This paper analyzes the work of Omar Schiliro (1962-1994), an artist associated to the the Centro Cultural Rojas in Buenos Aires, who died of AIDS. Through the reflections about temporality provided by the queer theory —with special emphasis on affect theory— we investigate the forms of subjectivation that made up his biographical trajectory, the modes of resistance to the epidemic and its aesthetic and political bet characterized by procedures and materials degraded by the normative fictions of culture.Fil: Lemus, Francisco. Competitive androgen receptor antagonism as a factor determining the predictability of cumulative antiandrogenic effects of widely used pesticides

Copyright @ 2012 National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund. Background: Many pesticides in current use have recently been revealed as in vitro androgen receptor (AR) antagonists, but information about their combined effects is lacking.
Objective: We investigated the combined effects and the competitive AR antagonism of pesticide mixtures.
Methods: We used the MDA-kb2 assay to test a combination of eight AR antagonists that did not also possess AR agonist properties (“pure” antagonists; 8 mix: fludioxonil, fenhexamid, ortho-phenylphenol, imazalil, tebuconazole, dimethomorph, methiocarb, pirimiphos-methyl), a combination of five AR antagonists that also showed agonist activity (5 mix: cyprodinil, pyrimethanil, vinclozolin, chlorpropham, linuron), and all pesticides combined (13 mix). We used concentration addition (CA) and independent action (IA) to formulate additivity expectations, and Schild plot analyses to investigate competitive AR antagonism.
Results: A good agreement between the effects of the mixture of eight “pure” AR antagonists and the responses predicted by CA was observed. Schild plot analysis revealed that the 8 mix acted by competitive AR antagonism. However, the observed responses of the 5 mix and the 13 mix fell within the “prediction window” boundaries defined by the predicted regression curves of CA and IA. Schild plot analysis with these mixtures yielded anomalous responses incompatible with competitive receptor antagonism.
Conclusions: A mixture of widely used pesticides can, in a predictable manner, produce combined AR antagonist effects that exceed the responses elicited by the most potent component alone. Inasmuch as large populations are regularly exposed to mixtures of antiandrogenic pesticides, our results underline the need for considering combination effects for these substances in regulatory practice.

Fil: Krochmalny, Pablo. This Master’s thesis has been developed under the form of an in-company project as a marketing and communication plan for the French company Parfums Christian Dior. The company has international influence and is one of the leader on the luxury cosmetic market and possesses a growing range addressed to millennials and not strongly gendered yet, thus letting the space to change a bit its positioning for reaching men. In order to build this new positioning, we will study the impact of the digital on consumer behavior regarding cosmetics purchase and on the customer decision-making process, the key roles implied in a purchase and the evolution of the meaning of “Man” in our occidental society. Furthermore, it was necessary to collect data from the industry, the market, the competitors and about consumer behavior toward cosmetics and especially. This data collection has enabled us to better understand how and where to reach men, where competitors did not go or did not know how to address their strategy. An internal analysis has also been conducted to make a state of play of Dior’s strengths and weaknesses, based on its range, image, positioning and distribution strategy. The focus of this thesis is to understand how Dior could use its strengths and weaknesses to take the opportunities of the market and to counter the threats for reaching and selling its make-up to men, a very specific and hard to reach target.

Structural models and structural change: analytical principles and methodological issues

    Get PDF
Structural analysis is the main topic of this paper and structural change is a dominant theme of the present work. The analysis of structural models and of theories of structural changes carried out in this paper has a double meaning. On the one hand, it allows to pick up several essential principles that characterize these models, on the other hand, it should allow us to reconsider some important methodological issues under a new light, such as different methods of decomposition of the productive systems, the problem of complexity and the strategies to reduce complexity. Moreover, the paper tries to compare Quesnay’s Tableau, taken as a benchmark model, with Leontief’s, von Neumann’s and Sraffa’s models to pick up the different features of these models with respect to his theoretical framework and also to identify their characteristics for structural analysis and structural change.

INDEBTEDNESS IN THE TIME OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC – CASE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

The COVID-19 pandemic is a global unprecedented event since the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918. The IMF addressed this pandemic-caused economic fallout as the worst crisis since the Great Depression. Entire continents are in lockdowns just with essential services and activities. Unlike the global financial crisis that derived from a financial sector, this pandemic-caused crisis is shock in real economy, both on the demand and supply side. During previous crisis, especially during global financial crisis, most governments responded with austerity measures and fiscal consolidation. This time it is different. Governments worldwide approved additional expenditures, tax cuts, government bond issuance and borrowing in order to mitigate economic consequences of the looming crisis. One of the pandemic’s result is dramatic increase of indebtedness that could affect efficiency of fiscal and monetary responses created before to fight against crisis. This sudden and strong COVID-10 shock especially effects developing countries and emerging markets, but also advanced countries with already limited fiscal space. The COVID-19 pandemic-caused crisis evoked again fear of debt crisis and expanded a number of countries with indebtedness problems. Bosnia and Herzegovina as developing country with complex state structure and its own macroeconomic, political, institutional problems is not spared of negative effects of the pandemic. In order to save economy when recovery from the previous crisis is still in swing, Bosnia and Herzegovina did emergency measures to support economy. Increase of government spending in addition to reduced tax revenues have created the need for budget rebalance and additional borrowing. The aim of this work is to show macroeconomic situation and problems in the EU countries, countries in the region and especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina before the pandemic as well as current problems, their reactions to COVID-19 pandemic and necessary financial support that could cause increase of indebtedness
