    宮沢賢治と浜田広介の語法に見る方言からの影響

    岩手大学Iwate University近代は「言文一致体」・「標準語」を整備し普及させようとしていた過渡的な時代である。そのため,当時,それらの言語とは異なる方言を用いていた地方出身者は,標準語を用いる際にも母語である方言の影響を受けた言葉づかいをしている可能性があると考え,近代の東北地方出身の童話作家の語法について,彼らの言葉づかいの特徴と方言との関連について考察した。資料としては,宮沢賢治の『注文の多い料理店』,浜田広介の『椋鳥の夢』を全文データ化してコーパスとして利用した。その上で,文法的な要素に着目し,格助詞・接続助詞等の一部について,用法や使用頻度・分布などを既存の近代語のコーパスと比較し,その特徴を明らかにすることを試みた。また,『方言文法全国地図』などの方言資料から,彼らの言葉づかいと方言との関連性を探った。その結果,格助詞「へ」の用法・頻度については,方言の助詞「さ」の存在が関連している可能性があることを指摘した。また,接続助詞の形式,限定を表す表現などにも方言からの影響がある可能性を指摘した。The early modern era (usually taken to be 1868-1945 in Japan) was a transition period during which colloquial standard Japanese developed through a process of unification of the spoken and written styles. The basis of this standard Japanese was Tokyo dialect. In this respect, it is known that those who were not from the capital found it difficult to adapt their local dialects to the standard language. One can therefore assume that some dialect interference may be observed in the works of writers of the time who came from provincial areas. The study aims to illustrate such dialect interference in the usage of standard Japanese among people from the Tohoku region. For this purpose I analyze data from my original corpus of the works of Kenji Miyazawa (Iwate Pref.) and Hirosuke Hamada (Yamagata Pref.), both known as writers of children\u27s stories, as well as from other corpora of modern Japanese for comparison.     Outer retinal circular structures in patients with Bietti crystalline retinopathy.

    [Background] : Bietti crystalline retinopathy (BCR) is a distinct retinal degenerative disease characterised by retinal degeneration with many yellow–white crystals located mainly at the posterior pole area. Using spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), the structural change in retina was investigated. [Methods] : Patients diagnosed with BCR (n=12), retinitis pigmentosa (RP, n=292) and cone dystrophy (n=16) were included in this study. The authors mainly examined fundus photographs and SD-OCT, infrared and fundus autofluorescence images of these patients. [Results]: Crystalline deposits were detected in portions of the retinal pigment epithelium that lacked patchy degenerated lesions. SD-OCT revealed that most of the observed crystalline deposits were located adjacent to the inner side of retinal pigment epithelium layer. The change most frequently observed was circular hyper-refractive structures in the outer nuclear layer. Although the structures were considered to be previously reported “tubular formation” or “tubular degeneration”, we determined that many of these circular structures were slices of spherical structures and were typically noted in areas suspected of ongoing active degeneration. [Conclusion] : BCR has characteristic structures in the outer nuclear layer. Although the incidence of the structure varies, it may be characteristic of retinal degeneration and can be found in many retinal degenerative diseases

    A Case of Migration of a Hydrogel Spacer for Radiotherapy into the Pulmonary Artery

    A 67-year-old man was referred to our hospital for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Multidisciplinary discussion led to intensity-modulated radiotherapy preceded by hormone therapy. Before radiotherapy, a biodegradable hydrogel spacer (HS) was placed between the prostate and rectum to reduce radiation injury risk. Three weeks postplacement, pelvic magnetic resonance imaging revealed HS migration into the pelvic vein. Subsequent whole-body contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) revealed HS migration into the pulmonary artery. The patient showed no symptoms or clinical signs. Radiotherapy was completed uneventfully. Complete absorption of the migrated HS was confirmed using CECT images 5 months postplacement

    Cellular DBP and E4BP4 proteins are critical for determining the period length of the circadian oscillator

    AbstractThe phenotypes of mice carrying clock gene mutations have been critical to understanding the mammalian clock function. However, behavior does not necessarily reflect cell-autonomous clock phenotypes, because of the hierarchical dominance of the central clock. We performed cell-based siRNA knockdown and cDNA overexpression and monitored rhythm using bioluminescent reporters of clock genes. We found that knockdown of DBP, D-box positive regulator, in our model led to a short-period phenotype, whereas overexpressing of DBP produced a long-period rhythm when compared to controls. Furthermore, knockdown and overexpressing of E4BP4, D-box negative regulator, led to an opposite effect of DBP. Our experiments demonstrated that D-box regulators play a crucial role in determining the period length of Per1 and Per2 promoter-driven circadian rhythms in Rat-1 fibroblasts

    Pathophysiology of unilateral asterixis due to thalamic lesion.

    [Objective]:Unilateral asterixis has been reported in patients with thalamic lesion. This study aims at elucidating the pathophysiology of the thalamic asterixis. [Methods]:Two cases with unilateral asterixis caused by an infarction in the lateral thalamus were studied by analysing the asterixis-related cortical activities, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for motor cortex excitability and probabilistic diffusion tractography for the thalamo-cortical connectivity. [Results]:Averaging of electroencephalogram (EEG) time-locked to the asterixis revealed rhythmic oscillations of a beta band at the central area contralateral to the affected hand. TMS revealed a decrease in the motor evoked potential (MEP) amplitude and a prolongation of the silent period (SP). The anatomical mapping of connections between the thalamus and cortical areas using a diffusion-weighted image (DWI) showed that the lateral thalamus involved by the infarction was connected to the premotor cortex, the primary motor cortex (M1) and the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) of the corresponding hemisphere. [Conclusions]:The thalamic asterixis is mediated by the sensorimotor cortex, which is subjected to excessive inhibition as a result of the thalamic lesion involving the ventral lateral nucleus. [Significance]:This is the first demonstration of participation of the sensorimotor cortex in the generation of asterixis due to the lateral thalamic lesion

    Analysis of Acute Transfusion Reactions and Their Occurrence Times

    Acute transfusion reactions (ATRs) are significantly relevant to the morbidity and mortality of patients. ATRs are mostly not severe and rarely cause severe conditions, including anaphylactic shock. The aim of this study was to clarify the frequency of ATRs and the time of event occurrence. A total of 18,745 transfusions were administered to 11,718 patients during a 3-year period. Adverse reactions including at least one sign or symptom were collected through a report system in 143 of 2,478 (5.7%) platelet concentrate transfusions, 105 of 6,629 (1.6%) red blood cell component transfusions and 51 of 2,307 (2.2%) fresh frozen plasma transfusions. Allergic signs and symptoms accounted for 70% of all adverse events. Severe signs and symptoms were observed in 7.1% of patients. These events appeared significantly earlier than those of non-severe signs and symptoms (median time 20 min vs 100 min, P < 0.05). For patients who have had repetitive transfusion-associated adverse events, preventive treatments for adverse events should be proactively promoted

    To the Editor, Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in elderly males. The current guidelines recommend the use of a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor (5ARI) to treat males with moderate-to-severe LUTS and an enlarged prostate. Combination therapy with an alpha blocker and a 5ARI has proven effective at ameliorating LUTS and reducing the total prostate volume (TPV) and the risk of the disease progression
