The digital transformation of organizations is making workplace collaboration more and more powerful and work always "observable"; however, the informational and managerial potential of the generated data is still largely unutilized in Human Resource Management (HRM). Our research, conducted in collaboration with business engineers and economists, aims at exploring the relationship between digital work behaviors and employee attitudes. This paper is a work-in-progress contribution that presents a preliminary phase of data analysis we performed on a collection of Enterprise Collaboration Software (ECS) data. In the exploratory data analysis step, we analyze data in their original table format and elaborate it according to the user who performed the action and the performed action. Then, we move to a graph representation in order to make explicit the interaction between users and the objects of their actions. Finally, we introduce the concept of employee-attitude-oriented pattern as a mean to derive significant views over the overall graph and discuss Social Network Analysis (SNA) approaches that can be exploited for our purposes

Creating a Stir: The role of Word of Mouth in Reputation Management in the Context of Festivals

This qualitative case study examines the role of word of mouth (WOM) in reputation management in the context of networked festival productions. Particularly, it explores the ways in which WOM marketing (WOMM) is employed in festival marketing and brand-building. The paper links reputation and WOM to the concept of cultural branding with the aim of providing a framework for analysing how a festival's reputation shapes the creation of a culturally meaningful message. The empirical analysis is based on a multiple-case study involving three Finnish festivals hosted in the city of Pori: the Porispere Festival, the International Pori Jazz Festival and the International Lainuojattomat Theatre Festival. The cases represent festivals of different sizes and varying organisational structure, content and life cycle. The findings indicate that the meaning and use of WOMM vary depending on key constitutive differences that affect the nature of the festivals? reputation and brand-building processes. Although the importance of external and internal stakeholders in these processes is evident, it seems that when the power of networks is recognised as crucial for festivals, WOM has a leveraging role in reputation management and brand-building. In these processes, the value of the festival leader's persona becomes crucial

3-D Multistrands Inductor Modeling: Influence of Complex Geometrical Arrangements

    No full text
International audienceWe study multistrands inductors in the context of high-frequency induction processes. They present the advantage of reducing Joule losses compared with solid inductors. We remind why that type of cable seems to be promising and what electromagnetic effects are already identified. We have to understand precisely what happens inside the inductor. Numerical simulation of the electromagnetic behavior of these objects is complicated due to the complexity of their 3-D geometry and to the size of the generated numerical system. We have developed a 3-D electromagnetic software based on an integral methods using classical Biot and Savart law. We applied this model for the simulation of multistrands cables with helical arrangement of strands. Execution time is reduced by the parallelization of the system building and the solver. We present some results obtained with 3-D simulations using integral methods for different configurations

Electromagnetic modeling with 3D integral method

International audienceThe present work focus on numerical modeling of electromagnetic phenomenon in the inductive processes. Our objective is to be able to model 3D configurations, taking into account high number of objects, small space between active elements of the installation and multi-scale. To achieve this goal we develop an integral method with parallel computing. The obtained results show the efficiency of this approach

Work datafication and digital work behavior analysis as a source of social good

The digital transformation of organizations is boosting workplace networking and collaboration while making it 'observable' with unprecedented timeliness and detail. However, the informational and managerial potential of work datafication is still largely unutilized in Human Resource Management (HRM) and its social benefits, both at the individual and the organizational level, remain largely unexplored. Our research focuses on the relationship between digitally tracked work behaviors and employee attitudes and, in so doing, it explores work datafication as a source of social good. As part of a wider research program, this paper presents some data analysis we performed on a collection of Enterprise Collaboration Software (ECS) data, in search for promising correlations between behavioral and relational (digital) work patterns and employee attitudes. To this end, we transformed the digital actions performed by 106 employees during a one year period into a graph representation to analyze data under two different points of view: the individual (behavioral) perspective, according to the user who performed the action and the action undertaken, and the social (relational) perspective, making explicit the interactions between users and the objects of their actions. Different employees' rankings are thus derived and correlated with their attitudes. We discuss the obtained results and their benefits in terms of perspective social good for both the company and the employe

Congruence of the topography of intracranial calcifications and epileptic foci

Nodular intracranial calcifications (NIC) are frequent findings in CT scans of epileptic patients in countries where granulomatous central nervous disease such as neurocysticercosis is endemic. In 34 consecutive epileptic patients with NIC submitted teo EEG, CT and CSF analysis, the correlation between the electroclinical localization of the focus and the topography of the NIC was studied. Twenty-nine patients had partial (Group I) and 5 had primarily generalized seizures (Group II). Twenty group I and 1 group II patients showed abnormal EEGs. CSF abnormalities consisted of increased protein content (n=3) and positive Weinberg's reaction (n=2). In 2 cases, viable neurocysticercotic vesicles were seen. Twenty-one patients had single NICs. No correlation could be stablished in group II patients. Within group 1,15 patients had a positive and 14 a negative correlation. Sixty-six percent of the patients with single NICs had negative correlations. These findings strongly suggest that the calcifications themselves are not the epileptogenic lesions in at least 50% of the studied cases
