    CREATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL ENERGY TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT (CASE STUDY OF WONOGIRI RESERVOIR)

    Hydroelectric power plants in Indonesia are widely developed. This is because the water supply in Indonesia is quite abundant. Several large reservoirs in Indonesia, in addition to being used for water reservoirs, are used to produce electricity. Wonogiri is a region that is located in Central Java province, where most of the region is arid land that cannot be planted in the dry season. In the rainy season the abundance of water plants to die and the soil is such that in the dry season crops do not grow well. Plans for the construction of Gajah Mungkur started in 1964, and it is designed to be a multipurpose dam project that aim to control floods, supply water for irrigation and hydropower in the Solo River valley. The master development plan was formulated in 1972-1974 with the help of Overseas Technical Cooperation of Japan. The results of this study include the completion of flooding problems along the Solo River, the increase in agricultural output in Winton community with irrigation facilities and good infrastructure, availability of electricity for communities around the dam and improving the local economy as the development of inland fisheries and tourism sectors

    Simple Forward Finite Difference for Computing Reproduction Number of COVID-19 in Indonesia During the New Normal

    The research purpose shown in this article is describing the time dependent reproduction number of coronavirus called by COVID-19 in the new normal period  for 3 types areas, i.e. small, medium and global areas by considering the number of people in these areas.  It is known that in early June 2020, Indonesia has claimed to open activities during the pandemic with the new normal system. Though the number of COVID-19 cases is still increasing in almost infected areas, normal activities are coming back with healty care protocols where public areas are opened as usual with certain restrictions. In order to have observations of spreading impact of COVID-19, the basic reproduction number (Ro)  i.e. the reproduction number (Ro) is the ratio between 2 parameters of SIR model where SIR stands for Susceptible individuals, Infected individuals, and Recovered individuals respectively. The reproduction numbers  are computed as discrete values depending on time. The used research method is  finite difference scheme for computing rate of change parameters in SIR models based on the COVID-19 cases in Indonesia (global area), Jakarta (medium area) and Salatiga (small area) by considering the number of people in these areas respectively. The simple forward finite difference is employed to the SIR model to have time dependent of parameters. The second approach is using the governing linear system to obtain the values of parameter daily. These parameters are computed for each day such that the values of Ro are obtained as function of time. The research result shows that 3 types areas give the same profiles of parameters that the rate of changes of reproduction numbers are decreasing with respect to time. This concludes that the reproduction numbers are most likely decreasing

    Boron Neutron Capture Therapy for Cancer: Future Prospects in Indonesia

    Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a form of cancer therapy based on the interaction of low-energy thermal neutrons and boron-10 (10-B) to produce alpha radiation from He-4 and Li-7 with a high linear energy transfer. A beam of neutrons irradiates a boron drug injected into the tumor, resulting in the boron-injected cancer cells receiving a lethal dose of radiation with the surrounding, healthy cells being minimally affected. Two boron drugs have been used clinically in BNCT, boron sodium captate (BSH) and borophenylalanine (BPA), while a third, pentagamaboronon-0 (PGB-0), is currently under development in the Faculty of Pharmacy of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. In Indonesia, there has been a growing interest in the study and use of BNCT to treat cancer, as this method is expected to be safer and more effective than traditional cancer treatment methods

    Rockwell Hardness Testing of Pure Nickel Collimators for BNCT Application

    In this study, Rockwell and Brinell hardness testing was used to examine material hardness. These methods were chosen because they are easy to carry out, relatively inexpensive, and almost all sizes and shapes can be tested, in which nickel hardness before and after centrifugal casting are identified and compared. These tests enable the determination of the hardness numbers of nickel collimators using for boron neutron capture therapy. The samples were five nickel plates with a dimension of 4.5 × 4.5 cm and five collimators. The collimators were cylindrical and made using centrifugal casting. The basic principle of the hardness test was to apply loading on the object being tested. The Rockwell test was used to assess the material's hardness from the difference of indentation depth, while the Brinell test was used to determine the hardness from the diameter of indentation. From the results of this test, the hardness number of nickel before centrifugal casting is 168.53 BHN or 86.13 HRB, while the hardness number after centrifugal casting is 115.68 BHN or 64.84 HRB. It can therefore be concluded that centrifugal casting decreased nickel hardness

    Susceptible Vaccine Infected Removed (SVIR) Model for COVID-19 Cases in Indonesia

    Analysis of data on COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is shown by using the Susceptible Vaccine Infected Removed (SVIR) in this article. In the previous research, cases in the period March-May 2021 were studied, and the reproduction number was computed based on the Susceptible Infected Removed (SIR) model. The prediction did not agree with the real data. Therefore the objective of this article is to improve the model by adding the vaccine variable leading to the new model called the SVIR model as the novelty of this article. The used data are collected from COVID-19 cases of the Indonesian population published by the Indonesian government from March 2020-April 2022. However, the vaccinated persons with COVID-19 cases have been recorded since January 2022. Therefore the models rely on the period January 2021-March 2022, where the parameters in the SIR and SVIR models are determined in this period. The method used is discretizing the models into linear systems, and these systems are solved by Ordinary Least Square (OLS) for time-dependent parameters. It is assumed that the birth rate and death rate in the considered period are constant. Additionally, individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 will not be infected again, and vaccination is not necessarily twice. Furthermore, individuals who have been vaccinated will not be infected with the COVID-19 virus. The SVIR model has captured 3 waves of COVID-19 cases that are appropriate to the real situation in Indonesia from January 2021-March 2022. Additionally, the reproduction numbers as functions of time have been generated. The fluctuations of reproduction numbers agree with the real data. For further research, different regions such as districts in Java and other islands will also be analyzed as the implication of this research
