Effect of quenching strategy and Nb-Mo sdditions on phase transformations and quenchability of high-strength boron steels
The application of direct quenching after hot rolling of plates is being employed in the production of ultra-high-strength hot rolled plates. When heavy gauge plates are produced, the complexity involve in achieving high cooling rates in the plate core is increased and the formation of undesirable soft phases within martensite is common. In the current paper, both direct quenching and conventional quenching (DQ and CQ) processing routes were reproduced by dilatometry tests and continuous cooling transformation (CCT) diagrams were built for four different high-strength boron steels. The results indicate that the addition of Mo and Nb-Mo suppresses the ferritic region and considerably shifts the CCT diagram to lower transformation temperatures. The combination of DQ strategy and the Mo-alloying concept provides the best option to ensure hardenability and the formation of a fully martensitic microstructure, and to avoid the presence of soft phases in the center of thick plates
No triangles on the moduli space of maximally supersymmetric gauge theory
Maximally supersymmetric gauge theory in four dimensions has a remarkably
simple S-matrix at the origin of its moduli space at both tree and loop level.
This leads to the question what, if any, of this structure survives at the
complement of this one point. Here this question is studied in detail at one
loop for the branch of the moduli space parameterized by a vacuum expectation
value for one complex scalar. Motivated by the parallel D-brane picture of
spontaneous symmetry breaking a simple relation is demonstrated between the
Lagrangian of broken super Yang-Mills theory and that of its higher dimensional
unbroken cousin. Using this relation it is proven both through an on- as well
as an off-shell method there are no so-called triangle coefficients in the
natural basis of one-loop functions at any finite point of the moduli space for
the theory under study. The off-shell method yields in addition absence of
rational terms in a class of theories on the Coulomb branch which includes the
special case of maximal supersymmetry. The results in this article provide
direct field theory evidence for a recently proposed exact dual conformal
symmetry motivated by the AdS/CFT correspondence.Comment: 39 pages, 4 figure
Multigluon tree amplitudes with a pair of massive fermions
We consider the calculation of n-point multigluon tree amplitudes with a pair
of massive fermions in QCD. We give the explicit transformation rules of this
kind of massive fermion-pair amplitudes with respect to different reference
momenta and check the correctness of them by SUSY Ward identities. Using these
rules and onshell BCFW recursion relation, we calculate the analytic results of
several n-point multigluon amplitudes.Comment: 15page
High precision fundamental constants at the TeV scale
This report summarizes the proceedings of the 2014 Mainz Institute for
Theoretical Physics (MITP) scientific program on "High precision fundamental
constants at the TeV scale". The two outstanding parameters in the Standard
Model dealt with during the MITP scientific program are the strong coupling
constant and the top-quark mass . Lacking knowledge on the
value of those fundamental constants is often the limiting factor in the
accuracy of theoretical predictions. The current status on and

Massive amplitudes on the Coulomb branch of N=4 SYM
We initiate a systematic study of amplitudes with massive external particles
on the Coulomb-branch of N=4 super Yang Mills theory: 1) We propose that
(multi-)soft-scalar limits of massless amplitudes at the origin of moduli space
can be used to determine Coulomb-branch amplitudes to leading order in the
mass. This is demonstrated in numerous examples. 2) We find compact explicit
expressions for several towers of tree-level amplitudes, including scattering
of two massive W-bosons with any number of positive helicity gluons, valid for
all values of the mass. 3) We present the general structure of superamplitudes
on the Coulomb branch. For example, the n-point "MHV-band" superamplitude is
proportional to a Grassmann polynomial of mixed degree 4 to 12, which is
uniquely determined by supersymmetry. We find explicit tree-level
superamplitudes for this MHV band and for other simple sectors of the theory.
4) Dual conformal generators are constructed, and we explore the dual conformal
properties of the simplest massive amplitudes. Our compact expressions for
amplitudes and superamplitudes should be of both theoretical and
phenomenological interest; in particular the tree-level results carry over to
truncations of the theory with less supersymmetry.Comment: 29 pages, 1 figur
Coupling of alpha(1)-Adrenoceptors to ERK1/2 in the Human Prostate
Introduction: alpha(1)-Adrenoceptors are considered critical for the regulation of prostatic smooth muscle tone. However, previous studies suggested further alpha(1)-adrenoceptor functions besides contraction. Here, we investigated whether alpha(1)-adrenoceptors in the human prostate may activate extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK1/2). Methods: Prostate tissues from patients undergoing radical prostatectomy were stimulated in vitro. Activation of ERK1/2 was assessed by Western blot analysis. Expression of ERK1/2 was studied by immunohistochemistry. The effect of ERK1/2 inhibition by U0126 on phenylephrine-induced contraction was studied in organ-bath experiments. Results: Stimulation of human prostate tissue with noradrenaline (30 mu M) or phenylephrine (10 mu M) resulted in ERK activation. This was reflected by increased levels of phosphorylated ERK1/2. Expression of ERK1/2 in the prostate was observed in smooth muscle cells. Incubation of prostate tissue with U0126 (30 mu M) resulted in ERK1/2 inhibition. Dose-dependent phenylephrine-induced contraction of prostate tissue was not modulated by U0126. Conclusions: alpha(1)-Adrenoceptors in the human prostate are coupled to ERK1/2. This may partially explain previous observations suggesting a role of alpha(1)-adrenoceptors in the regulation of prostate growth. Copyright (C) 2011 S. Karger AG, Base
Painted flowers: Eluta generates pigment patterning in Antirrhinum
*In the early 1900s, Erwin Baur established Antirrhinum majus as a model system, identifying and characterising numerous flower colour variants. This included Picturatum /Eluta, which restricts the accumulation of magenta anthocyanin pigments, forming bullseye markings on the flower face. *We identified the gene underlying the Eluta locus by transposon-tagging, using an Antirrhinum line that spontaneously lost the non-suppressive el phenotype. A candidate MYB repressor gene at this locus contained a CACTA transposable element. We subsequently identified plants where this element excised, reverting to a suppressive Eluta phenotype. El alleles inhibit expression of anthocyanin biosynthetic genes, confirming it to be a regulatory locus. The modes of action of Eluta were investigated by generating stable transgenic tobacco lines, biolistic transformation of Antirrhinum petals and by promoter activation/repression assays. *Eluta competes with MYB activators for promoter cis-elements, and also by titrating essential co-factors (bHLH proteins) to reduce transcription of target genes. Eluta restricts the pigmentation established by the R2R3-MYB factors, Rosea and Venosa, with greatest repression on those parts of the petals where Eluta is most highly expressed. *Baur questioned the origin of heredity units determining flower colour variation in cultivated A. majus. Our findings support introgression from wild species into cultivated varieties. <br/
Betalain production is possible in anthocyanin-producing plant species given the presence of DOPA-dioxygenase and L-DOPA
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Carotenoids and anthocyanins are the predominant non-chlorophyll pigments in plants. However, certain families within the order Caryophyllales produce another class of pigments, the betalains, instead of anthocyanins. The occurrence of betalains and anthocyanins is mutually exclusive. Betalains are divided into two classes, the betaxanthins and betacyanins, which produce yellow to orange or violet colours, respectively. In this article we show betalain production in species that normally produce anthocyanins, through a combination of genetic modification and substrate feeding.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The biolistic introduction of DNA constructs for transient overexpression of two different dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) dioxygenases (DODs), and feeding of DOD substrate (L-DOPA), was sufficient to induce betalain production in cell cultures of <it>Solanum tuberosum </it>(potato) and petals of <it>Antirrhinum majus</it>. HPLC analysis showed both betaxanthins and betacyanins were produced. Multi-cell foci with yellow, orange and/or red colours occurred, with either a fungal DOD (from <it>Amanita muscaria</it>) or a plant DOD (from <it>Portulaca grandiflora</it>), and the yellow/orange foci showed green autofluorescence characteristic of betaxanthins. Stably transformed <it>Arabidopsis thaliana </it>(arabidopsis) lines containing <it>35S: AmDOD </it>produced yellow colouration in flowers and orange-red colouration in seedlings when fed L-DOPA. These tissues also showed green autofluorescence. HPLC analysis of the transgenic seedlings fed L-DOPA confirmed betaxanthin production.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The fact that the introduction of DOD along with a supply of its substrate (L-DOPA) was sufficient to induce betacyanin production reveals the presence of a background enzyme, possibly a tyrosinase, that can convert L-DOPA to <it>cyclo</it>-DOPA (or dopaxanthin to betacyanin) in at least some anthocyanin-producing plants. The plants also demonstrate that betalains can accumulate in anthocyanin-producing species. Thus, introduction of a DOD and an enzyme capable of converting tyrosine to L-DOPA should be sufficient to confer both betaxanthin and betacyanin production to anthocyanin-producing species. The requirement for few novel biosynthetic steps may have assisted in the evolution of the betalain biosynthetic pathway in the Caryophyllales, and facilitated multiple origins of the pathway in this order and in fungi. The stably transformed <it>35S: AmDOD </it>arabidopsis plants provide material to study, for the first time, the physiological effects of having both betalains and anthocyanins in the same plant tissues.</p
Unitarity, BRST Symmetry and Ward Identities in Orbifold Gauge Theories
We discuss the use of BRST symmetry and the resulting Ward identities for
orbifold gauge theories as consistency checks in an arbitrary number of
dimensions. We verify that both the usual orbifold symmetry breaking and the
recently proposed Higgsless symmetry breaking are consistent with the
nilpotency of the BRST transformation. Imposing the Ward identities resulting
from the BRST symmetry on the 4-point functions of theory, we obtain relations
on the coupling constants that are shown to be equivalent to the conditions for
tree level unitarity. We present the complete set of these sum rules also for
inelastic scattering and discuss applications to 6-dimensional models and to

Inclusive top-pair production phenomenology with TOPIXS
We discuss various aspects of inclusive top-quark pair production based on
TOPIXS, a new, flexible program that computes the production cross section at
the Tevatron and LHC at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy in soft
and Coulomb resummation, including bound-state effects and the complete
next-to-next-to-leading order result in the q-qbar channel, which has recently
become available. We present the calculation of the top-pair cross section in
pp collisions at 8 TeV centre-of-mass energy, as well as the cross sections for
hypothetical heavy quarks in extensions of the standard model. The dependence
on the parton distribution input is studied. Further we investigate the impact
of LHC top cross section measurements at sqrt(s)=7 TeV on global fits of the
