    A scientometric investigation of the publication trends of Iranian medical informatics articles based on ISI Citation Databases

    This study analyzed the qualitative and quantitative developments of medical informatics articles in Iran from 1987 to 2009, based on ISI Citation databases. The first phase of the analysis included date of publication, type of document, language of the article, source of publication, subject areas, and the countries involved in developing the articles. Citation indicators formed the second phase of investigation in this study. In the third phase, the citing articles were analyzed in terms of their date of publication, type of document, language, subject area, citation sources and the country where the citation had taken place. The publications, with some fluctuations, followed a rising trend until 2007, but after this date there was some decline in publishing such articles. Among 62 documented articles investigated, 58 were published in journals, and the remaining four were presented in conferences. The language of all 62 articles was English. Britain had the greatest contribution, i.e. 13 (21%) documents, in publishing such articles. Regarding their subject area, most of the articles, i.e. 28 (45%) documents, dealt with “health care sciences and health services”. As for their source of publication, 7 (11.29%) articles had been published in the Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing Journal. The greatest number of citations belonged to 2005 while the greatest number  of H-Index and citation average per year  belonged to 2007. There were a total of 196 citations to 62 articles, out of 186 articles. 20% of all citing articles embarked uopn self-citation. The overall average for referencing to each article was 3.16 and the H-Index of all Iranian medical informatics articles was 7. Most of the citing articles belonged to more recent years.  The language of most citing articles was English. Most of the references to the articles first belonged to scholars from the United States, i.e. 41 (22%) times, and then to those from Iran, i.e. 40 (21.5%) times. The greatest number of citing articles (12 articles or 6.45%) were published in the journal of Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing. Generally speaking, the year 2007 seemed to mark a turning point in publishing the greatest number of medical infortmatics articles from Iran. The articles published this year showed some improvement in quality as well

    Social Networks: Libraries During Covid-19 Pandemic

    Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how libraries provide services to their users. Social networks became one of the most important ways libraries could communicate with users during that time. This study aims to review articles that have addressed the roles, services, and challenges of libraries in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic on social networks. Methods: This study is a narrative review. The study population includes English-language articles indexed in reputable databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and articles retrieved through Google Scholar published in reputable journals. Results: Libraries have played various roles on social networks during the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite the challenges they faced, they shared their services on these networks with users. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has facilitated libraries’ acceptance and use of social networks and has led to the emergence of roles, speed in providing online services, and facing challenges. Familiarity with the different roles of libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic on social networks and utilizing the potential of these networks can provide useful information for policymakers to make informed decisions regarding the use of social networks, which can help make clearer decisions in the future when facing other pandemics and take measures to combat them

    The Highly Cited Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Articles of Cardiac And Cardiovascular Systems: A Scientometric Study Based on Web of Science

    Introduction: Systematic reviews and meta-analyses have been placed at the summit of the evidence pyramid in the evidence-based medicine paradigm. Scientometric investigation can provide useful insight into the field's scholarly communications. Therefore, this study is an attempt to scientometric study of the highly cited systematic reviews and meta-analysis articles of cardiac and cardiovascular systems category based on Web of Science. Methods: The study focused on those highly cited articles that were retrieved from Web of Science between July 20th and July 27th, 2019. After multiple phases of screening the retrieved articles, 150 articles formed the current research population. A number of articles in systematic review and meta-analysis, the publication trend, the status of authors' countries, authors’ affiliation, and the publication sources of the articles were examined. Results: Meta-analysis articles account for 52% of the research population. The largest share of the highly cited papers were for 2018. The results showed 61.3% of the studies conducted by international cooperation. The largest number of the studies have been conducted by researchers of USA, England, Netherland and Canada. The largest number of the articles published in American College of Cardiology, and European Heart Journal. The majority of the highly cited articles (79.33%) published in Q1 journals. Conclusion: The publication of the highly cited articles has benefited greatly from international collaboration. Researchers from of the United States, the Netherlands, England and Canada significantly contributed to the articles' production. The highly cited papers have been published in the most prestigious journals

    ResearchGate Social Network: Opportunities and Challenges

    Introduction: ResearchGate, as one of the academic-social networks, has become a platform for scientific cooperation to promote scientific skills. A large number of researchers engage in scientific activities and share research results. This paper aims to study the ResearchGate related researches and examines its opportunities and challenges for the academic communities. Methods: The present research is a narrative-review. The study population includes English-language articles indexed in reputable databases such as Scopus and Web of Science and articles retrieved through Google Scholar published in reputable journals. Results: Activity in ResearchGate enhances citation indexes more than ever. According to some studies and due to the importance of citation in universities' ranking, the use of the ResearchGate professional network can lead to improving the ranking of universities in international ranking systems. However, according to former studies, there are drawbacks to this network, and it is necessary for the scientific communities to use the benefits of this network consciously. Conclusion: Familiarity with the opportunities and challenges of applying ResearchGate can provide relevant information to authorities to make informed decisions about using this social network in academic communities

    Investigating the Knowledge Management Infrastructures of SBMU-Affiliated Libraries

    Introduction: Increasing productivity in academic libraries can be due to knowledge management. The successful implementation of knowledge management requires appropriate infrastructures. In this study, to determine the level of readiness of SBMU-affiliated libraries and to implement knowledge management, the infrastructure of the management approach, organizational culture, human resources, organizational structure, and information technology has been examined.   Methods: The descriptive-survey research method was used to determine the status of the infrastructures studied to obtain the opinions of 58 librarians working in the libraries of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire. The opinions of 10 experts obtained to analyze the qualitative validity. Content validity‏ ratio (CVR) was calculated to analyze the quantitative content validity, content validity index (CVI), and the validity of each item, which was considered 62% and 79%, respectively. Cronbach's alpha was also used to measure reliability, which was 0.92, indicating that reliability is appropriate. A 5-point Likert scale was used to weigh a 50- item questionnaire.   Results: The mean obtained for the infrastructures of the management approach was 2.72, organizational structure 2.66, organizational culture 3.13, human resources 3.26, and technology 3.21, respectively.   Conclusion: The status of the two infrastructures of management approach and organizational structure was undesirable, and the three infrastructures of organizational culture, human resources, and technology were at a moderate level. Consequently, these infrastructures need investment and exceptional attention to provide a suitable platform for the implementation of knowledge management in the SBMU-affiliated libraries

    Investigating intra-disciplinary and extra-disciplinary relationships of Iran’s rehabilitation articles indexed in the Web of Science during 2013-2017

    Background and purpose Establishing Intra-disciplinary and extra-disciplinary relationships are a prerequisite for the growth and expansion of various scientific disciplines, including rehabilitation science. In this study, we have tried to examine the intra-disciplinary and extra-disciplinary relationships of scientific articles in the field of rehabilitation sciences of Iran, indexed in the Web of Science (WOS) database from 2013 to 2017. Materials and methods This research was conducted using scientometric techniques, content analysis and citation analysis through a descriptive approach. The statistical population of the research included 392 articles of Iran consisting of original articles and conference articles indexed in the Web of Science, which were published during 2013-2017. Results Most of the 392 articles were specialized physiotherapy (53.57%) and then orthotics and prosthetics (27.55%). Out of 12076 references of the articles, 26.9% were located in the extra-disciplinary category and 89.6% in the intra-disciplinary category. 392 articles researched received 1398 citations, with an average citation of 3.75 per article. In all fields except rehabilitation management, the highest number of citations was categorized in the extra-disciplinary category. Conclusion The publication trend of the articles was growing. Researchers in the study of sub-disciplines of rehabilitation sciences in Iran have used intra-disciplinary relationships more than extra-disciplinary relationships in compiling articles, while they have received the most citations outside the field of rehabilitation sciences relationships. The results show the appropriate potential of this area to interact with other scientific fields

    Investigating Web impact factors of type 1, type 2 and type 3 medical universities in Iran

    Investigation of the web impact factor and analysis of the web links belong to webometric studies. A high impact factor, accompanied by more frequent links to a particular website, can indicate greater influence and better accessibility of that particular site. In this regard, bearing in mind the significance of medical universities' web sites for education and research, the current study compared and analyzed their impact factors, their web links and web pages, using AltaVista search engine. The investigation included different ranks of medical universities, commonly referred to as type 1, type 2 and type 3 universities in Iran. The median was used as a measure of central tendency of the scores. The search engines of AltaVista were adopted on 26 February 2010 to collect the data. According to the results, in terms of indexed pages, Shahid Baheshti of type 1, Guilan of type 2, and Shahrekord of type 3 universities had the best records. Regarding web links, medical universities of Iran, Kermanshah and Lorestan, from type 1, type 2 and type 3 universities had the best records and, in terms of impact factor, universities of Ahvaz (type 1), Zahedan (type 2), and Fessa (type 3) manifested the greatest influence. As the results imply, the universities are expected to pay more attention to webometric issues; they are also recommended to allocate more budget to enhance their web pages

    A scientometric study of media literacy literature based on Scopus record through 2011

    The present research is an attempt to describe the quantity and quality of publication trends of media literacy based on Scopus reports. The population under study was composed of 510 documents on media literacy published through 2011. The results were analyzed based on date of publication, type of document, language of the documents, source of publications, subject areas, authors and their affiliations, and the countries involved in developing the articles. Citation indicators formed the second phase of investigation in the present study. With a negligible amount of fluctuation, the number of publications on media literacy has increased steadily over the years, with the greatest number occurring in 2011.  The analysis of data based on document types indicated that, of the 510 documents, 330 were articles (64.70%), 85 were reviews (16.66%), and 64 were conference papers (12.54%). 446 documents (84.45%) were published in English and the rest presented in other languages. The United States with 190 documents (37.25%), the United Kingdom with 43 documents (8.43%), and Australia with 14 documents (2.74%) were the most represented countries, with the most prolific authors known as Austin, Hobbs, and Cheung. Thematically, the greatest number of documents were produced in Social Sciences with 360 documents (70.57%), followed by Medicine with 92 documents (18.03%). The largest number of documents has been published in Comunicar followed by American Behavioral Scientist, and Simile.  The most cited articles from 1996 up to 2011 included 22 documents on the H-index zone. Analysis of the results of H-index zone by subject categories indicated that most documents on h-index zone belonged to social sciences and Medicine areas. Psychology had the most influence on media literacy, as was shown by the ratio of most cited documents to total number of documents on media literacy in any of the subject categories. The results highlight the multidisciplinary nature of media literacy. As for the H-index zone, 16 documents (73.91%) belonged to the United States. Overall, the United States, with 190 (37.25%) publications (out of a total of 510), had an important role in enhancing the quantity and quality of the media literacy literatur

    Is it necessary to pay attention to levels of evidence? : Comparative study in Nursing publications indexed in Scopous based on AACCN levels of evidence

    Examining the evidence-based level of scientific productions is a qualitative evaluation. This study aims to examine the evidence levels of nursing scientific production of in Iran, Malaysia and Turkey and their citation in SCOPUS during 2011 to 2015. The evidence level of the products was determined using the table suggested by American Association of Critical Care Nursing-Levels of Evidence, and their citation rates in the highest level of evidence were determined using the reports of SCOPUS citation database. Based on the results, the most scientific products are related to Turkey, Iran and Malaysia, respectively. In Iran, from 1360 articles, 1193 articles are evidence- based. In Turkey, there are 1449 evidence-based articles from 1730. In Malaysia, out of 790 articles, 523 are evidence-based. Investigating of evidence levels showed that the level of scientific product of Iranian evidence-based nursing is higher than Malaysia and Turkey.C itation rate to Malaysian evidence level A is more than two other countries, and Iran and Turkey, respectively, are placed after Malaysia. So Evidence-based tendency process is growing in three countries but very slowly. In line with the moving towards the evidence-based levels, there should be regular, planned and comprehensive trainings on evidence-based performance
