Londrina (PR), durante as safras 2005/2006 e 2006/2007. Analysis of soybean yiel and possible climate implications. The technologies used in the production coupled with the climate variability can explain most of the fluctuations in the yield of soybean in different years. So, the objective of this research was to analyze the yield of soybean under different soil water availability. For this, experiments were conducted at Embrapa Soja - Londrina (PR) during the 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 seasons. The difference between the means of two seasons was 7.2%. In 2006/2007 season the rains were well distributed, resulting in better plant growth, thus slightly favoring higher yields than the in the previous season

Nanofibers as a Vehicle for the Synthetic Attactant TRIMEDLURE to be Used for Ceratitis capitata Wied: (Diptera, Tethritidae) Capture

The Mediterranean fruit fly (medfly), Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) is considered a serious pest of citrus fruits in the southeast of Brazil because of the direct economic impact they have on fruit production and quarantine restrictions for fruit exports. Monitoring and detection of the medfly, using food bait and synthetic attractants, is a key step towards signalling the need for management and control. The aim of this study has been to verify the attractiveness of innovative nanofiber formulations with Trimedlure (TML) for the male of C. capitata in laboratory and field cage tests.Material and Methods: The nanofibers were produced by solution or emulsion electrospinning, containing TML and polymers, such as polycaprolactone, PEG-polycaprolactone, ethyl cellulose and polyvinyl acetate-PVP.Results: At the laboratory the electrophysiological responses were accessed by the eletroanntenogram technique and in the field by the cage test. The bioactivity of C. capitata antennae was highest when stimulated with all TML nanofiber treatments rather than their controls. There were no differences among the TML nanofiber treatments. In the field cages the same number of medflies were found on the adhesive traps baited with one of each of the TML nanofibers

Immunohistochemical Expression of Growth Factors in the Follicular Wall of Normal and Cystic Ovaries of Sows

Contents: The expression of growth factors was evaluated immunohistochemically in normal and cystic ovaries of sows. The immunohistochemically stained area (IHCSA) was quantified by image analysis to analyse the expression of these proteins in the follicular wall of secondary, tertiary and cystic follicles. IGF-I immunoreactivity was strong in the granulosa cell layer (GC), moderate in the theca interna (TI) and mild in the theca externa (TE) of the normal follicles. There was severe reduction of the labelling to IGF-I in the GC of the follicular and luteinized cysts. In the normal follicles, the reactivity for IGF-II was very similar to pattern noted in IGF-I. There was reduction of the IHCSAs in the GC of the follicular and luteinized cysts, but the decrease was not significant. The staining of the IGF-II in the TI and TE of the cysts was increased, in comparison with normal follicles. The IHCSAs for VEGF were higher in the GC and TE of the normal follicles in contrast to TI, but this difference was noted only in the tertiary follicle. The VEGF reactivity increased in the GC of the cysts, in relation to normal follicles. The results of the current study show that the formation of ovarian cysts in sows is associated with alterations in the immunohistochemical expression of some growth factors.Fil: Sant'Ana, F. J. F..
