    On the polar decomposition of right linear operators in quaternionic Hilbert spaces

    In this article we prove the existence of the polar decomposition for densely defined closed right linear operators in quaternionic Hilbert spaces: If TT is a densely defined closed right linear operator in a quaternionic Hilbert space HH, then there exists a partial isometry U0U_{0} such that T=U0TT = U_{0}|T|. In fact U0U_{0} is unique if N(U0)=N(T)N(U_{0}) = N(T). In particular, if HH is separable and UU is a partial isometry with T=UTT = U|T|, then we prove that U=U0U = U_{0} if and only if either N(T)={0}N(T) = \{0\} or R(T)={0}R(T)^{\bot} = \{0\}.Comment: 17 page

    Clinical outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with coronary artery disease: six months results from a single centre study

    Background: The study aimed to evaluate clinical outcomes in patients with coronary artery diseases (CAD) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), to identify the factors associated with clinical outcomes and survival among such patients, to explore the procedure related complications, and to assess restenosis and stent thrombosis rates following PCI.Methods: This retrospective, single-center, observational study was conducted at a tertiary-care center in India, which included patients with CAD undergoing PCI from January 2016 to December 2016. Angiographic and clinical success and complications related to both procedural and vascular access were noted. Patient were followed-up for clinical outcomes up to 6-months. Primary outcome of the study was all-cause mortality. Secondary outcome measures were cardiovascular mortality, and event free survival, angina, cardiovascular events and restenosis and stent thrombosis.Results: A total of 831 patients were included of which majority were males (83.5%). Smoking was found in 33.7%, diabetes in 35.6%, and hypertension in 37.7%. At 6-months, follow-up was obtained for 711 patients. The clinical composite endpoint seen in 9.8% of patients. Angina (13.2%), acute coronary syndrome (3.1%), stent thrombosis (1.0%), in-stent restenosis (3.9%), cardiovascular and all-cause mortality (2.7%), heart failure (7.3%) and stroke (1.7%) were reported at 6-months follow-up.Conclusions: The PCI in a tertiary-care centre leads to low rates of periprocedural events and low rates of clinical outcomes at 6-months follow-up. Moreover, left ventricular ejection fraction was shown to be major predictor for cardiovascular mortality in post-PCI patients. Hypertension was significantly associated with stroke post-PCI

    Staudinger/aza-Wittig Reaction to Access Nβ-Protected Amino Alkyl Isothiocyanates

    A unified approach to access Nβ-protected amino alkyl isothiocyanates using Nβ-protected amino alkyl azides through a general strategy of Staudinger/aza-Wittig reaction is described. The type of protocol used to access isothiocyanates depends on the availability of precursors and also, especially in the amino acid chemistry, on the behavior of other labile groups towards the reagents used in the protocols; fortunately, we were not concerned about both these factors as precursor-azides were prepared easily by standard protocols, and the present protocol can pave the way for accessing title compounds without affecting Boc, Cbz and Fmoc protecting groups, and benzyl and tertiary butyl groups in the side chains. The present strategy eliminates the need for the use of amines to obtain title compounds and thus, this method is step-economical; additional advantages include retention of chirality, convenient handling and easy purification. A few hitherto unreported compounds were also prepared, and all final compounds were completely characterized by IR, mass, optical rotation, and 1H and 13C NMR studies

    Portulaca oleracea inhibit vincristine induced peripheral neuropathy: involvement of ATP-sensitive K+ channels

    Background: The Portulaca oleracea belonging to portulacaceae family. It is a herbaceous plant widely distributed throughout the world and used in traditional medicine for many ailments. The present study was to evaluate the antinociceptive action of petroleum ether extract of P. oleracea in vincristine induced peripheral neuropathic pain and the possible mechanisms involved.Methods: Peripheral neuropathy was induced in rats by administration of vincristine sulfate (50 μg/kg i.p.) for 10 consecutive days. The cold tail hyperalgesia was assessed by cold water tail immersion test. To identify the possible mechanisms involved in the antinociceptive action of petroleum ether extract of P. oleracea, acetic acid writhing method was employed. Mice were pretreated with naloxone, glibenclamide before petroleum ether extract treatment to identify the involvement of opioid and potassium channels, respectively.Results: The administration of petroleum ether extract of P. oleracea (100 and 200 mg/kg p.o.) for 10 days significantly attenuated vincristine-induced cold hyperalgesia. Pre-treatment with glibenclamide reversed the antinociceptive effect of P. oleracea, but the naloxone pre-treatment did not reverse the antinociceptive activity of P. oleracea.Conclusion: The results of the present study reveal the antinociceptive effect of P. oleracea in vincristine induced peripheral neuropathy and involving ATP-sensitive potassium channels pathway

    A study of antinociceptive effect of venlafaxine in albino mice

    Background: Serotonin and norepinephrine are important neurotransmitters involved in pain inhibition in descending pain inhibitory tracts. Venlafaxine being an antidepressant exerts its mechanism mainly by inhibiting reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine like Tramadol. The objectives were to study the antinociceptive activity of Venlafaxine and its comparison with Pethidine.Methods: A total of 32 Swiss albino mice were divided into 4 groups with 8 animals in each group. Group 1 received normal saline as control in dose of 5ml/kg i.p, Group 2 received Pethidine as standard in dose of 30mg/kg s.c, Group 3 received Venlafaxine as in dose of 10mg/kg i.p and Group 4 received Venlafaxine in dose of 22.5mg/kg. Tail flick test and hot plate test were used for evaluating antinociceptive activity. All animals were subjected to the above mentioned tests before and 30 minutes after the administration of the drugs. Results were subjected to suitable statistical analysis.Results: The results from the above mentioned tests showed that Venlafaxine in dose of 10mg/kg showed significant antinociceptive activity as compared to normal saline (p 0.05). Venlafaxine in dose of 22.5mg/kg showed significant antinociceptive activity as compared to normal saline (p <0.05) and activity was comparable to Pethidine.Conclusions: Venlafaxine in both the doses showed significant antinociceptive activity in acute models of pain in animals

    Finite Element Analysis and Vibration Testing of a Simple Replicate Beam-Type Aircraft Wing with and without Secondary Structure Attached

    Ground vibration testing (GVT) is one of the most critical testing procedures for an airplane certification. With proper GVT, analysts can determine the stiffness distribution, natural frequencies, mode shapes and structural damping of each airplane components which are needed for flutter analysis and dynamic loads analysis. Hence the results from GVT are highly important. The problem identified in this paper is one that misleads the structural designing and might result in catastrophic situations, if proper attention is not given to the GVT results. During GVT, technicians and engineers attempt to instrument most of the primary components of the airplane, totally avoiding secondary structures such as bungees, gears, control surfaces, etc. The secondary structures are also of equal importance as the primary structures so that analysts can identify the in-phase and out-of- phase modes. If not, the tuning of the stiffness of the primary structure might not be accurate for flutter analysis, especially when the in-phase and out-of-phase modes are near to the structural modes of the primary structure. The goal of this paper is to recreate the above mentioned problem of the in-phase and out-of-phase mode for a small wing-gear like structure. The detailed objectives and methodologies of the work include, simulating the modal experiments and finite element analysis (FEA) on a free-free beam (primary structure) with and without flexible links (secondary structure) attached to them, determining the stiffness distribution and modal characteristics of the primary structure and the secondary structures, using GVT and FEA. Characterizing the in-phase and out-of- phase modes which involves both primary and secondary structure by signal processing and using simplified beam model (stick model) is another important goal of this research

    Low-Temperature Permittivity of Insulating Perovskite Manganites

    Measurements of the low-frequency (f<=100 kHz) permittivity and conductivity at T<= 150 K are reported for La(1-x)Ca(x)MnO(3) (0<=x<=1) and Ca(1-y)Sr(y)MnO(3) (0<=y<=0.75) having antiferromagnetic, insulating ground states covering a broad range of Mn valencies from Mn(3+) to Mn(4+). Static dielectric constants are determined from the low-T limiting behavior. With increasing T, relaxation peaks associated with charge-carrier hopping are observed in the real part of the permittivities and analyzed to determine dopant binding energies. The data are consistent with a simple model of hydrogenic impurity levels and imply effective masses m*/m_e~3 for the Mn(4+) compounds. Particularly interesting is a large dielectric constant (~100) associated with the C-type antiferromagnetic state near the composition La(0.2)Ca(0.8)MnO(3).Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures, PRB in pres
