We present a practical method to solve Faddeev three-body equations at energies above three-body breakup threshold as integral equations in coordinate space. This is an extension of previously used method for bound states and scattering states below three-body breakup threshold energy. We show that breakup components in three-body reactions produce long-range effects on Faddeev integral kernels in coordinate space, and propose numerical procedures to treat these effects. Using these techniques, we solve Faddeev equations for neutron-deuteron scattering to compare with benchmark solutions.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures, to be published in Few-Body System

Effects of a synthesized plant growth regulator 4,4,4–trifluoro–3–(indole–3–)–butyric acid (TFIBA) on thickening growth of radish hypocotyls were investigated. The thickening growth of radish hypocotyls, which are the edible part, was stimulated by TFIBA applied to the seeds before transplanting. The fresh weight of the hypocotyls in the seedlings treated with 10-4mol L-1 (10-4M) TFIBA solution significantly increased during cultivation in a growth chamber for 28 days as compared to that in the control. However, such significant increase was not observed in the seedlings treated with 10-5mol L-1 (10-5M) TFIBA solution. The fresh weight and maximal diameter of hypocotyls in the seedlings treated with TFIBA solution of 10-4M and 10-5M were significantly increased by 30–50 % as compared to those of the control at 35 days after transplanting when the seedlings were cultured in a green house under natural light and temperature conditions. The length of hypocotyls in the seedlings treated with 10-4M and 10-5M TFIBA increased approximately 20–50 % during the early growth stage as compared to that in the control. The fresh and dry weight of the shoots in the seedlings was apparently increased by treatment with 10-4M and 10-5M TFIBA solutions at 35 days after transplanting. These results suggest that TFIBA stimulates hypocotyl elongation and total photosynthetic activity in the shoots and results in promotion of thickening growth of the hypocotyls.

THE TEMPORAL SEQUENCE OF JOINT KINEMATICS IN A SIDEARM THROW OF A FLYING DISC FOR DISTANCE

The aim of the present study was to quantify the temporal sequence of joint kinematics in a sidearm throw of a flying disc by skilled throwers. Seven skilled throwers used a sidearm motion to throw a flying disc as far as possible. Three-dimensional kinematics of the trunk, throwing-arm and disc were recorded using a motion capture system, and maximum linear and angular velocity of each joint and the disc were computed. The maximal linear velocity of the elbow occurred before than the maximal linear velocity of the shoulder. This sequence could be due to the timing of maximal shoulder adduction velocity, which occurred earlier than the maximal angular velocities of trunk. In conclusion, coaches and players should consider this temporal order when they technically coach the sidearm motion for disc throws

Formulation of n-d Elastic and Breakup Reactions in Terms of the Faddeev Equation with a Local Potential

We present a heuristic description of a practical theory of n-d elastic and breakup reactions. This is a new version of our three-body theory based on the Faddeev equation with a local potential in coordinate space. We reformulate our previous treatment as legible as possible, and made the following revisions: (i) The structure of the theory is centered on the elastic part of the Faddeev wave function. The breakup components are deduced as necessary ingredients of the elastic part. (ii) Since elastic channel must contain all possible spectator partial waves, it is treated in terms of a multi-channel coupled equation. (iii) Breakup processes to two-body partial waves other than ^lS_O are treated as the perturbation. (iv) The logarithmic singularities in the Faddeev Kernel in the breakup channel are studied in detail, and a practical method of solving our key equation is suggested based on the knowledge of the singularity structure of the solution. The presentation is detailed enough so that the formulas can immediately be transcribed to suit actual coding of a computational program

As a preliminary step for handling the three-body scattering problems, here we present the following three new methods: A method of acceleration for iterative calculations, a method for treating the scattering from a non-local potential, and a method for treating the three-body breakup channel. Convergence of elastic scattering channel is studied

Attenuation of agonist-induced desensitization of the rat substance P receptor by progressive truncation of the C-terminus

AbstractWe have investigated the C-terminal tail of the rat substance P receptor (SPR) as a domain essential for agonist-induced desensitization. Four progressively shorter mutants, using premature termination in the C-terminus, were constructed and compared with the unaltered SPR using ectopic expression of wild-type and mutant receptors in Xenopus oocytes. These mutants were designated D16, D47, D70 and D96 with 16, 47, 70 and 96 amino acids residues deleted from the tail, respectively. Wild type SPR, D16 and D47 exhibited normal current responses when challenged with substance P, but D70 and D96 had reduced maximal current responses (70% and 5% of wild type SPR, respectively). D70, however, exhibited substantial resistance to substance P-induced desensitization in that 55%, versus 8% for wild type SPR, of the peak current of the first response was preserved on second challenge with substance P. Therefore, a domain from residues 338 to 360 of the rat SPR, though not necessary for the functional activity of the receptor, plays an essential role in agonist-induced desensitization
