CAD and creativity: does the computer really help?

    Get PDF
We are frequently told by its exponents that computeraided design (CAD) liberates designers and gives them new ways of envisioning their work, but is this really true? CAD in architecture is examined to see to what extent it has enhanced creativity in design. This is partly done by applying a test of creativity advanced by contemporary architect Herman Hertzberger. In this analysis, CAD is found somewhat wanting, and some suggestions are made as to why this might be so

Abstract: In the present paper I analyze the phonetic changes in the Latin language of Scythia Minor based on the deviations found on imperial inscriptions of the area. After limiting the number of phonetic deviations to strictly linguistic deviations, we will see, that the most frequent deviations confirm the future Romance phonetic changes and especially in case of the Rumanian language. As the numbers for vowel and consonant deviations are similarly high, we can state that this region takes part of the third group based on the criteria defined by József Herman (s. Herman, 2000b: 128-133)

It is a well-known fact that Vladimir Nabokov liked to place misleading obstacles in the way of his critics in order to confuse them. Difficulties in the analysis of texts by this author, however, arise also from the fact that, on the one hand, Nabokov is a phenomenon of several literatures and in the different periods of his literary career found inspiration in different literary traditions (On the influence of Herman Hesse, R. Walser, W. Shakespeare see Semyonova 2001; on the influence of Proust, Joyce and Kafka see Zinaida Shahovskaya (Shahovskaya 1995)

The FBI says they want to see the contents of one mass murderer’s iPhone. They are bringing the case, though, in the hopes that it will set in motion legal and political changes that would further reduce all Americans’ right to privacy against government searches. Bill Herman argues that the potential impact of that precedent, plus the resulting threats to everyone’s online security, means we should all be concerned
