    ANALYZING THE ROMANIAN RESIDENTIAL MARKET UNDER THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS EFFECT

    As the financial crisis effects continue to spread around the world, Romania is no exception to the global economic climate, as the country continues its attempts to better integrate into the European Union. To what extent is the Romanian residential market affected by the United State financial crisis? What are the causes and effects of the Romanian crisis? How has the crisis evolved so far and our prognostics regarding it? These are some of the questions to which we answer in the present article. We will take into consideration factors such as the residential market of both new and old products, comparing their evolution up until March 2009 and studying their prices, units sold, and latest projects focused on our nation’s capital.     Determination of Hexavalent Chromium (Cr(VI)) Concentrations via Ion Chromatography and UV-Vis Spectrophotometry in Samples Collected from Nacogdoches Wastewater Treatment Plant, East Texas (USA)

    The concentration of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), a toxic environmental pollutant and carcinogen, was determined in samples collected from Nacogdoches Wastewater Treatment Plant (NWWTP) using ion chromatography and UV-visible spectrophotometry (IC, UV-Vis). On reaction with 1,5-diphenylcarbazide (DPC) Cr+6 forms a 1,5-diphenylcarbazide-Cr(VI) complex, which is then analyzed at 530nm and 540nm, respectively. Via ion chromatography Cr(VI) concentrations were in the range of 0.00190 ± 0.0020 and 0.0010 ± 0.0006ppm at the influent and effluent, respectively. With the use of standard addition wastewater samples were spiked with a 0.5ppm Cr(VI) standard of various amounts and subsequently analyzed with UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The spiked concentrations gave Cr(VI) concentrations in the range of 0.0090 ± 0.0060ppm and 0.0040 ± 0.0061ppmattheinfluentandinfluentwastewater,respectively.ThedeterminedCr(VI)concentrationsthroughtheion chromatography and UV-Vis spectrophotometry are below the maximum USEPA contaminant concentration of 0.1ppm.     This paper is concerned with systems with control whose state evolution is described by linear skew-product semiflows. The connection between uniform exponential stability of a linear skewproduct semiflow and the stabilizability of the associated system is presented. The relationship between the concepts of exact controllability and complete stabilizability of general control systems is studied.     A gap analysis of Internet-of-Things platforms

    We are experiencing an abundance of Internet-of-Things (IoT) middleware solutions that provide connectivity for sensors and actuators to the Internet. To gain a widespread adoption, these middleware solutions, referred to as platforms, have to meet the expectations of different players in the IoT ecosystem, including device providers, application developers, and end-users, among others. In this article, we evaluate a representative sample of these platforms, both proprietary and open-source, on the basis of their ability to meet the expectations of different IoT users. The evaluation is thus more focused on how ready and usable these platforms are for IoT ecosystem players, rather than on the peculiarities of the underlying technological layers. The evaluation is carried out as a gap analysis of the current IoT landscape with respect to (i) the support for heterogeneous sensing and actuating technologies, (ii) the data ownership and its implications for security and privacy, (iii) data processing and data sharing capabilities, (iv) the support offered to application developers, (v) the completeness of an IoT ecosystem, and (vi) the availability of dedicated IoT marketplaces. The gap analysis aims to highlight the deficiencies of today's solutions to improve their integration to tomorrow's ecosystems. In order to strengthen the finding of our analysis, we conducted a survey among the partners of the Finnish IoT program, counting over 350 experts, to evaluate the most critical issues for the development of future IoT platforms.
