Hadron masses in QCD with one quark flavour
One-flavour QCD - a gauge theory with SU(3) colour gauge group and a fermion
in the fundamental representation - is studied by Monte Carlo simulations. The
mass spectrum of hadronic bound states is investigated in a volume with
extensions of L ~ 4.4r_0 (~2.2fm) at two different lattice spacings: a ~
0.37r_0 (~0.19fm) and a ~ 0.27r_0 (~0.13fm). The lattice action is Symanzik
tree-level-improved Wilson action for the gauge field and (unimproved) Wilson
action for the fermion.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures; further references adde
Velocity weakening and possibility of aftershocks in nanofriction experiments
We study the frictional behavior of small contacts as those realized in the
atomic force microscope and other experimental setups, in the framework of
generalized Prandtl-Tomlinson models. Particular attention is paid to
mechanisms that generate velocity weakening, namely a decreasing average
friction force with the relative sliding velocity. The mechanisms studied model
the possibility of viscous relaxation, or aging effects in the contact. It is
found that, in addition to producing velocity weakening, these mechanisms can
also produce aftershocks at sufficiently low sliding velocities. This provides
a remarkable analogy at the microscale, of friction properties at the
macroscale, where aftershocks and velocity weakening are two fundamental
features of seismic phenomena.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Perturbation theory for the two-dimensional abelian Higgs model in the unitary gauge
In the unitary gauge the unphysical degrees of freedom of spontaneously
broken gauge theories are eliminated. The Feynman rules are simpler than in
other gauges, but it is non-renormalizable by the rules of power counting. On
the other hand, it is formally equal to the limit of the
renormalizable R-gauge. We consider perturbation theory to one-loop
order in the R-gauge and in the unitary gauge for the case of the
two-dimensional abelian Higgs model. An apparent conflict between the unitary
gauge and the limit of the R-gauge is resolved, and it is
demonstrated that results for physical quantities can be obtained in the
unitary gauge.Comment: 15 pages, LaTeX2e, uses the feynmf package, formulations correcte
Exploring the phase structure of lattice QCD with twisted mass quarks
The phase structure of zero temperature twisted mass lattice QCD is
investigated. We find strong metastabilities in the plaquette observable when
the untwisted quark mass sweeps across zero.Comment: Talks presented at Lattice2004(spectrum), 6 pages, 6 figure
Parasites of the Spotted Sucker, Minytrema melanops (Cypriniformes: Catostomidae) from Arkansas and Oklahoma
During October 2015, March and April 2016 and again between March and April 2017, 15 Spotted Sucker (Minytrema melanops) were collected from sites in the Ouachita (n = 5), Red (n = 1), and St. Francis (n = 5) river drainages, Arkansas, and the Arkansas River drainage, Oklahoma (n = 4), and examined for protozoan and metazoan parasites. Found were Calyptospora sp., Myxobolus sp., Pseudomurraytrema alabarrum, Biacetabulum banghami, Penarchigetes oklensis, and Acanthocephalus sp. New host and distributional records are documented for these parasites
