Subcutaneous rupture of the Achilles tendon and ipsilateral fracture of the medial malleolus
BACKGROUND: Although ankle fractures and an Achilles tendon rupture are relatively frequent in isolation, their association in the same injury is uncommon. CASE PRESENTATION: A 38 year old male tree surgeon fell six meters from a tree, sustaining a subcutaneous rupture of the Achilles tendon and an ipsilateral closed fracture of the medial malleolus. The injuries were diagnosed following clinical examination and imaging. CONCLUSION: This injury combination is infrequent, and management of the Achilles tendon rupture should take into account the necessity not to secondarily displace the fracture of the medial malleollus
Are menâs perceptions of sexually dimorphic vocal characteristics related to their testosterone levels?
Feminine physical characteristics in women are positively correlated with markers of their mate quality. Previous research on menâs judgments of womenâs facial attractiveness suggests that men show stronger preferences for feminine characteristics in womenâs faces when their own testosterone levels are relatively high. Such results could reflect stronger preferences for high quality mates when mating motivation is strong and/or following success in male-male competition. Given these findings, the current study investigated whether a similar effect of testosterone occurs for menâs preferences for feminine characteristics in womenâs voices. Menâs preferences for feminized versus masculinized versions of womenâs and menâs voices were assessed in five weekly test sessions and saliva samples were collected in each test session. Analyses showed no relationship between menâs voice preferences and their testosterone levels. Menâs tendency to perceive masculinized menâs and womenâs voices as more dominant was also unrelated to their testosterone levels. Together, the results of the current study suggest that testosterone-linked changes in responses to sexually dimorphic characteristics previously reported for men's perceptions of faces do not occur for men's perceptions of voices

A Measurement of the Proton Structure Function
A measurement of the proton structure function is reported
for momentum transfer squared between 4.5 and 1600 and
for Bjorken between and 0.13 using data collected by the
HERA experiment H1 in 1993. It is observed that increases
significantly with decreasing , confirming our previous measurement made
with one tenth of the data available in this analysis. The dependence is
approximately logarithmic over the full kinematic range covered. The subsample
of deep inelastic events with a large pseudo-rapidity gap in the hadronic
energy flow close to the proton remnant is used to measure the "diffractive"
contribution to .Comment: 32 pages, ps, appended as compressed, uuencoded fil
The outdistanced vanguard: early retirement policy in Denmark as an obstacle to progress in active aging
The authors describe the case of Denmark that is said to be one of the few countries in the world coping well with the challenge of providing older workers with a favorable labor market situation and socially adequate old age pensions. Compared to other countries, however, employment rates of older workers over 60 have not increased significantly in recent years. This might be related to a generous early retirement scheme. Furthermore, educational attainment and gender impact heavily on a personâs retirement timing. In sum, Denmarkâs reputation as a vanguard in a context of âactive agingâ is in question
