The experiments were carried out in 2x2 factorial arrangement in a 4x4 Latin Square design. In the first experiment, which were carried out in 2002, sprinkler+fan (SF) and protected fat inclusion in the diet (PF, 2.54% on DM basis) were tested. In the second experiment, which were carried out in 2002, SF and fish meal inclusion (FM, 3.67% on DM basis) in the diet were tested. In the third experiment, which were carried out 2003, effects of soya bean oil (SBO, 3.81% on DM basis) and fish meal (FM, 3.67% on DM basis) inclusion in the diet were tested. In the experiment 1 and 2, the cows received mild heat stress for 9 h and moderate heat stres for 7 h. SF decreased (P<0.05) rectal and skin temperature and respiration rate. SF improved milk yield for 1.22 kg in the first trial (P=0.17) and 2.21 kg in the second trial. PF increased FCM and fat yield (P<0.05) and tended to increase milk yield (P=0.15) and fat content (P=0.07). FM had no effect on milk yield but tended to increase milk protein content and totol N (P=0.12). The cows in the trial 3 received mild heat stress for 14 h and moderate heat stress 10 h. SBO increased rectal temperature, respiration and heart rates 0.14°C, 8.94 number/second and 2.13 number/second, respectivelly. Additionally, SBO increased milk yield (P<0.01) for 1.04 kg but decreased milk fat content (P<0.05) for %18.27. Milk yield was not affected by FM, but BW gain was increased by FM (P=0.09). It could be concluded that applying management practices e.g. sprinkler+fan could minimize negative influences of heat stress more effective than nutritional manipulation. The results also suggested that fat inclusion could be more beneficial than rumen undegradable protein (fish meal) inclusion in the diet under heat stress. Recent Advances in Ruminant Nutrition
One of the most industrialized animal production branches of ruminant production successfully requires a blending of theoretical knowledge of nutritional principles with practical stockmanship, maintaining health and dealing with numbers. It is well known that high yielding, dairy cows, require balanced diet with adequate nutrients for yielding. This is not provided with only a few feedstuffs. Milk production in dairy cows is related to the improvements in genetic merit of farm animals and also developments in feed science, feed technology and animal nutrition. In particular, feeds and feed technology studies associated with sustainability, economical perspectives and product quality in the last decade have been in advance. In the present work, recent advances in feed sources and feed technology, minerals (macro and trace minerals ), vitamins and amino acids, feed additives (antibiotics alternative growth stimulants, rumen modulator, organic acids, antioxidants, enzymes, plant extracts), nutrition-products (meat-milk-progeny) quality and functional food production (milk, meat) nutrition-reproduction, nutrition-animal health, nutrition-environmental temperature, nutrition-global warming were evaluated
Effect of Anionic Salt Supplementation on Metabolic Profile, Peripartum Diseases and Pregnancy Rate of Dairy Cows During the Prepartum Period
The aim of the present work was to examine the effects of anionic salts (MgCl2 or MgSO4) supplementation on metabolic profile, peripartum diseases and pregnancy rate of dairy cows during the prepartum period. Fourty five Holstein dairy cows were placed on 1 of 3 prepartum treatments. Treatment groups were balanced body condition score as far as similar. Treatments were total mixed ration (TMR) without anionic salt (control), TMR supplemented with 30 g/d/cow MgCl2 or TMR supplemented with 30 g/d/cow MgSO4 . After parturation, all groups were fed with same TMR. The presynch-ovsynch protocol was used and fixed time artificial insemination was done after 30 days postpartum. The experiment was lasted for 8 weeks of postpartum. Cows fed MgCl2 supplemented TMR increased milk yield compared with control and MgSO4 supplemented TMR. Supplementing anionic salts reduced serum AST and ALT concentrations, increased serum glucose, HDL, IgG, Ca and Mg concentrations. Health and reproductive performance were not different between treatments. These data suggets that anionic salts supplementation in TMR during prepartum can alter milk yield and blood biochemical parameters
Farklı Büyütme Koşullarında Tutulan Siyah Alaca Düvelerin İlk Laktasyon Süt Verimi ve Döl Verim Özellikleri
In dairy cattle, the success of the heifer rearing is to have great importance in terms of return of investment.
Heifers for breeding purpose are to ensure that profitability has given birth to her first calf at age of 22-24 months.
However, for this purpose controlled conditions and some special requirements must be provided. Many literature
reported that the different growth pattern for optimal heifer raising performances. But it must be quite technical
critical threshold value for the get optimum performances in the future. The ideal value of the first calving of
Holstein heifer is to 22-24 months of age. But in the practical result did not show these ideal. Many study results
showed big variation from 18 months to 36 months of age. This high first calving age affected the animal future
performances. Dairy farms must be considering the critical threshold value for the optimum heifer raising program.
For this purpose 2010-2013 year are born between 118 head heifer were monitored and recorded during the 3 year
study and status from birth to first lactation were evaluated depending on the growth performances. In this study
the results of 118 heifer lactations and reproductive performances werw determined.Süt sığırcılığında düve yetiştirme yatırım maliyetlerinin geri dönüşümü açısından çok önemlidir.
Effects of Wholesaler and Consumer Conditions on Egg Quality Parameters in Different Seasons
Mevcut çalışmada, iki farklı mevsim (yaz-kış) ve iki farklı saklama koşulunun yumurta kalite parametreleri
üzerine etkisi incelenmiştir. Denemede Lohman Brown yumurtacı tavuklardan elde edilen toplam 720 adet
yumurta kullanılmıştır. Toptancı (yazın 33°C, kışın 18°C) ve tüketici (+4°C) koşullarında 4 hafta süreyle saklanan
yumurtalarda haftalık olarak iç-dış kalite kriterleri incelenmiştir.
Araştırma sonucunda, yumurta ağırlık kayıpları saklama süresi ile artmıştır. Bu kayıplar yaz mevsiminde
ve toptancı koşullarında yüksek olmuştur. Her iki mevsimde saklama süresince iç kalite özellikleri saklama
The present study was conducted to investigate whether wholesaler and consumer conditions affect egg
quality parameters in summer and winter seasons. This experiment was carried out with a total of 720 eggs obtained
from Lohman Brown hens. The eggs were stored in wholesaler conditions (33ºC summer, 18ºC winter) and
consumer conditions (+ 4ºC) for 4 weeks. External and internal quality traits of eggs were measured weekly.
The results of the experiment, egg weight loss increased linearly with storage time. These weight losses
were higher in summer and wholesaler condition. Internal quality characteristics were influenced by the storage
temperature during the storage period in both seasons. As a result, egg qualities which are stored in the consumer
conditions were similarly determined in summer and winter seasons. The results suggest that eggs which are
stored wholesaler conditions can be safely consume for one week of storage in summer time whereas egg of shelf
life was elongated until two weeks of storage in winter time
Oxidative Stress Occurring and Preventing in Poultry
The present study is prepared to focus on the oxidative stress, its occurring, causing and
preventing precautions by nutritional manipulation in poultry. It is well known that free radicals are
typically atoms containing one or more unpaired electrons. Most biologically–relevant free radicals
are derived from oxygen and nitrogen, the so-called free radical, oxidant molecule or reactive
oxygen species. This element in certain circumstances is converted into free radicals having highly
unstable and their reactive capacity makes them capable of damaging biologically relevant
molecules such as DNA, proteins, lipids or carbohydrates. Oxidative stress causes some detrimental
effects on tissues, growth performance and also product quality in poultry. Dietary supplemental
natural and synthetic antioxidant substances (carotenoid, vitaimin A, vitamin C, vitamin E,
methionine, selenyum, zinc, omega 3 fatty acid, flavanoids, coenzyme Q, lycopen, carnitine, some plant extracts, nutrogenomic additives) could be possible to reduce or prevent these negative
effects
oynayabilmektedir. Mevcut çalışmada kasaplık sığırlarda koyu renkli karkas oluşumunun mekanizmaları ve
önleyici besleme stratejileri üzerinde durulmuştur
Effects of Dietary Starch and Crude Protein Levels on Milk Production and Composition of Dairy Cows Fed High Concentrate Diet
Effects of two dietary levels of starch and crude protein on performance of dairy cow fed low roughage level (70:30 concentrate to roughage) were investigated. Twenty eight Holstein cows were randomly assigned to one of four dietary treatments in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. Factors were two dietary level of starch (14% and 22%) and crude protein (15% and 18%). Wheat straw was used as sole roughage source. The study was continued 6 weeks. Dry matter intake was not affected (P>0.05) by the dietary treatments in the study. Milk and protein yield (kg/d) were higher (

Milk and protein yield (kg/d) were higher (P<0.05) with higher dietary crude protein level at each starch level. Milk urea concentrations were affected (P<0.01) by dietary protein levels with a value being higher by high dietary protein level. Nitrogen efficiency (Milk N/N intake) was decreased by increasing dietary crude protein level in the diet (P< 0.01). In conclusion, the cows fed TMR containing low level of wheat straw responded better when dietary protein increased. But, efficiency of N use decreased and N excretion to the environment increased
Effect of feeding starter containing butyrate salt on pre- and post-weaning performance of early or normally weaned calves
Two experiments were conducted to examine the influence of the starter
supplemented with butyrate salts on the performance of Holstein calves.
Twenty-three and thirty-five male calves were used in the Experiment I
and II, respectively. Total duration of the experiments are 70 d (35 d preweaning and 35 d post-weaning) and 100 d (60 d pre-weaning and 40 d
post-weaning), respectively. In both of the experiments, all calves were kept
together with their dam and fed colostrum for the first 3 days after calving
and then housed in calf hutches. Calves were fed individually whole milk (4
l/d) with two meals and starter diets ad libutum in pre-weaning period, while
total mixed ration contained starter (60%) and alfalfa hay ground (40%)
were used in post-weaning period. The starter diets contained 0 (without
butyrate salt, CON), 1.5 g/kg sodium butyrate (NaB15), and 3.0 g/kg sodium
butyrate (NaB30) in the experiment I, 0 (without butyrate salt, CON), 2.5
g/kg calcium butyrate (CaB25) and 5.0 g/kg calcium butyrate (CaB50) in
the experiment II. Live weight, live weight gain and feed intake of calves
were determined weekly in each experiment. Feeding starter containing
NaB increased significantly (P< 0.05) live weight, live weight gain, and feed
conversion efficiency of calves during pre-weaning period, but did not postweaning period. On the other hand, feeding starter supplemented with CaB
did not affect performance of calves in both periods. The present results
suggest that the inclusion of NaB in starter feeds could be recommended for
calves in early weaning program
