Parenting perceptions and experiences of healthcare professionals employed in contact tracing teams

    Get PDF
The pandemic has mandated some healthcare workers to provide contact tracing services. The present study aimed to discuss the parenting perceptions and experiences of healthcare professionals assigned to contact tracing teams. We carried out this phenomenological study with 29 mothers and 26 fathers selected using purposive sampling techniques. We collected the data using a demographic information form and a parent interview form and analyzed them using the content analysis method. The results revealed that the parents attempted to balance the risks of their tasks with their parenting roles. Also, their perception of protecting their families was the basis of their efforts to protect themselves. Moreover, the social distance to family members revealed longing and intimacy expectations among the participants. The pandemic has significantly impacted families, which is exponentially dramatic for contact tracing teams as health workers. Therefore, it seems significant to carry out counseling work with such families

Fundamentals of Molecular Docking and Comparative Analysis of Protein–Small-Molecule Docking Approaches

    No full text
Proteins (e.g., enzymes, receptors, hormones, antibodies, transporter proteins, etc.) seldom act alone in the cell, and their functions rely on their interactions with various partners such as small molecules, other proteins, and/or nucleic acids. Molecular docking is a computational method developed to model these interactions at the molecular level by predicting the 3D structures of complexes. Predicting the binding site and pose of a protein with its partner through docking can help us to unveil protein structure-function relationship and aid drug design in numerous ways. In this chapter, we focus on the fundamentals of protein docking by describing docking methods including search algorithm, scoring, and assessment steps as well as illustrating recent successful applications in drug discovery. We especially address protein–small-molecule (drug) docking by comparatively analyzing available tools implementing different approaches such as ab initio, structure-based, ligand-based (pharmacophore-/shape-based), information-driven, and machine learning approaches

Determining family relations through drawing: Family relations in images drawn by immigrant children

    No full text
Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate family relations of immigrant children with the drawing method. Design and methods: The sample, which was carried out using the visual phenomenology method, consisted of 60 immigrant children between the ages of 4–14. The data were collected by face-to-face interviews with the children and family, using the Family Information Form and the Family Drawing Test. The data obtained from the drawings were analyzed with the MAXQDA 2022 program. Results: The pictures drawn by the children were examined and 3 themes (Chaos, Necessity, Development) and 9 sub-themes (Interpersonal Relations, Thoughts about Future, Violence, Authority, Emotional State, Communication, Needs and Desires, Role Modeling, Personality) were formed. Conclusions: It was determined that the family relations of immigrant children were adversely affected, children had conflicts with family members, were exposed to violence, felt many emotions, such as fear, anxiety, loneliness, anger, longing, exclusion, and needed communication, attention, and support. Implication to practice: It is thought that nurses could use the picture analysis method to understand the feelings and thoughts of children

Experimental Investigation And Performance Analysis Of Gasketed-Plate Heat Exchangers

In this study, the thermal and hydrodynamic performance analyses of sa elected gasketed-plate heat exchanger with different number of plates are performed experimentally. A gasketed-plate heat exchanger (GPHE) test set-up is designed and constructed to perform experimental measurements for thermal and hydrodynamic performance analyses of plate heat exchangers. The experiments are performed for an industrial chevron-type plate heat exchanger under different flow conditions for a wide range of Reynolds numbers between 450 and 5250. The temperatures at the inlet and outlet ports, the volumetric flow rates of the hot and cold fluids, and the pressure drops between the inlet and outlet ports are measured during the experiments. By using the experimental data, Nusselt number correlation for heat transfer analysis and a friction factor correlation for pressure drop calculations are developed for the chevron-type plate heat exchanger tested as a function of Reynolds number and Prandtl number. The results obtained from these new correlations are compared with several existing correlations in the literature, which were developed for different plates. Although the trends of the new correlations are similar with the ones in the literature, this study shows that every plate design needs its specific correlations for heat transfer and pressure drop calculations, since the specific correlations developed for the specific plates tested are different than the ones given in literature. Obtaining these kinds of correlations for local products is especially important for the related industry to improve with the help of local test set-ups.This research was supported by Turkish Ministry of Science, Technology and Industry and Tektes Inc. as a SANTEZ project, by Turkish Academy of Sciences TUBA-GEBIP Distinguished Young Scientists Awards Programme and TUBITAK 1001 programme (Project no:112M173). Managing food allergies at school: A qualitative study

Introduction: The prevalence of childhood allergic diseases, including food allergies, has increased globally. Parents and children have experienced psychosocial and financial difficulties, decreased quality of life, anxiety, and depression in the management of food allergies in schools. Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine the challenges experienced by mothers of children with food allergies during their children's school life. Design: A qualitative phenomenological study design was used. Methods: Online interviews were conducted with 9 mothers who have children with food allergies between June–August 2022. The data were analyzed using the content analysis method. The COREQ checklist was used in the study. Results: The ages of the mothers participating in the study ranged from 28 to 40. Four themes were generated from 75 codes: 1) Problems experienced in the process of utilizing health services, 2) Burden of care, 3) Coming out of the shell: The school process, and 4) Environmental and social perspective. Conclusions: Mothers carried the burden of food allergy management during the school process, and the increased burden of care negatively impacted mothers emotionally, physically, and socially. Also, mothers were anxious about the safety of their school-age children with food allergies and their experiences with school administration, teachers, and other parents made it difficult for food allergy management in the school environment. Clinical relevance: Children with chronic health problems such as food allergies need to be closely monitored by a health professional in school to ensure their safety. Nurses have a pivotal role in supporting families to address their child's food allergies competently, hence fostering positive health outcomes. This study showed that there was a need for the development of school health policies to ensure the safety of children with food allergies and to reduce anxiety and care burden among mothers

Experimental comparison of performances of three different plates for gasketed plate heat exchangers

In this study, an experimental set-up for testing chevron type gasketed plate heat exchangers is utilized to investigate the thermal and hydraulic characteristics of three different plate geometries. The experiments are performed using various number of plates, several flow rate and inlet and outlet temperature values so that the Reynolds numbers (300-5000) and Prandtl numbers vary for all the plates that have 30 degrees of chevron angle. Plate-specific correlations are derived for Nusselt number and friction factor by using the experimental results. (c) 2013 Elsevier Masson SAS. The Nobel Prize, which is awarded annually, is open to everyone, regardless of nationality, race, belief or ideology, and winners are announced in October. We evaluated the history of the Nobel prizes for awards that have been awarded in fields related to cancer. The contents of the research and their contribution to oncology were determined and reviewed. There were nine awards directly related to cancer. Only studies thought to be groundbreaking in carcinogenesis and molecular treatment of cancer are included in this review
