    Effects of Macroeconomic News on Hong Kong Bond Market: An Intraday Empirical Evidence.

    This research paper investigates the effect of six macroeconomic news announcements on the Hong Kong bond market. The five bonds chosen for the purpose of this study are; two year sovereign debt bond, five year government Treasury bond, seven year corporate market bond, ten year government Treasury bond and thirteen year corporate market bond. In particular we look at the effect of the six macroeconomic news announcements on bond prices and bond bid-ask spreads. The effect of the magnitude or the size of the surprise element on the bond is also investigated. We find three out of the six macroeconomict announcements to affect the government and corporate bonds significantly. We also find a widening of spreads after announcements for government Treasury bonds and a narrowing of spread for corporate market bonds. In conclusion, we find the government Treasury bonds to be more responsive than corporate market bonds

    Laparoscopic total colectomy in an eight-year-old with familial adenomatous polyposis: A case report

    Familial Adenomatous Polyposis accounts for20 years of age. Endoscopy is essential for the diagnosis with definitive treatment involving prophylactic total colectomy. With current surgical advances, this is routinely being performed with the aid of laparoscopy. Due to resource limitations and non-availability of the screening programs in the developing world, such cases remain under diagnosed. Genetic testing is necessary for prognostication of both the index case and their at-risk family members. Thus, we present a rare case of an eight-year-old female, with an early onset progression to colorectal cancer with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis. We performed a prophylactic laparoscopic total procto-colectomy with ileo-anal anastomosis, which to our knowledge is the first ever-performed procedure in Pakistan. We conclude that progression to colorectal carcinoma in familial adenomatous polyposis can present at an earlier age than that reported in the literature. Laparoscopic total colectomy has similar outcomes than open surgical methods with better cosmetic results

    Impact of Multiphase Computed Tomography Angiography for Endovascular Treatment Decision-Making on Outcomes in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke

We aim to compare how these imaging paradigms perform for EVT patient selection and outcome estimation. Methods Prospective multi-center cohort study of patients with AIS symptoms with multi-phase computed tomography angiography (mCTA) and computed tomography perfusion (CTP) baseline imaging. mCTA-based EVT-eligibility was defined as presence of large vessel occlusion (LVO) and moderate-to-good collaterals on mCTA. CTP-based eligibility was defined as presence of LVO, ischemic core (defined on relative cerebral blood flow, absolute cerebral blood flow, and cerebral blood volume maps) 1.8, absolute mismatch >15 mL. EVT-eligibility and adjusted rates of good outcome (modified Rankin Scale 0-2) based on these imaging paradigms were compared. Results Of 289/464 patients with LVO, 263 (91%) were EVT-eligible by mCTA-criteria versus 63 (22%), 19 (7%) and 103 (36%) by rCBF, aCBF, and CBV-CTP-criteria. CTP and mCTA-criteria were discordant in 40% to 53%. Estimated outcomes were best in patients who met both mCTA and CTP eligibility-criteria and were treated with EVT (62% to 87% good outcome). Patients eligible for EVT by mCTA-criteria and not by CTP-criteria receiving EVT achieved good outcome rates of 53% to 57%. Few patients met CTP-criteria and not mCTA-criteria for EVT. Conclusions Simpler imaging selection criteria that rely on little else than detection of the occluded blood vessel may be more sensitive and less specific, thus resulting in more patients being offered EVT and arguably benefiting from it.This study was supported by a grant from the Canadian Institute of Health Research.     Diarrhea Outbreak Caused by Contaminated Water used for Vegetables Sale

    Water has always played a prominent role in human civilization. The water sources used for supplying water were not always clean, and coliforms are the major source of diarrheal infections especially in developing countries and hence contaminated water is the main reason for the spread of these coliforms with in a community by different ways. The contamination of water used in vegetables by pathogens cause diarrheal disease is the most important aspect of vegetables quality. This problem arises as a consequence of contamination of water by faecal matter, particularly human faecal matter, containing pathogenic organisms. Vegetable sellers usually use dirty/contaminated water to shower on vegetables to keep them fresh. This study describes the outbreaks of diarrheal diseases along with the reasons for the outbreaks. In our study we have used Membrane filter technique to test the quality of water used by the vegetable sellers. Purpose of this study is to detect the presence of coliforms which is associated with diarrheal infections due to fecal contamination. We examined the water samples by Membrane filter method in which we use 0.45µm filter paper which was soaked in peptone water and incubated at 37 oC for 24 hours, this peptone water was further streaked on MacConkey and EMB media. Additional identification of microorganisms was done by microscopy and biochemical tests. Observed results revealed that the water is fecally contaminated and the microorganisms isolated were as with described percentages E.coli 12%, Klebsiella 40%, Proteus 44%, Pseudomonas 20%, Shigella 8%, Salmonella 4% and Enterobacter 4% who are the members of coliforms.     Usability Evaluation of E-Commerce Mobile Application

    Mobile is not only reducing the distance between the people; it is also providing easiness for people to buy items remotely in just one click. In today’s global village, different companies like Ali Express, eBay, Amazon, Daraz, Olx, Goto, and others have provided electronic commerce (e-commerce) platforms by offering facilities of mobile applications for users. During the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the e-commerce landscape is changing rapidly, and on top of health concerns, brands across the globe are concerned about how COVID-19 will impact e-commerce. Most of the people all around the world using these e-commerce applications for grocery, daily usage products, or for clothing. Providing a better User Experience (UX) to the users, the user interface (UI) of e-commerce applications should be simple and easy to use for attracting users. But there are usability issues that developers cannot comprehend because these issues can only be identified with the help of users interacting with the UI. Therefore, to evaluate the usability and to find out the user’s satisfaction System Usability Scale (SUS) is conducted on popular e-commerce mobile applications, including Ali Express, Daraz, and Goto. Sixty-Eight participants evaluated the interface from Pakistan. The results illustrated 71%, 69%, and 55% user satisfaction for Ali Express, Daraz, and Goto, respectively. Moreover, five usability experts evaluated the Goto interface to identify the existing issues in the UI. The results revealed a path for designers to develop an efficient UI interface for e-commerce applications

    The Effects of Osmosis and Thermo-Priming on Salinity Stress Tolerance in Vigna radiata L.

    A plant’s response to osmotic stress is a complex phenomenon that causes many abnormal symptoms due to limitations in growth and development or even the loss of yield. The current research aimed to analyze the agronomical, physiological, and biochemical mechanisms accompanying the acquisition of salt resistance in the Vigna radiata L. variety ‘Ramzan’ using seed osmo- and thermopriming in the presence of PEG-4000 and 4 °C under induced salinity stresses of 100 and 150 mM NaCl. Seeds were collected from CCRI, Nowshera, and sowing was undertaken in triplicate at the Department of Botany, Peshawar University, during the 2018–2019 growing season. Rhizospheric soil pH (6.0), E.C (2.41 ds/m), field capacity, and moisture content level were estimated in the present study. We observed from the estimated results that the agronomic characteristics, i.e., shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight in T9 (4oC + 150 mM NaCl), root fresh weight and root dry weight in T4 (PEG + 100 mM NaCl), shoot moisture content in T5 (PEG + 100 mM NaCl), and root moisture content in T6 (PEG + 150 mM NaCl) were the highest, followed by the lowest in T1 (both shoot and root fresh weights) and T2 (shoot and root dry weights). Similarly, the shoot moisture content was the maximum in T5 and the minimum in T6, and root moisture was the highest in T6. We observed from the estimated results that agronomical parameters including dry masses (T4, T6, T4), leaf area index, germination index, leaf area, total biomass, seed vigor index under treatment T9, and relative water content and water use efficiency during T5 and T6 were the highest. Plant physiological traits such as proline, SOD enhanced by T1, carotenoids in treatment T2, and chlorophyll and protein levels were the highest under treatment T4, whereas sugar and POD were highest under treatments T7 and T8. The principal component analysis enclosed 63.75% of the total variation among all biological components. These estimated results confirmed the positive resistance by Vigna radiata during osmopriming (PEG) and thermopriming (4 °C) on most of the features with great tolerance under a low-saline treatment such as T4 (PEG), T5 (PEG + 100 mM NaCl), T7 (4 °C), and T8 (4 °C + 100 mM NaCl), while it was susceptible in the case of T6 (PEG + 150 mM NaCl) and T9 (4 °C + 150 mM NaCl) to high salt application. We found that the constraining impact of several priming techniques improved low salinity, which was regarded as economically inexpensive and initiated numerous metabolic processes in plants, hence decreasing germination time. The current study will have major applications for combatting the salinity problem induced by climate change in Pakistan

    International Liver Transplantation Society Global Census:First Look at Pediatric Liver Transplantation Activity Around the World

    Background. Over 16 000 children under the age of 15 died worldwide in 2017 because of liver disease. Pediatric liver transplantation (PLT) is currently the standard of care for these patients. The aim of this study is to describe global PLT activity and identify variations between regions. Methods. A survey was conducted from May 2018 to August 2019 to determine the current state of PLT. Transplant centers were categorized into quintile categories according to the year they performed their first PLT. Countries were classified according to gross national income per capita. Results. One hundred eight programs from 38 countries were included (68% response rate). 10 619 PLTs were performed within the last 5 y. High-income countries performed 4992 (46.4%) PLT, followed by upper-middle- (4704 [44·3%]) and lower-middle (993 [9·4%])-income countries. The most frequently used type of grafts worldwide are living donor grafts. A higher proportion of lower-middle-income countries (68·7%) performed ≥25 living donor liver transplants over the last 5 y compared to high-income countries (36%; P = 0.019). A greater proportion of programs from high-income countries have performed ≥25 whole liver transplants (52.4% versus 6.2%; P = 0.001) and ≥25 split/reduced liver transplants (53.2% versus 6.2%; P &lt; 0.001) compared to lower-middle-income countries. Conclusions. This study represents, to our knowledge, the most geographically comprehensive report on PLT activity and a first step toward global collaboration and data sharing for the greater good of children with liver disease; it is imperative that these centers share the lead in PLT.</p
