Infinite Infrared Regularization and a State Space for the Heisenberg Algebra

We present a method for the construction of a Krein space completion for spaces of test functions, equipped with an indefinite inner product induced by a kernel which is more singular than a distribution of finite order. This generalizes a regularization method for infrared singularities in quantum field theory, introduced by G. Morchio and F. Strocchi, to the case of singularites of infinite order. We give conditions for the possibility of this procedure in terms of local differential operators and the Gelfand- Shilov test function spaces, as well as an abstract sufficient condition. As a model case we construct a maximally positive definite state space for the Heisenberg algebra in the presence of an infinite infrared singularity.Comment: 18 pages, typos corrected, journal-ref added, reference adde

Zeno Dynamics in Quantum Statistical Mechanics

We study the quantum Zeno effect in quantum statistical mechanics within the operator algebraic framework. We formulate a condition for the appearance of the effect in W*-dynamical systems, in terms of the short-time behaviour of the dynamics. Examples of quantum spin systems show that this condition can be effectively applied to quantum statistical mechanical models. Further, we derive an explicit form of the Zeno generator, and use it to construct Gibbs equilibrium states for the Zeno dynamics. As a concrete example, we consider the X-Y model, for which we show that a frequent measurement at a microscopic level, e.g. a single lattice site, can produce a macroscopic effect in changing the global equilibrium.Comment: 15 pages, AMSLaTeX; typos corrected, references updated and added, acknowledgements added, style polished; revised version contains corrections from published corrigend

Agglomeration mechanism during the preparation of nickel(0) and iron(0) zeolites

Magnetization measurements have been used to study the reduction process of Ni - zeolites and the thermal decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl adsorbed on NaY zeolites . The Ni(0) particle size distribution in H2»reduced NiNaA, Ni NaX, Ni NaY and NiNaM is bidisperse. The amount and the volume of particles exceeding the cage dimensions increases in the sequence Μ,Υ,Χ,Α zeolites. Particle fusion is found to be the rate determining step. With decomposition of Fe(C0)5/NaY adducts, up to 97 wt.% of the iron particles produced are smaller than 1.3 nm. Fluidized sample bed, inert gas atmosphere and fast heating up to 440 Κ are essential to reach mononodal dispersion

Study of the characteristics of GEM detectors for the future FAIR experiment CBM

Characteristics of triple GEM detector have been studied systematically. The variation of the effective gain and energy resolution of GEM with variation of the applied voltage has been measured with Fe55 X-ray source for different gas mixtures and with different gas flow rates. Long-term test of the GEM has also been performed.Comment: 2 Pages, 6 figure

Measurement of spark probability of GEM detector for CBM muon chamber (MUCH)

The stability of triple GEM detector setups in an environment of high energetic showers is studied. To this end the spark probability in a shower environment is compared to the spark probability in a pion beam.Comment: 5 pages, 10 figure

On the electronic structure of the charge-ordered phase in epitaxial and polycrystalline La1-xCaxMnO3 (x = 0.55, 0.67) perovskite manganites

In this work the charge transport properties of charge ordered (CO) La1-xCaxMnO3 (LCMO) (x= 0.55, 0.67) epitaxial thin films and polycrystals are discussed following the recent controversy of localised electron states vs. weakly or de- localised charge density wave (CDW) states in CO manganites. The transport properties were investigated by current vs. voltage, direct current resistivity vs. temperature, local activation energy vs. temperature, magnetoresistance and admittance spectroscopy measurements, which all indicated a localised electronic structure in the single CO phase. Delocalised charge anomalies observed previously may be restricted to phase separated materials.Comment: Physical Review B, to be publishe
