Delaunay Ends of Constant Mean Curvature Surfaces
The generalized Weierstrass representation is used to analyze the asymptotic
behavior of a constant mean curvature surface that arises locally from an
ordinary differential equation with a regular singularity.
We prove that a holomorphic perturbation of an ODE that represents a Delaunay
surface generates a constant mean curvature surface which has a properly
immersed end that is asymptotically Delaunay. Furthermore, that end is embedded
if the Delaunay surface is unduloidal
Unitarization of monodromy representations and constant mean curvature trinoids in 3-dimensional space forms
We present a theorem on the unitarizability of loop group valued monodromy
representations and apply this to show the existence of new families of
constant mean curvature surfaces homeomorphic to a thrice-punctured sphere in
the simply-connected 3-dimensional space forms , \bbS^3 and \bbH^3.
Additionally, we compute the extended frame for any associated family of
Delaunay surfaces.Comment: 18 pages, revised versio
Constant mean curvature surfaces of any positive genus
We show the existence of several new families of non-compact constant mean
curvature surfaces: (i) singly-punctured surfaces of arbitrary genus , (ii) doubly-punctured tori, and (iii) doubly periodic surfaces with
Delaunay ends.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figure
An algorithm for correcting CoRoT raw light curves
We introduce the CoRoT detrend algorithm (CDA) for detrending CoRoT stellar
light curves. The algorithm CDA has the capability to remove random jumps and
systematic trends encountered in typical CoRoT data in a fully automatic
fashion. Since enormous jumps in flux can destroy the information content of a
light curve, such an algorithm is essential. From a study of 1030 light curves
in the CoRoT IRa01 field, we developed three simple assumptions which upon CDA
is based. We describe the algorithm analytically and provide some examples of
how it works. We demonstrate the functionality of the algorithm in the cases of
CoRoT0102702789, CoRoT0102874481, CoRoT0102741994, and CoRoT0102729260. Using
CDA in the specific case of CoRoT0102729260, we detect a candidate exoplanet
around the host star of spectral type G5, which remains undetected in the raw
light curve, and estimate the planetary parameters to be Rp=6.27Re and P=1.6986
days.Comment: 8 pages, 13 figure
Microscopic magnetic modeling for the =1/2 alternating chain compounds NaCuSbO and NaCuTeO
The spin-1/2 alternating Heisenberg chain system NaCuSbO features
two relevant exchange couplings: within the structural CuO
dimers and between the dimers. Motivated by the controversially
discussed nature of , we perform extensive density-functional-theory
(DFT) calculations, including DFT+ and hybrid functionals. Fits to the
experimental magnetic susceptibility using high-temperature series expansions
and quantum Monte Carlo simulations yield the optimal parameters =
217 K and = 174 K with the alternation ratio 1.25. For the closely related system
NaCuTeO, DFT yields substantially enhanced , but weaker
. The comparative analysis renders the buckling of the chains as the
key parameter altering the magnetic coupling regime. Numerical simulation of
the dispersion relations of the alternating chain model clarify why both
antiferromagnetic and ferrromagnetic can reproduce the experimental
magnetic susceptibility data.Comment: published version: 11 pages, 8 figures, 5 tables + Supplemental

Crystal water induced switching of magnetically active orbitals in CuCl2
The dehydration of CuCl2*2(H2O) to CuCl2 leads to a dramatic change in
magnetic behavior and ground state. Combining density functional electronic
structure and model calculations with thermodynamical measurements we reveal
the microscopic origin of this unexpected incident -- a crystal water driven
switching of the magnetically active orbitals. This switching results in a
fundamental change of the coupling regime from a three-dimensional
antiferromagnet to a quasi one-dimensional behavior. CuCl2 can be well
described as a frustrated J1-J2 Heisenberg chain with ferromagnetic exchange J1
and J2/J1 ~ -1.5 for which a helical ground state is predicted.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, 1 table (PRB, accepted
Non-Fermi liquid signatures in the Hubbard Model due to van Hove singularities
When a van-Hove singularity is located in the vicinity of the Fermi level,
the electronic scattering rate acquires a non-analytic contribution. This
invalidates basic assumptions of Fermi liquid theory and within perturbative
treatments leads to a non-Fermi liquid self-energy and transport
properties.Such anomalies are shown to also occur in the strongly correlated
metallic state. We consider the Hubbard model on a two-dimensional square
lattice with nearest and next-nearest neighbor hopping within the single-site
dynamical mean-field theory. At temperatures on the order of the low-energy
scale an unusual maximum emerges in the imaginary part of the self-energy
which is renormalized towards the Fermi level for finite doping. At zero
temperature this double-well structure is suppressed, but an anomalous energy
dependence of the self-energy remains. For the frustrated Hubbard model on the
square lattice with next-nearest neighbor hopping, the presence of the van Hove
singularity changes the asymptotic low temperature behavior of the resistivity
from a Fermi liquid to non-Fermi liquid dependency as function of doping. The
results of this work are discussed regarding their relevance for
high-temperature cuprate superconductors.Comment: revised version, accepted in Phys.Rev.
Analysis of the spectral function of Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4, obtained by angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy
Samples of Nd(2-x)Ce(x)CuO(4), an electron-doped high temperature
superconducting cuprate (HTSC), near optimal doping at x = 0.155 were measured
via angle resolved photoemission (ARPES). We report a renormalization feature
in the self energy ("kink") in the band dispersion at 50 - 60 meV present in
nodal and antinodal cuts across the Fermi surface. Specifically, while the kink
had previously only been seen in the antinodal region, it is now observed also
in the nodal region, reminiscent of what has been observed in hole-doped
cuprates.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
