Undisturbed box samples have been taken from a Saalian till complex and associated shear zone in the Central Netherlands. Microscopic studies of vertical thin sections of so-called mammoth-size (7 x 14 cm) and microdensitometer readings taken from X-ray images reveal amongst others (1) a closely spaced textural banding, (2) the presence of two types of unconsolidated pebbles, i.e. mud pebbles and till pebbles, (3) different types of plasmic fabric, i.e. skel-lattisepic fabric for most of the till matrix and till pebbles and a strong unistrial fabnc associated with shear zones. The present observations are in accordance with earlier macroscopic field and laboratory studies, indicating till formation under conditions of continuous subglacial shearing, by which much local material is reworked as well

Increasing Hotel Responsiveness to Customers through Information Sharing Tourism Review

    No full text
Purpose – the purpose of this paper is to investigate customer responsiveness in the hotel industry, and the role of market orientation including both internal and external information sharing.design/methodology/approach – based on a review of the supply chain management and marketing literature, a conceptual model was constructed and tested based on a survey of european hotel managers using pls path modeling.findings – market orientation seems to be an important basis for cross-functional and inter-organizational information sharing. Information exchange, both internal and external, can explain over 50 percent of customer responsiveness, as perceived by hotel managers.research limitations/implications – the study mainly focused on european four- and five-star hotels. The final sample is considered representative, but relatively small (50 respondents). The observed importance of information sharing warrants further investigation.practical implications – while many hotel managers may focus on cleanliness, comfort of rooms, quality of food and friendliness, it seems that both internal and external information sharing are important antecedents of customer responsiveness, and hence satisfaction and loyalty.originality/value – this paper, by combining marketing and supply chain management concepts into one model, offers new insights into the hotel business. Customer responsiveness can be improved through market orientation and information sharing

Supplier contribution to buyer innovativeness:the influence of customer attractiveness and strategic fit

    No full text
Buying companies increasingly need suppliers that substantially contribute to their innovation and capability resources. Customer attractiveness and the strategic fit with a supplier are likely to play an important role in new product development projects. However, no research has addressed and simultaneously investigated the interplay of strategic fit, customer attractiveness, and supplier contribution to buyer innovativeness. This study fills this gap by carrying out a quantitative survey study among 81 members of the branch organization for the Dutch fabricated metal industry. The findings largely confirm the positive relations between the core variables of this study. The results suggest that purchasing professionals should invest in customer attractiveness, rather than coerce business partners into supplier development programs
