Public Opinions on Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation: A Survey Analysis
This research attempts to provide an in-depth analysis of the public perceptions of inter-Korean economic cooperation. KDI survey data with a sample size of 1,000 were subjected to empirical analyses. By means of ordered logit estimations, we derive the following results. First, there is a significant effect of age on economic cooperation perceptions, where younger generations tend to be more negative. Second, the group who has positive view on the economic cooperation tends to prefer large-scale, domestic-entity-funded cooperation projects, whereas the group who has negative view tends to prefer small-scale projects and projects funded by international organizations. According to these results, prioritizing trade with the involvement of international organizations is likely to be an effective measure to alleviate potential political constraints and to achieve sustainable long-run economic cooperation systems when pursuing the economic cooperation
Flow-Induced Voltage Generation Over Monolayer Graphene in the Presence of Herringbone Grooves
While flow-induced voltage over a graphene layer has been reported, its origin remains unclear. In our previous study, we suggested different mechanisms for different experimental configurations: phonon dragging effect for the parallel alignment and an enhanced out-of-plane phonon mode for the perpendicular alignment (Appl. Phys. Lett. 102:063116, 2011). In order to further examine the origin of flow-induced voltage, we introduced a transverse flow component by integrating staggered herringbone grooves in the microchannel. We found that the flow-induced voltage decreased significantly in the presence of herringbone grooves in both parallel and perpendicular alignments. These results support our previous interpretation
VR/AR head-mounted display system based measurement and evaluation of dynamic visual acuity
This study evaluated the dynamic visual acuity of candidates by implementing a King–Devick (K-D) test chart in a virtual reality head-mounted display (VR HMD) and an augmented reality head-mounted display (AR HMD). Hard-copy KD (HCKD), VR HMD KD (VHKD), and AR HMD KD (AHKD) tests were conducted in 30 male and female candidates in the age of 10S and 20S and subjective symptom surveys were conducted.
In the subjective symptom surveys, all except one of the VHKD questionnaire items showed subjective symptoms of less than 1 point. In the comparison between HCKD and VHKD, HCKD was measured more rapidly than VHKD in all tests. In the comparison between HCKD and AHKD, HCKD was measured more rapidly than AHKD in Tests 1, 2, and 3. In the comparison between VHKD and AHKD, AHKD was measured more rapidly than VHKD in Tests 1, 2, and 3. In the correlation analyses of test platforms, all platforms were correlated with each other, except for the correlation between HCKD and VHKD in Tests 1 and 2. There was no significant difference in the frequency of errors among Tests 1, 2, and 3 across test platforms.
VHKD and AHKD, which require the body to be moved to read the chart, required longer measurement time than HCKD. In the measurements of each platform, AHKD was measured closer to HCKD than VHKD, which may be because the AHKD environment is closer to the actual environment than the VHKD environment. The effectiveness of VHKD and AHKD proposed in this research was evaluated experimentally. The results suggest that treatment and training could be performed concurrently through the use of clinical test and content development of VHKD and AHKD
NMR and Relaxation in Superconductor
NMR and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (NSLR) are reported at
7.2 Tesla and 1.4 Tesla in powder samples of the intermetallic compound
with superconducting transition temperature in zero field = 39.2 K. From
the first order quadrupole perturbed NMR specrum a quadrupole coupling
frequency of 835 5 kHz is obtained. The Knight shift is very small and it
decreases to zero in the superconducting phase. The NSLR follows a linear law
with = 165 10 (sec K) . The results in the normal phase indicate a
negligible -character of the wave function of the conduction electrons at
the Fermi level. Below the NSLR is strongly field dependent indicating
the presence of an important contribution related to the density and the
thermal motion of flux lines. No coherence peak is observed at the lower field
investigated (1.4 T)
Batalin-Tyutin Quantization of the Chiral Schwinger Model
We quantize the chiral Schwinger Model by using the Batalin-Tyutin formalism.
We show that one can systematically construct the first class constraints and
the desired involutive Hamiltonian, which naturally generates all secondary
constraints. For , this Hamiltonian gives the gauge invariant Lagrangian
including the well-known Wess-Zumino terms, while for the corresponding
Lagrangian has the additional new type of the Wess-Zumino terms, which are
irrelevant to the gauge symmetry.Comment: 15 pages, latex, no figures, to be published in Z. Phys. C (1995
NOVEL TWO-INTERCONNECTED FLUIDIZED BED SYSTEM FOR SELECTIVE SOLID CIRCULATION
A novel two-interconnected fluidized bed system was developed to separate fine and coarse particles by means of particle size difference. Coarse (212~300 ÎĽm) and fine (63~106 ÎĽm) particles were separated perfectly using the solid separator. The effects of the fluidizing velocity, solid injection velocity, diameter of solid injection nozzle, and solid height on the solid separation rate were investigated. Moreover, continuous solid separation and circulation test up to 20 hours was performed to check feasibility of stable operation
IL-1α Stimulation Restores Epidermal Permeability and Antimicrobial Barriers Compromised by Topical Tacrolimus
In a previous study, we showed that barrier recovery was delayed after acute barrier disruption in the skin treated with topical calcineurin inhibitors. Tacrolimus decreases lipid synthesis and the expressions of antimicrobial peptide (AMP) and IL-1α in the epidermis. IL-1α is an important cytokine for improving barrier function, lamellar body (LB) production, and lipid synthesis in keratinocytes (KCs). We aimed to evaluate whether IL-1α stimulation could restore the barrier dysfunction observed in tacrolimus-treated skin. Topical imiquimod, an IL-1α inducer, restored the epidermal permeability barrier recovery that had been inhibited by tacrolimus treatment in human (n=15) and murine (n=10) skins, and improved stratum corneum integrity by restoring corneodosmosomes in murine skin (n=6). Imiquimod co-applied on the epidermis resulted in an increase in the production of LB and three major lipid synthesis-related enzymes, and in the expressions of mBD3, CRAMP, and IL-1α (n=5). Furthermore, intracutaneous injection of IL-1α restored permeability barrier recovery (n=6). In IL-1 type 1 receptor knockout mice, topical imiquimod was unable to restore permeability barrier recovery after tacrolimus treatment (n=21). In conclusion, IL-1α stimulation induced positive effects on epidermal permeability and antimicrobial barrier functions in tacrolimus-treated skin. These positive effects were mediated by an increase in epidermal lipid synthesis, LB production, and AMP expression.JID JOURNAL CLUB ARTICLE: For questions, answers, and open discussion about this article, please go to http://www.nature.com/jid/journalclu
