    Model Building of Metal Oxide Surfaces and Vibronic Coupling Density as a Reactivity Index: Regioselectivity of CO2_2 Adsorption on Ag-loaded Ga2_2O3_3

    The step-by-step hydrogen-terminated (SSHT) model is proposed as a model for the surfaces of metal oxides. Using this model, it is found that the vibronic coupling density (VCD) can be employed as a reactivity index for surface reactions. As an example, the regioselectivity of CO2_2 adsorption on the Ag-loaded Ga2_2O3_3 photocatalyst surface is investigated based on VCD analysis. The cluster model constructed by the SSHT approach reasonably reflects the electronic structures of the Ga2_2O3_3 surface. The geometry of CO2_2 adsorbed on the Ag-loaded Ga2_2O3_3 cluster has a bent structure, which is favorable for its photocatalytic reduction to CO.Comment: 18 pages, 11 figure

    Fabrication of Apatite Films on Ti Substrates of Simple and Complicated Shapes by Using Stable Solutions of Ca Complex

    Titanium (Ti) is known as the most popular implant materials. In addition, the coating technology of hydroxyapatite (HA) or carbonate-containing apatite (CA) on Ti substrates having various shapes has been interested from the viewpoint for improvement of implant’s osteoconductivity. The fabrication of apatite coatings on metallic substrates has been investigated by several techniques. We developed novel wet processes using some stable solutions in which Ca complexes and phosphate ion dissolve simultaneously. The CA film can be deposited homogeneously on substrates, Ti plate and Ti fiber mesh, using a stable precursor solution involving a Ca2+ complex of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Another stable aqueous solution was prepared by the addition of phosphoric acid to a calcium hydrogen carbonate solution. The solution is adequate to be sprayed facilely onto a Ti plate by using an airbrush. It is important that the fabricated apatite films by the spray process have the characteristic network structures. The materials with these CA films are nontoxic and have the excellent bonding ability to bone tissues

    Similarity and dissimilarity of conjugate relationships of Pi magnetic pulsations observed during excellent similar auroras at the conjugate stations, Tjornes in Iceland and Syowa Station in Antarctica are examined. The study revealed that characteristic Pi pulsations, Pi 2 pulsations and impulsive Pi 1 pulsations were prominently observed with a close relationship to aurora activities. During the substorm growth phase they showed a good similarity between the conjugate stations. How ever, at the onset of substorm expansion, the appearance of Pi pulsations showed prominent dissimilarity between the conjugate stations, suggesting that there might be some asymmetry of the ionosphere and magnetosphere conditions in between the northern and the southern hemispheres

However, the roles played by Wnt/β-catenin and the spatiotemporal regulation of its activity throughout life, including during aging, are not fully understood. To address these issues, we introduced a Wnt/β-catenin signaling sensitive reporter into African turquoise killifish (Nothobranchius furzeri), a naturally ultra-short-lived fish that allows for the analysis of its whole life within a short period of time. Using this reporter killifish, we unraveled the previously unidentified dynamics of Wnt/β-catenin signaling during development and aging. Using the reporter strain, we detected Wnt/β-catenin activity in actively developing tissues as reported in previous reports, but also observed activation and attenuation of Wnt/β-catenin activity during embryonic reaggregation and diapause, respectively. During the aging process, the reporter was activated in the choroidal layer and liver, but its expression decreased in the kidneys. In addition, the reporter also revealed that aging disrupts the spatial regulation and intensity control of Wnt/β-catenin activity seen during fin regeneration, which interferes with precise regeneration. Thus, the employed reporter killifish is a highly useful model for investigating the dynamics of Wnt/β-catenin signaling during both the developmental and aging process
