 2.15±0.83 in 11-13 years old group, which was higher than that of 7-10 years old group(1.55±0.61). The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.05). In contrast, BUT averaged 10.05±2.97s in 11-13 years old group, which was shorter than that of 7-10 years old group(12.05±3.25s). The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.05). Those children who used visual display terminals over 2h every day had dry eye prevalence higher than that of the control group(43.3% <i>vs</i> 12.2%). Similarly, those who suffered from conjunctivitis during the recently three months had dry eye prevalence higher than that of the control group(26.3% <i>vs</i> 8.3%). The differences of OSDI and BUT between groups of each case were statistically significant(<i>P</i><0.05). <p>CONCLUSION: A considerable number of pediatric patients suffered from dry eye. Growing age, excessive use of visual display terminals and conjunctivitis are important risk factors

Incentive Decision on Safety Investment of Supply Chain of Agricultural Products in “Agricultural Super-Docking”

    Get PDF
Since the “agriculture super-docking” mode was introduced in China in 2007, remarkable success has been made in reducing the transaction cost and improving the quality safety of agricultural products. However, the quality safety issues of agricultural products still occur frequently because both specialized farmers’ cooperatives and supermarkets have insufficient safety investment. In order to study the necessity, goal, and incentive decision schemes of safety investment in “agriculture super-docking” supply chain, three kinds of models, which include noncooperatives distributed decision-making model, centralized decision-making model, and incentive coordination models led by cooperatives and supermarkets, are, respectively, set up in this paper. Conclusions are drawn as follows: when making the uncooperative decentralized decision, both cooperatives and supermarkets have the moral risks to decrease the safety investment, but appropriate measures can achieve the coordination of the supply chain; when achieving the coordination of supply chain, the two contacts under the guidance of cooperatives and supermarkets are the same, and the schemes of distributing profits are also the same. Moreover, a practical case is given to improve the effectiveness and feasibility of the incentive decision schemes

    Phoebe's orbit from ground-based and space-based observations

    Get PDF
The ephemeris of Phoebe, the ninth satellite of Saturn, is not very accurate. Previous dynamical models were usually too simplified, the astrometry is heterogeneous and, the Saturn's ephemeris itself is an additionnal source of error. The aim is to improve Phoebe's ephemeris by using a large set of observations, correcting some systematic errors and updating the dynamical model. The dynamical model makes use of the most recent ephemeris of planets and Saturnian satellites. The astrometry of Phoebe is improved by using a compilation of ground-based and space-based observations and by correcting the bias in stellar catalogues used for the reduction. We present an accurate ephemeris of Phoebe with residuals of 0.45 arcsec and with an estimated accuracy of Phoebe's position of less that 100 km on 1990-2020 period.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, accepted by A&
