Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Inflammatory Cardiomyopathy: Cardiac Homing and Beyond
Under conventional heart failure therapy, inflammatory cardiomyopathy usually has a progressive course, merging for alternative interventional strategies. There is accumulating support for the application of cellular transplantation as a strategy to improve myocardial function. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the advantage over other stem cells that they possess immunomodulatory features, making them attractive candidates for the treatment of inflammatory cardiomyopathy. Studies in experimental models of inflammatory cardiomyopathy have consistently demonstrated the potential of MSCs to reduce cardiac injury and to improve cardiac function. This paper gives an overview about how inflammation triggers the functionality of MSCs and how it induces cardiac homing. Finally, the potential of intravenous application of MSCs by inflammatory cardiomyopathy is discussed

Power systems for the RHIC first sextant test
The first sextant test of the RHIC project is an opportunity to evaluate the many systems that must work together for the accelerator to operate. For the main dipole string, the actual main quadrupole power supply with its DSP regulator and output circuit compartment will be used. Temporary supplies will be used for the main quadrupole string, quadrupole offset, and quadrupole shunt supplies. This will let the authors both measure the performance of the main supply as well as determine the interaction among other power elements in the circuit. Correction elements will also be powered. The actual gamma-T power supplies will be used, as well as temporary supplies for the dipole correctors and sextupole supplies. Some of these units are required for beam to be transported, others are to be operated without beam to measure their performance, and how they interact with their superconducting loads. The power supply equipment, and that of other systems, required an infrastucture of AC power and output cable distribution in the RHIC tunnel, outlying service buildings, and interconnecting the tunnel to the service buildings. This note will describe the performance of the RHIC power supply systems during the sextant test, and the experience gained from this exercise
Continuous measurement of global difference coupling using a phase-locked-loop tune meter in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider
We present a new technique to continuously measure and compensate the global difference coupling coefficient through the continuous measurements of eigenmode projection parameters, using a high resolution phase-locked-loop tune meter. First, four eigenmode projection parameters are defined as the observables for weak difference coupling. Then, their analytical expressions are obtained using the strict matrix treatment and the Hamiltonian perturbation theory of linear coupling. From these parameters, the complex global coupling coefficient can be fully determined and compensated. This method was successfully demonstrated in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) 2006 run
Simultaneous tune and coupling feedback in the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, and possible implications for the Large Hadron Collider commissioning
Simultaneous tune and coupling feedback were successfully implemented during RHIC run 6. In this paper we describe the measurement and control hardware and software used to accomplish this, present some of the results, discuss areas that require further investigation, and finally offer a few comments on possible implications of these results for LHC commissioning

Facial expressions depicting compassionate and critical emotions: the development and validation of a new emotional face stimulus set
Attachment with altruistic others requires the ability to appropriately process affiliative and kind facial cues. Yet there is no stimulus set available to investigate such processes. Here, we developed a stimulus set depicting compassionate and critical facial expressions, and validated its effectiveness using well-established visual-probe methodology. In Study 1, 62 participants rated photographs of actors displaying compassionate/kind and critical faces on strength of emotion type. This produced a new stimulus set based on N = 31 actors, whose facial expressions were reliably distinguished as compassionate, critical and neutral. In Study 2, 70 participants completed a visual-probe task measuring attentional orientation to critical and compassionate/kind faces. This revealed that participants lower in self-criticism demonstrated enhanced attention to compassionate/kind faces whereas those higher in self-criticism showed no bias. To sum, the new stimulus set produced interpretable findings using visual-probe methodology and is the first to include higher order, complex positive affect displays
