    Inclusive SUSY searches at the LHC

    I summarize the status of the inclusive SUSY searches conducted by the ATLAS and CMS experiments using the 20 fb-1 of 8 TeV LHC data in the all inclusive, 0 lepton, >=1 lepton and >=2 lepton final states. Current searches show that data are consistent with the SM.     Search for Natural SUSY with inclusive search strategies at the LHC using the CMS detector

    Natural SUSY suggests the existence of light stop quarks, accessible at the LHC, which are the focus of a dedicated CMS search program. I present two inclusive CMS searches that look for TeV scale colored sparticles in final states with jets, b-tagged jets and missing transverse energy performed using up to 19.4fb-1 of 8TeV LHC proton-proton data.     Status of CMS dark matter searches in 2011

    We present the status of dark matter searches performed by the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment using 7 TeV pp data collected by the CERN Large Hadron Collider in 2010 and 2011. The majority of the results shown here were obtained using 1.1 fb-1 of data. We give highlights from analyses searching for candidates such as WIMPs, gravitinos, axinos and TeV scale particles. All observations so far were found to be consistent with the Standard Model predictions.     Deterministic Versus Randomized Kaczmarz Iterative Projection

    Kaczmarz's alternating projection method has been widely used for solving a consistent (mostly over-determined) linear system of equations Ax=b. Because of its simple iterative nature with light computation, this method was successfully applied in computerized tomography. Since tomography generates a matrix A with highly coherent rows, randomized Kaczmarz algorithm is expected to provide faster convergence as it picks a row for each iteration at random, based on a certain probability distribution. It was recently shown that picking a row at random, proportional with its norm, makes the iteration converge exponentially in expectation with a decay constant that depends on the scaled condition number of A and not the number of equations. Since Kaczmarz's method is a subspace projection method, the convergence rate for simple Kaczmarz algorithm was developed in terms of subspace angles. This paper provides analyses of simple and randomized Kaczmarz algorithms and explain the link between them. It also propose new versions of randomization that may speed up convergence

    The Granger-causality (GC) and error correction (ECM) techniques were applied 1980-2005 data for Turkey to examine cointegration and causality among foreign direct investment(FDI) in tourism sector, overall GDP, and exchange rate volatility (EX). According to the ECM technique, the hypothesis that “no cointegration” was rejected for all three variables. The GC results detect causality runs from one-way from GDP to FDI, but the GC results detect bi-directional causality between GDP and EX suggesting that GDP and EX are jointly determined, but one way causality running from FDI to EX.Cointegration; Causality; Vector Error Correction Model; Turkey

    This Study examines the interaction of current account (CA) deficits with other macroeconomic and demographic variables such as per capita GDP, inflation rate (INF), government consumption (Govc), electric consumption (epw), fertility rate (fert), domestic credit to private sector (Dcr), industry value added (iva), life expectancy for Turkey (lifexp), and population age 65 or above (pop) using specification methods on Least Squares Methods (OLS). The dependent variable is per capita GDP since it represents well-being of a country. Recent debates in the Turkish Congress and in the media are full of acrimony about the accretion of the CA deficits because they believe that huge current account deficit is a sign of an economic crisis in the near future.     Nearness to Local Subspace Algorithm for Subspace and Motion Segmentation

    There is a growing interest in computer science, engineering, and mathematics for modeling signals in terms of union of subspaces and manifolds. Subspace segmentation and clustering of high dimensional data drawn from a union of subspaces are especially important with many practical applications in computer vision, image and signal processing, communications, and information theory. This paper presents a clustering algorithm for high dimensional data that comes from a union of lower dimensional subspaces of equal and known dimensions. Such cases occur in many data clustering problems, such as motion segmentation and face recognition. The algorithm is reliable in the presence of noise, and applied to the Hopkins 155 Dataset, it generates the best results to date for motion segmentation. The two motion, three motion, and overall segmentation rates for the video sequences are 99.43%, 98.69%, and 99.24%, respectively

    Model Inference with Reference Priors

    We describe the application of model inference based on reference priors to two concrete examples in high energy physics: the determination of the CKM matrix parameters rhobar and etabar and the determination of the parameters m_0 and m_1/2 in a simplified version of the CMSSM SUSY model. We show how a 1-dimensional reference posterior can be mapped to the n-dimensional (n-D) parameter space of the given class of models, under a minimal set of conditions on the n-D function. This reference-based function can be used as a prior for the next iteration of inference, using Bayes' theorem recursively.Comment: Proceedings of PHYSTAT1

    Reconciling thermal leptogenesis with the gravitino problem in SUSY models with mixed axion/axino dark matter

    Successful implementation of thermal leptogenesis requires re-heat temperatures T_R\agt 2\times 10^9 GeV, in apparent conflict with SUSY models with TeV-scale gravitinos, which require much lower T_R in order to avoid Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) constraints. We show that mixed axion/axino dark matter can reconcile thermal leptogenesis with the gravitino problem in models with m_{\tG}\agt 30 TeV, a rather high Peccei-Quinn breaking scale and an initial mis-alignment angle \theta_i < 1. We calculate axion and axino dark matter production from four sources, and impose BBN constraints on long-lived gravitinos and neutralinos. Moreover, we discuss several SUSY models which naturally have gravitino masses of the order of tens of TeV. We find a reconciliation difficult in Yukawa-unified SUSY and in AMSB with a wino-like lightest neutralino. However, T_R\sim 10^{10}-10^{12} GeV can easily be achieved in effective SUSY and in models based on mixed moduli-anomaly mediation. Consequences of this scenario include: 1. an LHC SUSY discovery should be consistent with SUSY models with a large gravitino mass, 2. an apparent neutralino relic abundance \Omega_{\tz_1}h^2\alt 1, 3. no WIMP direct or indirect detection signals should be found, and 4. the axion mass should be less than \sim 10^{-6} eV, somewhat below the conventional range which is explored by microwave cavity axion detection experiments.Comment: 25 pages including 15 .eps figures; updated version to coincide with published versio
