    Comprehensive, developmental school counseling programming has been associated with numerous benefits for students and is considered current best practice. A qualitative, grounded theory study was conducted to investigate eight professional school counselors employed across grade level, geographic setting, and region within the United States. This article presents this research and the emergent model for successful comprehensive, developmental school counseling program implementation. Implications for school counselor education and practice, as well as future research, are discussed

    Connections Through Clubs: Collaboration and Coordination of a Schoolwide Program

    The Connections Through Clubs program provides all students with the opportunity to participate in a small-group extracurricular activity and mentoring experience led by school faculty, staff, and community members during the school day throughout the academic year. This schoolwide program was developed in response to identified school needs and as a means to facilitate a strengths-enhancing school environment and to promote the developmental competencies of all students, both of which have been linked to academic and personal success. The purpose of this article is to describe the inception, implementation, and preliminary evaluation of the Connections Through Clubs program. In addition, the school counselor\u27s collaboration, coordination, and advocacy efforts to implement this program are highlighted

    Leadership during a racial microaggression on campus

    The study aimed at understanding students’ perspectives on university response to a racial microaggression on a campus. Responses were collected in the form of an online survey and analyzed using qualitative data analysis to identify themes from students’ perspective. Insights about how students processed the incident were gained. Although students were thankful of the university response, concern for another incident, and how leadership will equip students to handle situations lingers. Implications for educators are provided

    Examining Discrepancies Between Actual and Preferred Practice of School Counselors

    his study of elementary, middle, and high school counselors (N = 361) investigated the discrepancies, and the factors predictive of the discrepancies, between the actual practice and preferred practice in interventions associated with a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program. Results indicated that school counselors preferred to spend their time in accord with best practice. Subsequently, selected professional, employment, self-efficacy, and school climate variables were found to predict differences between actual and preferred practice
