The extended conformal theory of Luttinger systems
We describe the recently introduced method of algebraic bosonization of the
-dimensional Luttinger systems by discussing in detail the specific case
of the Calogero-Sutherland model, and mentioning the hard-core Bose gas. We
also compare our findings with the exact Bethe Ansatz results.Comment: 9 pages, plain Latex file, ,based on a talk given by S. Sciuto at the

Algebraic bosonization: the study of the Heisenberg and Calogero-Sutherland models
We propose an approach to treat (1+1)--dimensional fermionic systems based on
the idea of algebraic bosonization. This amounts to decompose the elementary
low-lying excitations around the Fermi surface in terms of basic building
blocks which carry a representation of the W_{1+\infty} \times {\overline
W_{1+\infty}} algebra, which is the dynamical symmetry of the Fermi quantum
incompressible fluid. This symmetry simply expresses the local particle-number
current conservation at the Fermi surface. The general approach is illustrated
in detail in two examples: the Heisenberg and Calogero-Sutherland models, which
allow for a comparison with the exact Bethe Ansatz solution.Comment: 51 pages, plain LaTe

The Quantum Algebraic Structure of the Twisted XXZ Chain
We consider the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method with a new R-matrix
depending on two parameters and . We find that the underlying algebraic
structure is the two-parameter deformed algebra enlarged by
introducing an element belonging to the centre. The corresponding Hamiltonian
describes the spin-1/2 XXZ model with twisted periodic boundary conditions.Comment: LateX file, 9 pages, Minor changes (including authors` names in the

Type 2 diabetes and reduced exercise tolerance: A review of the literature through an integrated physiology approach
The association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and heart failure (HF) is well established. Early in the course of the diabetic disease, some degree of impaired exercise capacity (a powerful marker of health status with prognostic value) can be frequently highlighted in otherwise asymptomatic T2DM subjects. However, the literature is quite heterogeneous, and the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms are far from clear. Imaging-cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is a non-invasive, provocative test providing a multi-variable assessment of pulmonary, cardiovascular, muscular, and cellular oxidative systems during exercise, capable of offering unique integrated pathophysiological information. With this review we aimed at defying the cardiorespiratory alterations revealed through imaging-CPET that appear specific of T2DM subjects without overt cardiovascular or pulmonary disease. In synthesis, there is compelling evidence indicating a reduction of peak workload, peak oxygen assumption, oxygen pulse, as well as ventilatory efficiency. On the contrary, evidence remains inconclusive about reduced peripheral oxygen extraction, impaired heart rate adjustment, and lower anaerobic threshold, compared to non-diabetic subjects. Based on the multiparametric evaluation provided by imaging-CPET, a dissection and a hierarchy of the underlying mechanisms can be obtained. Here we propose four possible integrated pathophysiological mechanisms, namely myocardiogenic, myogenic, vasculogenic and neurogenic. While each hypothesis alone can potentially explain the majority of the CPET alterations observed, seemingly different combinations exist in any given subject. Finally, a discussion on the effects -and on the physiological mechanisms-of physical activity and exercise training on oxygen uptake in T2DM subjects is also offered. The understanding of the early alterations in the cardiopulmonary response that are specific of T2DM would allow the early identification of those at a higher risk of developing HF and possibly help to understand the pathophysiological link between T2DM and HF
The Lorentz force between D0 and D6 branes in string and M(atrix) theory
We use different techniques to analyze the system formed by a D0 brane and a
D6 brane (with background gauge fields) in relative motion. In particular,
using the closed string formalism of boosted boundary states, we show the
presence of a term linear in the velocity, corresponding to the Lorentz force
experienced by the D0 brane moving in the magnetic background produced by the
D6 brane. This term, that was missed in previous analyses of this system, comes
entirely from the R-R odd spin structure and is also reproduced by a M(atrix)
theory calculation.Comment: 13 pages, plain LaTeX; some clarifying comments and a reference adde
Using Speculative Computation and Parallelizing Techniques to Improve Scheduling of Control based Designs
partially_open5Recent research results have seen the application of parallelizing techniques to high-level synthesis. In particular, the effect of speculative code transformations on mixed control-data flow designs has demonstrated effective results on schedule lengths. In this paper we first analyze the use of the control and data dependence graph as an intermediate representation that provides the possibility of extracting the maximum parallelism. Then we analyze the scheduling problem by formulating an approach based on Integer Linear Programming (ILP) to minimize the number of control steps given the amount of resources. We improve the already proposed ILP scheduling approaches by introducing a new conditional resource sharing constraint which is then extended to the case of speculative computation. The ILP formulation has been solved by using a Branch and Cut framework which provides better results than standard branch and bound techniquesR. Cordone; F. Ferrandi; G. Palermo; M. Santambrogio; D.
