    Electrochemical properties of composite cathodes using Sm doped layered perovskite for intermediate temperature-operating solid oxide fuel cell

The ASR of a composite cathode (mixture of SBCO and Ce0.9Gd0.1O2āˆ’d) on a Ce0.9Gd0.1O2āˆ’d (CGO91) electrolyte decreased with respect to the CGO91 content; the percolation limit was also achieved for a 50 wt% SBCO and 50 wt% CGO91 (SBCO50) composite cathode. The ASRs of SBCO50 on the dense CGO91 electrolyte in the overall temperature range of 500 to 750 Ā°C were relatively lower than those of SBCO50 on the CGO91 coated dense 8 mol % yttria-stabilized zirconia (8YSZ) electrolyte for the same temperature range. From 750 Ā°C and for all higher temperatures tested, however, the ASRs of SBCO50 on the CGO91 coated dense 8YSZ electrolyte were lower than those of the CGO91 electrolyte.     A VIBRATION ANALYSIS AND TEST OF A 5X5 ROD BUNDLE

    ABSTRACT A FE analysis and test has been performed for a 5x5 rod bundle which consists of twenty-three rods that are 2.2 m tall and 9.5 mm in diameter, with two guide tubes and five spacer grids. Two guide tubes were welded to the spacer grids through the medium of guide tube sleeves. Two out of the twenty-three rods were empty, and the rest of them were filled with lead (Pb) rods instead of UO2 pellets. The vibration test was performed for the rod bundle in air, and the test result was compared with the FE analysis that was done by ABAQUS. 6.5 Hz for the first natural frequency, 15 Hz for the second natural frequency and 24 Hz for the third natural frequency were obtained by the vibration test while 4.3 Hz for the first natural frequency, 10.4 Hz for the second natural frequency and 19.2 Hz for the third natural frequency were obtained respectively by the FE analysis. Since two of the first, second and third modes were obtained in two different directions by the FE analysis, tests were carried out in two directions. It is concluded that the lower 6 modes are the bundle vibration modes. The first vibration modes of the rod supported by the springs appeared at 26.9 Hz to 27.0 Hz after the bundle vibration modes, and then several bundle vibration modes followed

    Recombinant Influenza Virus Carrying the Conserved Domain of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) G Protein Confers Protection Against RSV Without Inflammatory Disease

    Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is one of the most important causes for viral lower respiratory tract disease in humans. There is no licensed RSV vaccine. Here, we generated recombinant inļ¬‚uenza viruses (PR8/RSV. HA-G) carrying the chimeric constructs of hemagglutinin (HA) and central conserved-domains of the RSV G protein. PR8/RSV.HA-G virus showed lower pathogenicity without compromising immunogenicity in mice. Single intranasal inoculation of mice with PR8/RSV.HA-G induced IgG2a isotype dominant antibodies and RSV neutralizing activity. Mice with single intranasal inoculation of PR8/RSV.HA-G were protected against RSV infection as evidenced by signiļ¬cant reduction of lung viral loads to a detection limit upon RSV challenge. PR8/RSV.HA-G inoculation of mice did not induce pulmonary eosinophilia and inļ¬‚ammation upon RSV infection. These ļ¬ndings support a concept that recombinant inļ¬‚uenza viruses carrying the RSV G conserved-domain can be developed as a promising RSV vaccine candidate without pulmonary disease

    Proteomic analysis of pregnancy-related proteins from pig uterus endometrium during pregnancy

    Many important molecular events associated with implantation and development occur within the female reproductive tract, especially within the uterus endometrium, during pregnancy periods. The endometrium includes the mucosal lining of the uterus, which provides a suitable site for implantation and development of a fertilized egg and fetus. To date, the molecular cascades in the uterus endometrium during pregnancy periods in pigs have not been elucidated fully. In this study, we compared the functional regulated proteins in the endometrium during pregnancy periods with those in non-pregnant conditions and investigated changes in expression patterns during pregnancy (days 40, 70, and 93) using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and western blotting. The functional regulated proteins were identified and discovered from differentially expressed proteins in the uterus endometrium during pregnancy. We discovered 820 protein spots in a proteomic analysis of uterus endometrium tissues with 2-DE gels. We identified 63 of the 98 proteins regulated differentially among non-pregnant and pregnant tissues (matched and unmatched spots). Interestingly, 10 of these 63 proteins are development-, cytoskeleton- and chaperon-related proteins such as transferrin, protein DJ-1, transgelin, galectin-1, septin 2, stathmin 1, cofilin 1, fascin 1, heat shock protein (HSP) 90Ī² and HSP 27. The specific expression patterns of these proteins in the endometrium during pregnancy were confirmed by western blotting. Our results suggest that the expressions of these genes involved in endometrium function and endometrium development from early to late gestation are associated with the regulation of endometrium development for maintaining pregnancy

    Neogenin expression may be inversely correlated to the tumorigenicity of human breast cancer

    BACKGROUND: Neogenin is expressed in cap cells that have been suggested to be mammary stem or precursor cells. Neogenin is known to play an important role in mammary morphogenesis; however its relationship to tumorigenesis remains to be elucidated. METHODS: To compare the expression levels of neogenin in cells with different tumorigenicity, the expression levels in M13SV1, M13SV1R2 and M13SV1R2N1 cells, which are immortalized derivatives of type I human breast epithelial cells, were evaluated. Then we measured the expression level of neogenin in paired normal and cancer tissues from eight breast cancer patients. Tissue array analysis was performed for 54 human breast tissue samples with different histology, and the results were divided into four categories (none, weak, moderate, strong) by a single well-trained blinded pathologist and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The nontumorigenic M13SV1 cells and normal tissues showed stronger expression of neogenin than the M13SV1R2N1 cells and the paired cancer tissues. In the tissue array, all (8/8) of the normal breast tissues showed strong neogenin expression, while 93.5% (43/46) of breast cancer tissues had either no expression or only moderate levels of neogenin expression. There was a significant difference, in the expression level of neogenin, in comparisons between normal and infiltrating ductal carcinoma (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Neogenin may play a role in mammary carcinogenesis as well as morphogenesis, and the expression may be inversely correlated with mammary carcinogenicity. The value of neogenin as a potential prognostic factor needs further evaluation

    Fluctuation Study of the Specific Heat of MgB2

    The specific heat of polycrystalline Mg11^{11}B2_{2} has been measured with high resolution ac calorimetry from 5 to 45 K at constant magnetic fields. The excess specific heat above Tc_{c} is discussed in terms of Gaussian fluctuations and suggests that Mg11^{11}B2_{2} is a bulk superconductor with Ginzburg-Landau coherence length Ī¾0=26\xi_{0}=26 \AA . The transition-width broadening in field is treated in terms of lowest-Landau-level (LLL) fluctuations. That analysis requires that Ī¾0=20\xi_{0}=20 \AA . The underestimate of the coherence length in field, along with deviations from 3D LLL predictions, suggest that there is an influence from the anisotropy of Bc2_{c2} between the c-axis and the a-b plane.Comment: Phys.     Do differences in profiling criteria bias performance measurements? Economic profiling of medical clinics under the Korea National Health Insurance program: An observational study using claims data

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>With a greater emphasis on cost containment in many health care systems, it has become common to evaluate each physician's relative resource use. This study explored the major factors that influence the economic performance rankings of medical clinics in the Korea National Health Insurance (NHI) program by assessing the consistency between cost-efficiency indices constructed using different profiling criteria.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Data on medical care benefit costs for outpatient care at medical clinics nationwide were collected from the NHI claims database. We calculated eight types of cost-efficiency index with different profiling criteria for each medical clinic and investigated the agreement between the decile rankings of each index pair using the weighted kappa statistic.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The exclusion of pharmacy cost lowered agreement between rankings to the lowest level, and differences in case-mix classification also lowered agreement considerably.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>A medical clinic may be identified as either cost-efficient or cost-inefficient, even when using the same index, depending on the profiling criteria applied. Whether a country has a single insurance or a multiple-insurer system, it is very important to have standardized profiling criteria for the consolidated management of health care costs.</p
