Megatrends 2022: Implikationen für den Einkauf

    Get PDF

Women in Oceanography : a web site for students, teachers, scientists, and the general public

The definitive version was published in Oceanography 18, 1 (2005): 47-50, doi: 10.5670/oceanog.2005.70.In 1999 as the millennium was drawing to a close, we decided that the time was right to introduce a new type of web site highlighting the contributions that women are making to marine science. We envisioned a web site where women considering careers in oceanography could read about the experiences of successful women and learn from their choices; that would convey the excitement of groundbreaking research in oceanography and serve as a resource for teachers, scientists, and the general public; and that would celebrate a group of remarkable women and bring a human face to those working in marine science

A fabrication guide for planar silicon quantum dot heterostructures

    Get PDF
We describe important considerations to create top-down fabricated planar quantum dots in silicon, often not discussed in detail in literature. The subtle interplay between intrinsic material properties, interfaces and fabrication processes plays a crucial role in the formation of electrostatically defined quantum dots. Processes such as oxidation, physical vapor deposition and atomic-layer deposition must be tailored in order to prevent unwanted side effects such as defects, disorder and dewetting. In two directly related manuscripts written in parallel we use techniques described in this work to create depletion-mode quantum dots in intrinsic silicon, and low-disorder silicon quantum dots defined with palladium gates. While we discuss three different planar gate structures, the general principles also apply to 0D and 1D systems, such as self-assembled islands and nanowires.Comment: Accepted for publication in Nanotechnology. 31 pages, 12 figure

Generalization of Conditioned Contextual Anxiety and the Modulatory Effects of Anxiety Sensitivity

Anxiety patients overgeneralize fear responses, possibly because they cannot distinguish between cues never been associated with a threat (i.e., safe) and threat-associated cues. However, as contexts and not cues are discussed as the relevant triggers for prolonged anxiety responses characterizing many anxiety disorders, we speculated that it is rather overgeneralization of contextual anxiety, which constitutes a risk factor for anxiety disorders. To this end, we investigated generalization of conditioned contextual anxiety and explored modulatory effects of anxiety sensitivity, a risk factor for anxiety disorders. Fifty-five participants underwent context conditioning in a virtual reality paradigm. On Day 1 (acquisition), participants received unpredictable mildly painful electric stimuli (unconditioned stimulus, US) in one virtual office (anxiety context, CTX+), but never in a
