Mass and density of the transiting hot and rocky super-Earth LHS 1478 b (TOI-1640 b)
One of the main objectives of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite
({TESS}) mission is the discovery of small rocky planets around relatively
bright nearby stars. Here, we report the discovery and characterization of the
transiting super-Earth planet orbiting LHS~1478 (TOI-1640). The star is an
inactive red dwarf (\,mag and spectral type m3\,V) with mass and
radius estimates of \, and \,,
respectively, and an effective temperature of \,K.It was observed by
\tess in four sectors. These data revealed a transit-like feature with a period
of 1.949 days. We combined the TESS data with three ground-based transit
measurements, 57 radial velocity (RV) measurements from CARMENES, and 13 RV
measurements from IRD, determining that the signal is produced by a planet with
a mass of \, and a radius of
\,. The resulting bulk density of this planet
is 6.67\,g\,cm, which is consistent with a rocky planet with an Fe- and
MgSiO-dominated composition. Although the planet would be too hot to
sustain liquid water on its surface (its equilibrium temperature is about
595\,K, suggesting a Venus-like atmosphere), spectroscopic metrics based
on the capabilities of the forthcoming James Webb Space Telescope and the fact
that the host star is rather inactive indicate that this is one of the most
favorable known rocky exoplanets for atmospheric characterization.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, 6 tables, accepted for publication in A&

Clinical features of post-COVID-19 period. Results of the international register “Dynamic analysis of comorbidities in SARS-CoV-2 survivors (AKTIV SARS-CoV-2)”. Data from 6-month follow-up
Aim. To study the clinical course specifics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and comorbid conditions in COVID-19 survivors 3, 6, 12 months after recovery in the Eurasian region according to the AKTIV register. Material and methods. The AKTIV register was created at the initiative of the Eurasian Association of Therapists. The AKTIV register is divided into 2 parts: AKTIV 1 and AKTIV 2. The AKTIV 1 register currently includes 6300 patients, while in AKTIV 2 — 2770. Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 receiving in- and outpatient treatment have been anonymously included on the registry. The following 7 countries participated in the register: Russian Federation, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Uzbekistan. This closed multicenter register with two nonoverlapping branches (in- and outpatient branch) provides 6 visits: 3 in-person visits during the acute period and 3 telephone calls after 3, 6, 12 months. Subject recruitment lasted from June 29, 2020 to October 29, 2020. Register will end on October 29, 2022. A total of 9 fragmentary analyzes of the registry data are planned. This fragment of the study presents the results of the post-hospitalization period in COVID-19 survivors after 3 and 6 months. Results. According to the AKTIV register, patients after COVID-19 are characterized by long-term persistent symptoms and frequent seeking for unscheduled medical care, including rehospitalizations. The most common causes of unplanned medical care are uncontrolled hypertension (HTN) and chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) and/or decompensated type 2 diabetes (T2D). During 3- and 6-month follow-up after hospitalization, 5,6% and 6,4% of patients were diagnosed with other diseases, which were more often presented by HTN, T2D, and CAD. The mortality rate of patients in the post-hospitalization period was 1,9% in the first 3 months and 0,2% for 4-6 months. The highest mortality rate was observed in the first 3 months in the group of patients with class II-IV heart failure, as well as in patients with cardiovascular diseases and cancer. In the pattern of death causes in the post-hospitalization period, following cardiovascular causes prevailed (31,8%): acute coronary syndrome, stroke, acute heart failure. Conclusion. According to the AKTIV register, the health status of patients after COVID-19 in a serious challenge for healthcare system, which requires planning adequate health system capacity to provide care to patients with COVID-19 in both acute and post-hospitalization period
Specifics of type IV collagen expression in basal cell skin carcinoma
Rationale: Type IV collagen is the main component of the basal membrane ensuring its integrity. Basal membrane destruction is associated with absent type IV collagen expression being directly related to an increased tumor invasion risk. Specifics of the protein expression in various morphological types of basal cell carcinoma have not been well described. Aim: To study the association between type IV collagen expression and basal cell carcinoma morphological structure and invasion potential. Materials and methods: We performed an immunohistochemistry analysis with anti-type IV collagen antibodies on 30 biopsy specimens of the skin involved with basal cell carcinoma. Results: The superficial multicentric type of basal cell carcinoma differed from the solid, micronodular, and infiltrative types by linear continuous type IV collagen expression (р < 0.0083). Most often, there was no type IV collagen expression in the micronodular and infiltrative basal cell carcinomas; however, no significant difference of the solid type and each of the abovementioned types was found. Aggressive basal cell carcinoma types (micronodular and infiltrative, taken together) were significantly different (р = 0.033) from the solid type by the absence of type IV collagen expression. Linear continuous expression was seen exclusively in basal cell carcinomas with the invasion of < 0.825 mm. Conclusion: We have identified the difference in type IV collagen expression depending on the morphological type of basal cell skin carcinoma, prevailing linear continuous expression in the superficial multicentric type and its absence in the micronodular and infiltrative types
CHARACTERISTICS OF PROLIFERATION AND INTERCELLULAR ADHESION IN PRE-CANCEROUS AND MALIGNANT EPITHELIAL SKIN TUMORS
Background: Differential diagnostics between actinic keratosis which is one of pre-cancerous skin diseases, and intra-epidermal squamous cell skin cancer (or Bowen's disease) could be difficult in some cases even with morphological examination. The study on molecular characteristics of pre-cancerous skin disorders would allow for more accurate diagnostics and assessment of prognosis. Aim: To study proliferative activity of keratinocytes and E-cadherin expression on cell membranes in actinic keratosis and in Bowen's disease, with identification of differential diagnostic criteria. Materials and methods: We performed an immunohistochemistry study with anti-Ki-67 and anti-Е-cadherin monoclonal antibodies in skin bioptates of 23 patients with actinic keratosis and 10 patients with Bowen's disease. Results: The mean proliferation index in actinic keratosis without the bowen-like loci was 30.9 ± 11.4% (range, from 11.5 to 48.4%), and in actinic keratosis with the bowen-like loci, 40.3 ± 8.6% (range, from 31 to 57.6%). In both groups, E-cadherin expression in all cases (100%) was located in cell membranes. The mean proliferation index in Bowen's disease was 44.7 ± 8.2% (range, from 33.3 to 60%). In 48.2% of Bowen cells, abnormal type of E-cadherin expression (reduced membranous, membranous and cytoplasmatic and cytoplasmatic only). Conclusion: Actinic keratosis and Bowen's disease represent different stages of one and the same malignant process that have different proliferative cell activity and E-cadherin expression, which could be used as differential diagnostic markers
