A new triclinic modification of the pyrochlore-type KOs2O6 superconductor

A new modification of KOs2O6, the representative of a new structural type (Pearson symbol aP18, a=5.5668(1)A, b=6.4519(2)A, c=7.2356(2)A, space group P-1, no.2) was synthesized employing high pressure technique. Its structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure can be described as two OsO6 octahedral chains relating to each other through inversion and forming big voids with K atoms inside. Quantum chemical calculations were performed on the novel compound and structurally related cubic compound. High-pressure X-ray study showed that cubic KOs2O6 phase was stable up to 32.5(2) GPa at room temperature.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures,6 tables. Accepted for J. Solid State Che

Morphology and crystal structure of a recombinant silk-like molecule, SLP4

Morphology and crystal structure of a recombinant silk-like molecule, SLP4, were studied. Wide angle x-ray scattering (WAXS) and electron diffraction revealed that SLP4 lyophilized powder and thin films were isomorphic with the silk I crystal structure. Transmission electron microscopy of SLP4 thin films demonstrated a morphology of flat, variable width, crystallites that may aggregate in an epitaxial manner. Theoretical diffraction patterns from silk I crystal structure models were critically compared with SLP4 WAXS data. The analysis concluded that while the crankshaft model is capable of describing details of the SLP4 structural data well, the out-of-register model does not explain the experimental results. In particular, the predicted intensities of the crystallographic reflections for the out-of-register model are inconsistent with the SLP4 WAXS data. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. BODIPY dyes functionalized with 2-(2-dimethylaminophenyl) ethanol moieties as selective OFF-ON fluorescent chemodosimeters for the nerve agent mimics DCNP and DFP

[EN] Two OFF-ON fluorescent chemodosimeters based on a BODIPY core for the detection of nerve agent mimics have been synthesized. Their reactivity towards diethylcyanophosphonate (DCNP) and diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP) has been tested in organic and aqueous phase. These chemodosimeters selectively detect the nerve agent mimics with good LODs. The chemodosimeters hold their sensing properties on solid supports, allowing the preparation of a hand held sensing kit. The sensing in solid-liquid phase has been demonstrated. The X-ray structure of compound 2 has been resolved. We thank the Spanish Government and the European FEDER funds (project MAT2012-38429-C04-02 and 01).
