Molecular characterization and outer membrane association of a Chlamydia trachomatis protein related to the hsp70 family of proteins.

One route by which Chlamydia trachomatis is internalized into host endometrial epithelial cells is receptor-mediated endocytosis. Although this implies an adhesin-receptor interaction exists, specific chlamydial surface molecules have not been identified. We are investigating potential adhesin molecules using an in vitro functional assay to select for chlamydial recombinant Escherichia coli expressing an adherent phenotype. We have previously shown that E. coli JM109(pPBW58) attaches to epithelial cells by a specific process paralleling C. trachomatis and expresses at least three plasmid-encoded proteins (18, 28, and 82 kDa; Schmiel, D. MAPK-pathway inhibition mediates inflammatory reprogramming and sensitizes tumors to targeted activation of innate immunity sensor RIG-I

Kinase inhibitors suppress the growth of oncogene driven cancer but also enforce the selection of treatment resistant cells that are thought to promote tumor relapse in patients. Here, we report transcriptomic and functional genomics analyses of cells and tumors within their microenvironment across different genotypes that persist during kinase inhibitor treatment. We uncover a conserved, MAPK/IRF1-mediated inflammatory response in tumors that undergo stemness- and senescence-associated reprogramming. In these tumor cells, activation of the innate immunity sensor RIG-I via its agonist IVT4, triggers an interferon and a pro-apoptotic response that synergize with concomitant kinase inhibition. In humanized lung cancer xenografts and a syngeneic Egfr-driven lung cancer model these effects translate into reduction of exhausted CD8(+) T cells and robust tumor shrinkage. Overall, the mechanistic understanding of MAPK/IRF1-mediated intratumoral reprogramming may ultimately prolong the efficacy of targeted drugs in genetically defined cancer patients

The teaching and learning concept of the library of the Hannover Medical School

MHH library considers the teaching an important part of the general information service. It has established a differentiated concept of training events for small and large groups, open and closed events. In the meantime partially curricular anchored events, knowledge in searching in the major databases, as well as the acquisition of literature and management are taught.Die MHH-Bibliothek sieht im Schulungsbereich einen wichtigen Bestandteil des allgemeinen Informationsdienstes. Es hat sich ein ausdifferenziertes Schulungskonzept aus Veranstaltungen für kleine und größere Gruppen, offener und geschlossener Veranstaltungen etabliert. In den inzwischen teilweise curricular verankerten Veranstaltungen werden Kenntnisse in der Recherche in den wichtigsten Datenbanken, sowie der Literaturbeschaffung und -verwaltung vermittelt

The University Bibliography - a tool for 'performance-related bonuses'

In March 2008 the Hannover Medical School installed a new procedure for the collection of the publication data of its members. Aim of this reorganisation to a central database by the library was to disburden the institutes from the creation of annual lists, to convenience the calculation of the "performance-related bonuses" and to generate an actual, transparent University Bibliography. By linking bibliography and "performance-related bonuses" through the publication data we gain on the one hand a high completeness of data, on the other hand the library presents itself as an important partner in scholarship-administration witch increases its external perception. Development and assertion of a capable system took place with involvement of diverse departments of university and was also meant as an attempt to locate the library in the network of research, lesson and administration on a new place. In this process it occurred that the most professional solution does not have to be the best.Im März 2008 erfolgte die Implementierung eines neuen Verfahrens zur Erfassung der Publikationsdaten von Angehörigen der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover. Ziel der Umstellung auf zentrale Datensammlung in der MHH-Bibliothek war, die Abteilungen von der dezentralen Erstellung jährlicher Listen zu entlasten, die Berechnung leistungsorientierter Mittel seitens des Präsidialamtes zu erleichtern sowie eine aktuelle, transparente Hochschulbibliografie zu erzeugen. Durch die Verbindung von Bibliografie und leistungsorientierter Mittelvergabe (LOM) anhand von Publikationsdaten wird zum einen eine hohe Vollständigkeit der Daten gewährleistet, zum anderen präsentiert sich die Bibliothek als wichtiger Partner der Wissenschaftsadministration und erhöht so ihre Außenwahrnehmung. Die Entwicklung und Durchsetzung eines geeigneten Systems erfolgte unter Einbeziehung verschiedener Hochschulbereiche und stellte auch einen Versuch dar, die Bibliothek im Netz von Forschung, Lehre und Verwaltung neu zu verorten. Dabei offenbarte sich, dass die professionellste Lösung nicht immer die beste sein muss
