The development of post-processing algorithm for the ultrasonic evaluation by the application of automated robotic testing systems

    Get PDF
The implementation of automated testing systems based on six degrees of freedom (DOF) robotic manipulators is the actual trend in ultrasonic testing equipment development. Such systems are able to provide a fast ultrasonic evaluation with the respect of the surface of the testing object. In this work, the post-processing algorithm based on Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT) is suggested. Such algorithm allows presenting the results in the form of high-resolution imagery of the internal structure of testing objects. The suggested algorithm is applicable in the case of the utilization of automated testing systems based on six DOF robotic manipulators and takes into account all the features conditioned by such equipment application. Performance of the suggested algorithm was tested experimentally

Compulsory Checking of Nuclear Power Engineering Materials by Direct and Eddy Current

    Get PDF
The testing technology of copper parts designed for dry storage of spent nuclear fuel with application of direct and eddy current has been developed. Measurements results of flaw quantity caused hydrogenation and oxidation processes are presented. Evolution of copper M 001 flaw structure during hydrogenation from gaseous medium is analyzed. It has been demonstrated that the dependence of copper p electrical resistance on number of flaws in its structure has dome shaped character and changes with eddy current frequency change. Number of flaws formed by hydrogen depends on direction (100) or (200) of the crystal structure of copper lattice

The implementation of post-processing algorithm for ultrasonic testing of welds

    Get PDF
The current development of systems of pulse-echo ultrasonic testing systems is conditioned by the increasing of inspection results reliability. The application of Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT) is one of the solutions to this problem. The implementation of the post-processing algorithms based on SAFT strongly depends on the conditions of the ultrasonic scanning. In this paper, the issues related to SAFT implementation in the case of ultrasonic inspection of welds are considered. As a result, the post-processing algorithm, which takes into account the main features of such objects inspection, is proposed. The capabilities of the suggested algorithm were verified via the computer simulations. It was determined that the suggested algorithm is able to provide accurate and precise imageries of the flaws located in the weld

Digitally focused array ultrasonic testing technique for carbon fiber composite structures

    Get PDF
Composite fiber reinforced polymers are highly promising structures. At present, they are widely used in different areas such as aeronautics and nuclear industries. There is a great number of advantages of composite structures such as design flexibility, low cost per cubic inch, resistance to corrosion, lower material costs, lighter weight and improved productivity. However, composites degradation may be caused by different mechanisms such as overload, impact, overheating, creep and fatigue. Comparing to inspection of other materials some unique consideration is required for testing and analysis. Ultrasound testing is the most common method for inspection of composite structures. Digitally Focused Array Technology is considered as novel approach which enables fast and effective quantitative automatic testing. In this study new methodology of quality assurance of composite structure components based on DFA is performed
