2. Introduction: Philosophy and Geography

This number of the Journal of Interdisciplinary History of Ideas hosts a special and thematic issue focused on the relation between philosophy and geography. It is the result of a call for papers that was launched in 2016 with the aim of answering at least some of the relevant questions concerning the historical connections between philosophy and geography, while also exploring the possible theoretical intersections between them to which this history points. Kritinės pastabos apie Schmitto politinį realizmą

According to a widely accepted line of interpretation, Carl Schmitt’s political philosophy is a classic example of political realism. In this article I propose, starting with an analysis of some themes from the essay published in 1923 Die geistesgeschichtliche Lage des heutigen Parlamentarismus, to challenge this interpretation. An in-depth analysis of Schmitt’s critique of parliamentarism and identitarian democracy may, in fact, suggest that his proposal is a normative theory of political enmity.Remiantis plačiai pripažįstama interpretacija, Carlo Schmitto politinė filosofija laikoma klasikiniu politinio realizmo pavyzdžiu. Šiame straipsnyje, pradėdamas nuo kai kurių temų, išdėstytų 1923 m. publikuotoje jo esė Die geistesgeschichtliche Lage des heutigen Parlamentarismus, siūlau užklausti šią interpretaciją. Democrazia sive dittatura. Rousseau e il giovane Carl Schmitt (1917-1923)

The present essay explores Carl Schmitt’s interpretation of Rousseau’s Contrat social in his early works. The essay aims at investigating the role of concepts such as dictatorship, democracy, ge- neral will and homogeneity of the people in Carl Schmitt’s political theory. In particular, the essay will be focused on three texts: Diktatur und Belagerungszustand (1916), Die Diktatur (1921) and Die geistesgeschichtliche Lage des heutigen Parlamentarismus (1923), where Rous- seau’s theory is vigorously discussed by Schmitt, although in a partial and sometimes ideological way. In the end of the paper, some critical remarks on Schmitt’s interpretation and his proble- matic theory of “identitarian” democracy are provided
