    Primary malignant melanoma of aryepiglottic fold

    Background: Primary malignant melanoma rarely arises from noncutaneous tissues that contain melanocytes. Head and neck mucosal melanomas account for 0.7% to 3.8% of all melanomas. Here we report a case of primary malignant melanoma of aryepiglottic fold.Result: Here we reported a case of primary malignant melanoma of aryepiglottic fold.Conclusion: Primary aryepiglottic fold melanoma is an exceptionally rare neoplasm with early distant metastases and aggressive fatal course. Early diagnosis and proper line of treatment are crucial for survival. Physicians should keep a high index of suspicion for diagnosis of this rare tumor especially in old age with pigmented or non-pigmented lesion in larynx

    Evaluation of genetic association of the INK4 locus with primary open angle glaucoma in East Indian population

    INK4 locus at chromosome 9p21 has been reported to be associated with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and its subtypes along with the associated optic disc parameters across the populations of European, Japanese and African ancestries. The locus encodes three tumor suppressor genes namely CDKN2A, ARF, CDKN2B and a long non-coding RNA CDKN2B-AS1 (also known as ANRIL). Here, we report association study of 34 SNPs from INK4 locus with POAG in a population of Indo-European ancestry from the eastern part of India (350 patients and 354 controls). With 81% power to detect genetic association we observed only nominal association of rs1011970 (uncorrected p = 0.048) with POAG and rs10120688 (uncorrected p = 0.048) in patients without a high intra-ocular pressure (IOP<21 mm of Hg) compared to controls. This study, in contrast to the previous reports, suggests lack of significant genetic association of INK4 locus with POAG in East Indian population which needs to be replicated in larger studies in diverse world populations

    Dissipative structure formation in cold-rolled Fe and Ni during heavy ion irradiation

    We report 4-probe resistivity measurements of cold-rolled Ni and Fe during 100 MeV oxygen ion irradiation, at 300K. The resistivity shows increase and saturation, marked by jumps. Employing 200 MeV silver ion irradiation of Fe and Si(100) and topographically identifying strain at an artificial interface in the latter, we assign the resistivity behavior to atomic rearrangements arising from dissipation of incident ion energy at internal interfaces of Ni and Fe, with positive feedback.}Comment: RevTex+ 7 Postscript figures; Fig 2 (topograph) available on demand to [email protected].     Priprava, in vitro i in vivo evaluacija bioadhezivnih mikrosfera s algino-pektinom: ispitivanje utjecaja polimera pomoću multiple poredbene analize

    Ionotropic gelation was used to entrap aceclofenac into algino-pectinate bioadhesive microspheres as a potential drug carrier for the oral delivery of this anti-inflammatory drug. Microspheres were investigated in vitro for possible sustained drug release and their use in vivo as a gastroprotective system for aceclofenac. Polymer concentration and polymer/drug ratio were analyzed for their influence on microsphere properties. The microspheres exhibited good bioadhesive property and showed high drug entrapment efficiency. Drug release profiles exhibited faster release of aceclofenac from alginate microspheres whereas algino-pectinate microspheres showed prolonged release. Dunett\u27s multiple comparison analyis suggested a significant difference in percent inhibition of paw edema when the optimized formulation was compared to pure drug. It was concluded that the algino-pectinate bioadhesive formulations exhibit promising properties of a sustained release form for aceclofenac and that they provide distinct tissue protection in the stomach.U radu je opisana priprava algino-pektinskih bioadhezivnih mikrosfera protuupalnog lijeka aceklofenaka metodom ionotropnog geliranja. In vitro je ispitivana mogućnost postupnog oslobađanja ljekovite tvari iz mikrosfera te mogućnost upotrebe mikrosfera kao gastroprotektivnog sustava za isporuku aceklofenaka in vivo. Ispitivan je utjecaj koncentracije polimera i omjera polimera i lijeka na svojstva mikrosfera. Mikrosfere su bile bioahezivne i sadržavale su veliki udio lijeka. Oslobađanje aceklofenaka iz alginatnih mikrosfera bilo je brže, a iz mikrosfera s algino-pektinom usporeno. Dunnetova multipla analiza ukazuje na značajnu razliku u postotku inhibicije edema šape kada se usporede optimizirana formulacija i čista ljekovita tvar. Može se zaključiti da su bioadhezivne mikrosfere s algino-pektinom povoljne za usporeno oslobađanje aceklofenaka te da pružaju umjerenu zaštitu sluznice želuca
