576-581Eco-friendly technologies are crucial for firms to sustain their competitiveness as well as properly cope with international agreement which encourages reducing greenhouse gases. Electric vehicle (EV), in terms of this view, is significant since it would be dominant mobilities in the future by allowing firms to have competitiveness and solving for environmental problems. Hence, it is pivotal for firms to commercialize relevant technologies. In order to this, we used patent analysis to identify firms’ strategic characters and core technology in electric vehicle industry. The analysis of strategic characters was carried out via patent portfolio analysis by calculating patent indicators regarding technology commercialization. Plus, network analysis was carried out to identify the core technologies of firms. With the two results, the final strategic framework for commercialization was established. The framework could be used for choosing appropriate collaboration partners and avoiding useless competition

A Comparative Study on the Impact of the Capabilities of Manufacturing and Service Firms on Export Performance: Focusing on the Interaction Effect of R&D

    Get PDF
128–131This paper empirically examined the impact of firm capabilities and the interaction effect of R&D on the export performance of service firms in comparison with manufacturing firms. To this end, a total of 1,968 Korean firms were analyzed: 243 from service and 1,725 from manufacturing, and two-stage analysis was performed using multiple regression and hierarchical regression analysis. This research confirmed that network and customer capabilities played critical roles in the internationalization of service firms and R&D positively interacted with entrepreneurship and customer capabilities for export performance. These findings suggest valuable policy considerations for government trade policy and academic motivation for further research on the capabilities and R&D of service firms

Economic Ripple Effect Analysis of New Converging Industry: Focusing on Inter-Industrial Analysis of Fintech Industry in South Korea, China and the United States

116–121The Fintech industry is the convergence of the financial industry and the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) industry. It not only replaces the services provided by traditional financial services such as remittances, settlements, and asset management, but also creates new industries combined with ICT technology such as Cloud funding, P2P, and Internet Professional Bank. Therefore, this research focuses on the economic ripple effect of the Fintech industry on the national economy by inter-industrial analysis. At the same time, in order to learn the different circumstances of Fintech industry worldwide, this study conducted comparative research on Fintech leading countries in the United States and China with South Korea. All the economic ripple effects of South Korea, China, and the United States Fintech industry are relatively low among all industries, and the industrial characteristics are analyzed to be 'intermediate primary production' type industry. This study, as the first attempt, analyzes the current economic impact of Fintech in each country, and inspires future development direction of Fintech industrial policy

Cost Function Estimation Before and After Regulatory Reform: Evidence from Korea’s CPA Service Industry

918-925This paper aims to examine how the cost structure of certified public accountant firms changed after the accounting reform of 2005. Korea enacted various accounting reform acts adopting Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2005. Our sample comprises 1,230 firm-year observations from 1997 to 2012. The sample period is decomposed into two sub-periods: pre-reform (1997–2004) and post-reform (2005–2012) periods. We estimate a multi-product translog cost function to determine whether there are significant changes in the economies of scale during the pre- and post- reform periods. The estimated cost function suggests that overall and product-specific economies of scale prevailed during the full sample, pre- and post-reform periods. However, overall economies of scale lessened after the accounting reform and the economies of scale seemed to be depleted for the larger firms during the full and post-reform periods. As for product-specific scale economies after the reform, the marginal costs of producing Audit and Accounting increased, whereas those of producing Tax services declined. The economies of scale in business advisory services remained constant before and after the accounting reform. The results gleaned from this study may provide CPA firms with managerial implications regarding the changes in cost structure after the accounting reform

Innovative converged service and its adoption, use and diffusion: a holistic approach to diffusion of innovations, combining adoption-diffusion and use-diffusion paradigms

This study takes a holistic approach to understanding the diffusion of IPTV services by combining the adoption-diffusion model and the use-diffusion model of innovation. IPTV service, a leading converged application that couples media content with telecom services, was recently launched commercially in Korea. We created a structural model of adoption-diffusion, using the perceived ease-of-use and usefulness of TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) as mediating variables, and a structural model of usediffusion, with the rate of use and the variety of use as mediating variables. To empirically analyze these models, non-users of IPTV were surveyed using the adoptiondiffusion model to identify factors influencing their intention to subscribe to the service. Meanwhile, users of IPTV were surveyed using the use-diffusion model to determine the factors that influence their satisfaction with the service and their intention to re-use it. Under the adoption-diffusion model, we found that trialability, household innovativeness and perceived risk were the determinants of user satisfaction with IPTV, and perceived ease-of-use, the mediating factor. Under the use-diffusion model, complementarity and communication were shown to be the determinants of users’ satisfaction with IPTV, and variety of use, the mediating factor. We also found that consumers’ intentions to re-use IPTV was strongly influenced by its relative advantages and perceived risks
