    Implications of a class of neutrino mass matrices with texture zeros for non-zero θ13\theta_{13}

    Full text link
    A class of neutrino mass matrices with texture zeros realizable using the group Z3Z_3 within the framework of type (I+II) seesaw mechanism naturally admits a non-zero θ13\theta_{13} and allows for deviations from maximal mixing. The phenomenology of this model is reexamined in the light of recent hints for non-zero θ13\theta_{13}.Comment: some references added, version published in Physical Review

    Estimates of the unreported economy in India

    Get PDF
    This paper presents estimates of India's unofficial economy on a yearly basis for the period 1967 to 1978. These estimates implicitly revise the GNP, per capita and other related statistics for this period. The technique employed has been recently used to determine the size of the unreported economies in U.S.A. and Canada. The results indicate that the unreported activity as a proportion of official GNP has grown from 9.5 per cent in 1967 to nearly 49 per cent by 1978. High taxes have contributed significantly to the growth of the unofficial economy. A 1 per cent increase in overall taxes leads to more than 3 per cent increase in the unofficial economy relative to the official economy.

    CP Violation in Two Zero Texture Neutrino Mass Matrices

    Full text link
    It has been shown that the neutrino mass matrices with two texture zeros in the charged lepton basis predict non-zero 1-3 mixing and are necessarily CP violating with one possible exception in class C for maximal mixing.Comment: 6 pages, no figures, final version with minor changes, to appear in Phys. Lett.

    The Economic Costs of Corruption: A Survey and New Evidence

    Get PDF
    This paper reviews the empirical literature on the economic costs of corruption. Corruption affects economic growth, the level of GDP per capita, investment activity, international trade and price stability negatively. Additionally, it biases the composition of government expenditures. The second part of the paper estimates the effect of corruption on economic growth and GDP per capita as well as on six possible transmission channels. The results of this analysis allows to calculate the total effect of corruption: An increase of corruption by about one index point reduces GDP growth by 0.13 percentage points and GDP per capita by 425 US$.Costs of Corruption, Survey, Empirical Evidence

    Leptogenesis in a Hybrid Texture Neutrino Mass Model

    Full text link
    We investigate the CP asymmetry for a hybrid texture of the neutrino mass matrix predicted by Q8Q_8 family symmetry in the context of the type-I seesaw mechanism and examine its consequences for leptogenesis. We, also, calculate the resulting Baryon Asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) for this texture.Comment: Accepted for publication in Mod. Phys. Lett.
