    Evaluation of the Sporting Situation and Emotional Intelligence Levels of Different Occupation Groups

    The contribution of the physiologic and cognitive processes is important for increasing the quality of the education and occupational productivity. The new researches done indicate that exercising frequency and emotional intelligence level have precious contributions on the occupational performances of the individuals. The purpose of this research was determined as evaluating the sporting situation and emotional intelligence levels of adults in different occupational groups. 586 individuals participated in the research, who works in various professions in Bartın Province. The information on the participant group and the other variables of the research was analyzed via descriptive statistic techniques. For evaluating the data, SPSS 21.0 package software was used and for analyzing the data, descriptive statistics, independent t-test and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) techniques were used. As a result of the data obtained, no significant difference was encountered in the emotional intelligence sub-dimensions and total scores depending on the sporting situation of the participants (p > 0.05). As a result of the analyses done for the gender variable, significant differences were obtained on behalf of the women and it was seen that emotional intelligence total scores of the female workers are higher compared with the male workers (p < 0.05). For the finding where the relations between age variable and emotional intelligence was evaluated, it was seen that there is a significant decrease in the emotional intelligence level with the increase in age (p < 0.05). This decrease was tried to be explained with occupational exhaustion. At the same time, the finding was arrived that the total emotional intelligence scores of the participants who work as teacher, compared with the other professions, is higher with a significant level compared with the other profession groups (p < 0.05). The findings of the research were discussed in the light of the literature and recommendations were offered for contributing to the new researches to be made

    06.03.2018 tarihli ve 30352 sayılı Resmi Gazetede yayımlanan “Yükseköğretim Kanunu İle Bazı Kanun Ve Kanun Hükmünde Kararnamelerde Değişiklik Yapılması Hakkında Kanun” ile 18.06.2018 tarihli “Lisansüstü TEZlerin Elektronik Ortamda Toplanması, Düzenlenmesi ve Erişime Açılmasına İlişkin Yönerge” gereğince tam metin erişime açılmıştır.The aim of this study is to examine the effect of positive and negative feedback on maximal voluntary contraction level of the Biceps Brachii muscle in athletes with different personality types. 49 student athletes, 21 of whom are female and 28 of whom are male, and studying at the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Sakarya University took part in the study. In the study, repetitive measurements and experimental research methods were applied. In the maximal voluntary muscular contraction (MVC) measurements, received reference values were determined before the feedback is provided, then the same measurements were conducted under the positive and negative feedback condition. Furthermore, in this study, personality and emotional intelligence inventories were used, considering the cause-effect relationships, the data concerning the superficial electromyography (sEMG) and the data from the psychometric measurements collected from the subjects were analyzed using the statistical packet program, SPSS 20. In the light of the findings of the study, different from the previous studies in the field, it was detected that the positive feedback has negative effects on males. On the other hand, negative feedback has an effect of the rise of the maximal voluntary muscular contraction in males (6,32 %) and females (11,4 %). In addition to this, the percentage changes of positive and negative feedback and the personality traits of the subjects were compared. As a result, it was determined that there was a significant difference (P<0,05) for gender in the relationship between positive and negative feedback and the conscientiousness. In the light of the findings of the study, the results were discussed and the suggestions were provided for further researches. Araştırmaya Sakarya Üniversitesi, Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi'nde öğrenim görmekte olan, 21'i kadın 28'i erkek olmak üzere toplam 49 sporcu öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmada tekrarlayan ölçümler ve deneysel desen metotları kullanılmıştır. Maksimal istemli kas kasılması (MVC) ölçümlerinde, öncelikle geri bildirim uygulanmadan alınan referans değerler tespit edilmiş, daha sonra olumlu ve olumsuz geri bildirim koşulu altında aynı ölçümler yapılmıştır. Ayrıca yapılan çalışmada kişilik ve duygusal zekâ ölçekleri kullanılmış, neden sonuç ilişkisi göz önünde bulundurularak, deneklerden alınan yüzeyel elektromiyografi (sEMG) verileri ile psikometrik ölçüm testlerinden elde edilen verilerin, SPSS 20 istatistik paket programı kullanılarak analizleri yapılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular sonucunda, alanda daha önce yapılmış olan çalışmalardan farklı olarak, olumlu geri bildirimin erkekler üzerinde olumsuz etkilerinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Olumsuz geri bildirimin ise erkek (%6,32) ve kızlarda (%11,44) maksimal istemli kas kasılmasında artışa neden olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Ayrıca katılımcıların olumlu ve olumsuz geri bildirim yüzde değişimleri ile kişilik özellikleri karşılaştırılmış, olumlu ve olumsuz geri bildirim ile özdenetim ilişkisi arasında cinsiyetler için anlamlı farklılık (P<0,05) bulunmuştur.     EXAMINING SOCIAL PHYSICS ANXIETY AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE LEVELS OF THE FACULTY OF SPORT SCIENCES STUDENTS

    The aim of this study was to examine the social physics anxiety and emotional intelligence levels of the Sakarya University Physical Education and Sports Faculty students. 214 university students voluntarily participated in the study. To collect data in addition to personal information form Turkish versions of “Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale” and the “Social Physical Anxiety Inventory” were used. SPSS 21 package program was used for statistical analysis and Pearson correlation and independent samples t-test were used to determine the significant correlations and differences. According to analyzed results, in the comparison of age related social physics anxiety levels of the students, a significant difference was found in favor of the students who were above 21 and over in negative evaluation expectation subscale and in social physics anxiety total scores (p <0.05). In the comparison of emotional intelligence scores, a significant difference was found in favor of women according to gender in total scores of optimism / mood regulation sub-dimension and emotional intelligence (p <0.05). Also, a significant negative correlation was found between emotional intelligence and social physical anxiety scores of the participants. As a result, it can be said that the increasing age is a factor in decreasing the anxiety level of the university students, the emotional intelligence levels of women are higher than the men and the social intelligence anxiety decreases as the level of emotional intelligence increases in university students

    Identification of expectations and encountered problems of the middle-school students participating in the sports activities

    In healthy societies, physical education and sport activities carry important roles in raising individuals. Previous scientific researches point out that physical activity is very important in the development process of the children. Therefore, children need to be supported in joining planned and systematic physical education and sport activities in both family and school life, beginning at very young ages. Every possibility should be offered to the children for performing sport activities healthily in the habitat while also taking precautions.The purpose of the study is to identify the expectations of the middle-school students and the problems they encounter when attending sport activities in their family and school lives. The data was collected through a survey developed by the researchers. A descriptive method with the aim of revealing the current situation was used in the study. The population of this study consisted of 2500 students, studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of the middle-school. Two middle schools from the schools within the Sakarya province were selected through a random selection method. The survey was applied to a total amount of 400 volunteer students that were selected as the sample group and studied in these schools. The SPSS 15.0 for Windows software was used for the data analysis. Frequency analysis was used in order to determine the quantity and percentage distributions of the demographic information of the participants. On the other hand, chi-square analysis was used for the comparison of the problems and expectations related to family and school life in regards to the demographic variables. The level of significance in the chi-square analysis was specified as p&lt;0,05.As a result of the study, in relation to the family and school life, the male students were found to have more problems and expectations regarding the participation in physical education and sport activities, when compared to female students. In addition to this, the students who participated in physical education and sport activities regularly seemed to have bigger expectations and more problems with their families.The problems and expectations of participating students regarding the family and school life were identified and suggestions for possible solutions were presented.     The population of this research was the students of Sakarya University, School of Physical Education and Sports. The sample was 227 students, who were chosen by simple random sampling method, from the departments of Physical Education and Sports, Sport Management and Recreation in the academic year of 2009-2010. The ACL personality test and a personal information form were used as the data collection tool. Validity and reliability study of ACL was made by Savran (2006). In this process, ACL and the personal information form were applied to participants twice providing two weeks between the applications. The scores of ACL was analyzed to check whether there are significant differences according to the independent variables. Independent sample t-test is used when there are two categories in the independent variables. In this research,  there were some significant variables at level of .05. Results showed that the participants’ personality traits significantly differ according to their perception of the social status of the profession, working in this profession in future, gender and dominant personality traits. ÖzetBu araştırmanın evrenini, Sakarya Üniversitesi’nde Beden Eğitimi ve Spor eğitimi alan öğrenciler; örneklemini ise Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Öğretmenliği, Spor Yöneticiliği Bölümü ve Rekreasyon Bölümü’nde 2009-2010 eğitim ve öğretim yılında öğrenimine devam etmekte olan ve tesadüfen seçilen gönüllü 227 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır.     INVESTIGATION OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE LEVEL OF PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN TURKISH 3TH LEAGUE

    The research was conducted to examine the emotional intelligence levels of the professional footballers who played in Turkey 2016-2017 Spor Toto 3rd League. For this purpose 112 male professional players who played in Ankara Adliye Sports, Ankara Demir Sports, Kocaeli Sports, Adana Kozan sports and Erzin sports teams in 2016-2017 Turkey Sports Toto 3rd League participated in this research voluntarily. In the study, descriptive scanning method with quantitative pattern was used. As a data collection tools, the personal information form prepared by the researcher and the revised Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale, developed by Schutte et al. (1998), revised as 41 items by Austin et al. (2004), and adapted to Turkish by Tatar, Tok and Saltukoğlu (2011), were used. SPSS 21 statistical program was used in the calculation and evaluation of the obtained data. When the results of the study were examined, it was seen that there was no statistically significant difference between licensed sports and emotional intelligence. It was found that there was no statistically significant difference between the age of being a professional and optimism / mood analysis and the use of emotions. There was a significant difference in the evaluation of emotions sub-dimension and overall mean. It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between position variable and optimism / mood and sub-dimensions of emotions.     The aim of this study is to determine the future expectations of amateur and professional footballers after their active football life. The amateur and professional football teams which participated the study were chosen randomly. 425 out of 644 questionnaires were completed willingly by the footballers. As well as demographic features of footballers such as marital status, age, football age, yearly income gained through football and education, future expectations of the footballers were determined through a questionnaire called ‘Questionnaire for Future Expectations’ developed by the researcher.  To analyze the data, some tests such as independent -samples, T test and one-way ANOVA were applied. In the findings part, arithmetic mean, frequency, percentage and standard deviation were given in tables. For 26 questions out of 32, a significant different was found according to whether they are amateur or professional. While it is statistically meaningful for 19 questions out of those 26 questions for amateur footballers, it is not the same for seven professional ones. When the means of the answers of the footballers participated the study were analyzed, the lowest mean was found for being a physiotherapist, working in the local and national mass and printed media. The highest mean was found similarly related to being a trainer and bringing skilled footballers by being a trainer in the youth set up. Bu 26 sorunun 19’undaki istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunan fark, amatör futbolcular için söz konusu iken, 7’sinin profesyonel futbolcular için söz konusu olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ankete katılan futbolcuların sorulara verdikleri cevapların ortalamaları incelendiğinde, her iki grupta da en düşük ortalama, fizyoterapist olmak ve yerel/ulusal yazılı basın ile görsel medyada çalışmakla ilgili olarak bulunmuştur. En yüksek ortalama ise benzer şekilde, antrenör olmak ve altyapıda antrenörlük yapıp yetenekli gençleri ülke futboluna kazandırmakla ilgili olarak tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan araştırma sonunda bazı öneriler sunulmuştur.
