Linear representations of regular rings and complemented modular lattices with involution

Faithful representations of regular ∗\ast-rings and modular complemented lattices with involution within orthosymmetric sesquilinear spaces are studied within the framework of Universal Algebra. In particular, the correspondence between classes of spaces and classes of representables is analyzed; for a class of spaces which is closed under ultraproducts and non-degenerate finite dimensional subspaces, the latter are shown to be closed under complemented [regular] subalgebras, homomorphic images, and ultraproducts and being generated by those members which are associated with finite dimensional spaces. Under natural restrictions, this is refined to a 11-11-correspondence between the two types of classes

Sublattices of lattices of convex subsets of vector spaces

For a left vector space V over a totally ordered division ring F, let Co(V) denote the lattice of convex subsets of V. We prove that every lattice L can be embedded into Co(V) for some left F-vector space V. Furthermore, if L is finite lower bounded, then V can be taken finite-dimensional, and L embeds into a finite lower bounded lattice of the form Co(V,Z)={X∩Z∣X∈Co(V)}Co(V,Z)=\{X\cap Z | X\in Co(V)\}, for some finite subset ZZ of VV. In particular, we obtain a new universal class for finite lower bounded lattices

For a partially ordered set P, we denote by Co(P) the lattice of order-convex subsets of P. We find three new lattice identities, (S), (U), and (B), such that the following result holds. Theorem. Let L be a lattice. Then L embeds into some lattice of the form Co(P) iff L satisfies (S), (U), and (B). Furthermore, if L has an embedding into some Co(P), then it has such an embedding that preserves the existing bounds. If L is finite, then one can take P finite, of cardinality at most 2n2−5n+42n^2-5n+4, where n is the number of join-irreducible elements of L. On the other hand, the partially ordered set P can be chosen in such a way that there are no infinite bounded chains in P and the undirected graph of the predecessor relation of P is a tree

Sustainable development of multicultural communities affected by translingualism has gained a special importance with the recognition of mixed languages within the framework of ecolinguistical methodology, which considers language communities as ecosystems. The paper aims at the ecolinguistic analysis of the relationship between language and its environment. The study implies the dual nature of language ecology (physiological and social) and the fact that the ecology of the language depends on people studying and using it, transmitting the language to others. The extensive use Spanglish is promoted by a wide range of sources, including literary texts and digital media as a form of sustainability in the American social environment. The paper enlists and discusses the features of Spanglish applying the ecological, linguistic, componential, distribution and statistical analysis methods. The study focuses on the novel Yo-Yo Boing! by Giannina Braschi and results in making certain observations on the sustainability of Spanglish societies in the USA. The paper sums up that Spanglish represents a new means of social interaction which can be described as a poststandard translingual culture serving to overcome existing environmental threats

The article deals with the issues of linguistic and cultural adaptation of students, the problems they face in a new environment. According to the results of the research, the patterns of connections between the student's personality, socio-cultural skills, academic performance and adaptation to new linguistic and cultural realities are revealed. The process of adaptation is manifested in the verbal behavior of foreign-speaking students. Experimental studies show the length of social and cultural contact, the connection with the former mates, who remained at home. This makes it possible to model the process of replacing old contacts with new ones, how this process affects learning, to what extent the formation of a team is determined by the socio-demographic characteristics of student

Transcription regulation of the EcoRV restriction–modification system

When a plasmid containing restriction–modification (R–M) genes enters a naïve host, unmodified host DNA can be destroyed by restriction endonuclease. Therefore, expression of R–M genes must be regulated to ensure that enough methyltransferase is produced and that host DNA is methylated before the endonuclease synthesis begins. In several R–M systems, specialized Control (C) proteins coordinate expression of the R and the M genes. C proteins bind to DNA sequences called C-boxes and activate expression of their cognate R genes and inhibit the M gene expression, however the mechanisms remain undefined. Here, we studied the regulation of gene expression in the C protein-dependent EcoRV system. We map the divergent EcoRV M and R gene promoters and we define the site of C protein-binding that is sufficient for activation of the EcoRV R transcription

Mitochondriotropic and Cardioprotective Effects of Triphenylphosphonium-Conjugated Derivatives of the Diterpenoid Isosteviol

Mitochondria play a crucial role in the cell fate; in particular, reducing the accumulation of calcium in the mitochondrial matrix offers cardioprotection. This affect is achieved by a mild depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane potential, which prevents the assembly and opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore. For this reason, mitochondria are an attractive target for pharmacological interventions that prevent ischaemia/reperfusion injury. Isosteviol is a diterpenoid created from the acid hydrolysis of Steviarebaudiana Bertoni (fam. Asteraceae) glycosides that has shown protective effects against ischaemia/reperfusion injury, which are likely mediated through the activation of mitochondrial adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP)-sensitive potassium (mitoKATP) channels. Some triphenylphosphonium (triPP)-conjugated derivatives of isosteviol have been developed, and to evaluate the possible pharmacological benefits that result from these synthetic modifications, in this study, the mitochondriotropic properties of isosteviol and several triPP-conjugates were investigated in rat cardiac mitochondria and in the rat heart cell line H9c2. This study's main findings highlight the ability of isosteviol to depolarize the mitochondrial membrane potential and reduce calcium uptake by the mitochondria, which are typical functions of mitochondrial potassium channel openings. Moreover, triPP-conjugated derivatives showed a similar behavior to isosteviol but at lower concentrations, indicative of their improved uptake into the mitochondrial matrix. Finally, the cardioprotective property of a selected triPP-conjugated derivative was demonstrated in an in vivo model of acute myocardial infarct
