Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are popular alternative to the traditional handwashing with soap and water in both healthcare and community settings. Although some people use to carry small sanitizer bottles with them during travel; its utilization by common people come into picture during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of sudden requirement of those products within a short time, there was even shortage during the initial days. Once nationwide lockdown was declared in India, to prevent community spread; all the shops were closed including wine shops. During this tough time, many alcohol withdrawal cases were reported from different regions. Some people started taking hand sanitizers as a replacement for potable alcohol. Because of high alcoholic content and adulteration with methanol or any other substances, most of the people became ill and they were hospitalized. Deaths were also reported from different states following its consumption. Addiction to hand sanitizers is now considered as one of the overlooked problems globally. It is very difficult to erase the problem, especially among teenagers. Multi-task approach involving different populations at different levels are required to handle this problem

A Review on Gamification in e-learning: Effects and Challenges

    Get PDF
Information technology has brought us a great deal of technological advancement, opening up endless possibilities for distance education. E-Learning platforms make it possible to connect people around the globe. Using the various technologies that are available, Gamification enhances the performance of e-learning platforms. Gamification of e-learning platforms helps in providing an engaging learning experience for users of all ages. Applying gamification in a non-gaming environment motivates students and also keeps them engaged in learning. This paper summarizes various game elements such as points, leader boards, badges, provided to the users for better e-learning experience by gamifying the environment and discussing the impact of gamification

Suicide by unusual methods: a rare case of complex suicide

Genital Self-Mutilation (GSM) is usually associated with mental illness. It is considered as the most brutal form of self-harm. Many cases of such self-harm have been described by various authors in different times. However, its existence in absence of any mental illness and using it as a method of suicide is a matter of question. Although, some cases are reported; its incidence is very low. Its association with complex suicide is even much lower. Usually, in complex suicide, the victim chooses some methods which are less painful. Such a complicated case of complex suicide was brought to the tertiary care center of Dibrugarh, Assam for post mortem examination. The deceased, a 36 years old male was brought with history of cutting his external genitalia followed by hanging. The case has been described in this paper with relevant review literature.

Development of strategies to support home-based exercise adherence after stroke: a Delphi consensus

Objective To develop a set of strategies to enhance adherence to home-based exercises after stroke, and an overarching framework to classify these strategies. Method We conducted a four-round Delphi consensus (two online surveys, followed by a focus group then a consensus round). The Delphi panel consisted of 13 experts from physiotherapy, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, behaviour science and community medicine. The experts were from India, Australia and UK. Results In round 1, a 10-item survey using open-ended questions was emailed to panel members and 75 strategies were generated. Of these, 25 strategies were included in round 2 for further consideration. A total of 64 strategies were finally included in the subsequent rounds. In round 3, the strategies were categorised into nine domains - (1) patient education on stroke and recovery, (2) method of exercise prescription, (3) feedback and supervision, (4) cognitive remediation, (5) involvement of family members, (6) involvement of society, (7) promoting self-efficacy, (8) motivational strategies and (9) reminder strategies. The consensus from 12 experts (93%) led to the development of the framework in round 4. Conclusion We developed a framework of comprehensive strategies to assist clinicians in supporting exercise adherence among stroke survivors. It provides practical methods that can be deployed in both research and clinical practices. Future studies should explore stakeholders' experiences and the cost-effectiveness of implementing these strategies

Exploring intentional and motivational drives that reassure entrepreneurs in business sustainment

Exploratory study among entrepreneurs was conducted to reveal their present and future intentions and other motivational drives that make them to sustain their business in long-term. A survey was done among 174 entrepreneurs from retail, manufacturing and service sectors in Virudhunagar District. Structured questionnaire was used to get their opinion on variables like: Behaviour control, Risk tolerance, Attitude towards self-employment, Immediate Term Intentions and Future Intentions to sustain their business. The opinion on their level of the entrepreneurial capacities is also obtained to measure and compare their intentions to sustain the business. It is impressive to know that most of the entrepreneurs have started their business with greater intention to earn more profit and with less intention to create a social impact. 82 per cent of the entrepreneurs never thought of giving-up even when they faced challenges in their business. Cronbach Alpha tests revealed a high level of integrity among the independent variables used for the study. Correlation tests were used to identify relationships among demographic profile of the entrepreneurs and the intention and motivation drive factors. It is identified that entrepreneurs start their career with the motivation to maintain their societal status.&nbsp

Common mode behavior in grid connected DC and AC decoupled PV Inverter topologies

The transformer-less grid connected inverters are gaining more popularity due to their high efficiency, very low ground leakage current and economic feasibility especially in photovoltaic systems. The major issue which surfaces these systems is that of common mode leakage current which arises due to the absence of an electrical transformer connected between the inverter and the utility grid. Several topologies have evolved to reduce the impact of common mode leakage current and a majority of them have succeeded in eliminating the impacts and have well kept them within the limits of grid standards. This paper compares and analyses the impact of the common mode leakage current for four popular inverter configurations through simulation of the topologies such as H5, H6, HERIC and FBZVR inverters

Similarity solutions of the Burgers equation with linear damping

AbstractThe Burgers equation with linear damping has been subjected to Lie's group theoreticmethod of infinitesimal transformation to derive its solutions. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to obtain a new similarity variable for an equation of the Burgers type and therefore provide new solutions
