Limits of complete equilibration of fragments produced in central Au on Au collisions at intermediate energies
Experimental data related to fragment production in central Au on Au
collisions were analyzed in the framework of a modified statistical model which
considers cluster production both prior and at the equilibrated stage. The
analysis provides limits to the number of nucleons and to the temperature of
the equilibrated source. The rather moderate temperatures obtained from
experimental double-yield ratios of d,t,3He and 4He are in agreement with the
model calculations. A phenomenological relation was established between the
collective flow and the chemical temperature in these reactions. It was shown
that dynamical mechanisms of fragment production, e.g. coalescence, dominate at
high energies. It is demonstrated that coalescence may be consistent with
chemical equilibrium between the produced fragments. The different meaning of
chemical and kinetic temperatures is discussed.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures, accepted at EPJ
Excitation and decay of projectile-like fragments formed in dissipative peripheral collisions at intermediate energies
Projectile-like fragments (PLF:15<=Z<=46) formed in peripheral and
mid-peripheral collisions of 114Cd projectiles with 92Mo nuclei at E/A=50 MeV
have been detected at very forward angles, 2.1 deg.<=theta_lab<=4.2 deg.
Calorimetric analysis of the charged particles observed in coincidence with the
PLF reveals that the excitation of the primary PLF is strongly related to its
velocity damping. Furthermore, for a given V_PLF*, its excitation is not
related to its size, Z_PLF*. For the largest velocity damping, the excitation
energy attained is large, approximately commensurate with a system at the

Antideuteron yield at the AGS and coalescence implications
We present Experiment 864's measurement of invariant antideuteron yields in
11.5A GeV/c Au + Pt collisions. The analysis includes 250 million triggers
representing 14 billion 10% central interactions sampled for events with high
mass candidates. We find (1/2 pi pt) d^(2)N/dydpt = 3.5 +/- 1.5 (stat.)
+0.9,-0.5 (sys.) x 10^(-8) GeV^(-2)c^(2) for 1.8=0.35 GeV/c
(y(cm)=1.6) and 3.7 +/- 2.7 (stat.) +1.4,-1.5 (sys.) x 10^(-8) GeV^(-2)c^(2)
for 1.4=0.26 GeV/c, and a coalescence parameter B2-bar of 4.1 +/-
2.9 (stat.) +2.3,-2.4 (sys.) x 10^(-3) GeV^(2)c^(-3). Implications for the

Comparative Study of Multifragmentation of Gold Nuclei Induced by Relativistic Protons, He, and C
Multiple emission of intermediate-mass fragments has been studied for the
collisions of p, He and C on Au with the setup FASA. The mean
IMF multiplicities (for the events with at least one IMF) are saturating at the
value of for the incident energies above 6 GeV. The observed IMF
multiplicities cannot be described in a two-stage scenario, a fast cascade
followed by a statistical multifragmentation. Agreement with the measured IMF
multiplicities is obtained by introducing an intermediate phase and modifying
empirically the excitation energies and masses of the remnants.
The angular distributions and energy spectra from the p-induced collisions
are in agreement with the scenario of ``thermal'' multifragmentation of a hot
and diluted target spectator. In the case of C+Au(22.4 GeV) and
He(14.6 GeV)+Au collisions, deviations from a pure thermal break-up are
seen in the energy spectra of the emitted fragments, which are harder than
those both from model calculations and from the measured ones for p-induced
collisions. This difference is attributed to a collective flow.Comment: 33 pages 15 figures, accepted in Nucl. Phys.
Comparison of Source Images for protons, 's and 's in 6 AGeV Au+Au collisions
Source images are extracted from two-particle correlations constructed from
strange and non-strange hadrons produced in 6 AGeV Au + Au collisions. Very
different source images result from pp vs p vs
correlations. These observations suggest important differences in the
space-time emission histories for protons, pions and neutral strange baryons
produced in the same events
Near-threshold production of the multi-strange hyperon
The yield for the multi-strange hyperon has been measured in 6 AGeV
Au+Au collisions via reconstruction of its decay products and
, the latter also being reconstructed from its daughter tracks of
and p. The measurement is rather close to the threshold for
production and therefore provides an important test of model predictions. The
measured yield for and are compared for several
centralities. In central collisions the yield is found to be in
excellent agreement with statistical and transport model predictions,
suggesting that multi-strange hadron production approaches chemical equilibrium
in high baryon density nuclear matter.Comment: Submitted to PR
Laying the groundwork at the AGS: Recent results from experiment E895
The E895 Collaboration at the Brookhaven AGS has performed a systematic
investigation of Au+Au collisions at 2-8 AGeV, using a large-acceptance Time
Projection Chamber. In addition to extensive measurements of particle flow,
spectra, two-particle interferometry, and strangeness production, we have
performed novel hybrid analyses, including azimuthally-sensitive pion HBT,
extraction of the six-dimensional pion phasespace density, and a first

Charged Pion Production in 2 to 8 AGeV Central Au+Au Collisions
Momentum spectra of charged pions over nearly full rapidity coverage from
target to beam rapidity have been measured in the 0-5% most central Au+Au
collisions in the beam energy range from 2 to 8 AGeV by the E895 Experiment.
Using a thermal parameterization to fit the transverse mass spectra, rapidity
density distributions are extracted. The observed spectra are compared with
predictions from the RQMD v2.3 cascade model and also to a thermal model
including longitudinal flow. The total 4 yields of the charged pions are

The energy dependence of flow in Ni induced collisions from 400 to 1970A MeV
We study the energy dependence of collective (hydrodynamic-like) nuclear
matter flow in 400-1970 A MeV Ni+Au and 1000-1970 A MeV Ni+Cu reactions. The
flow increases with energy, reaches a maximum, and then gradually decreases at
higher energies. A way of comparing the energy dependence of flow values for
different projectile-target mass combinations is introduced, which demonstrates
