Krieg als Norm?: Russlands patriotische Erinnerung und heroische Diskurse

World War II remains to this day the great determining historical event for the collective memory of the Russian people. This fact is illustrated in the omnipresent memorialization of the war, as well as in the transmission and performance of the “Victory in War” myth. Symbols of memory are experiencing a revival, as can be seen in the creation of new memorials, documentaries, concerts, literary texts and video clips, as well as in consumer goods and advertising. A recent example of this can be seen in how the Battle of Stalingrad is memorialized, and the memory production surrounding the Great Patriotic War of 1812. This article presents the different memory types used by the Russian state to remember the war. The focus of this analysis is on the linguistic tools used to evaluate and normalize the war

23. JungslavistInnen-Treffen vom 18. bis 20. September 2014 am Institut für Slavistik der TU Dresden

Vom 18. bis 20. September 2014 kam die Gruppe der JungslavistInnen zu ihrem 23. Treffen in Dresden zusammen. Die Tagung, die am Institut für Slavistik an der TU Dresden stattfand, beinhaltete ein breites Spektrum an Beiträgen aus der synchronen und diachronen Linguistik, Semantik und Pragmatik, Kontaktlinguistik und Kleinsprachenforschung. Präsentiert wurden außerdem Arbeitsergebnisse aus den Bereichen der Schriftlinguistik, genderorientierten Sprachwissenschaft sowie kulturwissenschaftlichen Linguistik. Die ausgewählten Aspekte und Problematiken der linguistischen Forschung wurden an zahlreichen Beispielen aus der Ost-, West- und Südslavia illustriert

Between Glamorous Patriotism and Reality-TV Aesthetics: Political Communication, Popular Culture, and the Invective Turn in Trump’s United States and Putin’s Russia

This article proceeds from the observation that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin—two politicians frequently correlated and compared since Trump’s bid for the Presidency—have been remarkably successful in mobilizing support for their politics and in seemingly immunizing their rhetorics against vernacular critique. To work toward an understanding of this phenomenon, we propose to look at how political communication by and around the two politicians draws on forms and venues of popular culture. Both contexts, we will argue, have developed new strategies for the instrumentalization of popular culture, strategies that, while actualized differently in the two settings, revolve around an ‘invective turn’ in political communication—a radicalization of the familiar nationalist rhetoric of ‘us versus them’ that seems specifically fueled by pop-cultural forms. To explore this traffic between pop and politics, this article puts into conversation two case studies: On the one hand, of Trump’s campaign speeches which, we contend, symbolically organize around the logic of agôn—of the competitive game—as it has coagulated in the reality-tv genre of the gamedoc. On the other hand, we look at (state-controlled) pop music in the Russian genre of Ėstrada which, thus our argument, advertises a distinct form of patriotism through the principle of ‘glamour.’ Glamour, in Putin’s Russia, operates simultaneously as a style and as an ideology of self-glorification. The article will outline how reality tv’s logic of agôn and patriotic pop music’s aesthetics of glamour each fuel a qualitatively new orientation of political discourse toward the aesthetically charged, affect-saturated denigration of others and valorization of self

Bergmann, Anka (Hrsg.): Fachdidaktik Russisch: Buchbesprechung

Kompendien und Einführungen zur Fachdidaktik des Englischen, Französischen oder auch des Deutschen sind schon lange eine Selbstverständlichkeit. Für das Russische gilt das im deutschsprachigen Raum leider nicht. Die vorliegende Publikation ist deshalb sehr zu begrüßen, und ganz zurecht stellt die Herausgeberin Anka Bergmann im Vorwort fest, dass mit diesem von namhaften Fachdidaktikerinnen und Fachdidaktikern des Russischen gemeinschaftlich erstellten Band ein echtes Desiderat im deutschsprachigen Raum beseitigt wurde. Neben zahlreichen allgemeinfachdidaktischen Fragestellungen, wie sie besonders im Teil II behandelt werden, werden Spezifika des Russischunterrichts angesprochen wie etwa die Integration von Schülern mit russischsprachigem Hintergrund im Russischunterricht oder die Geschichte und der gegenwärtige Status des Russischunterrichts im deutschsprachigen Raum
