The analysis on how young people are introduced to sport is very topical, especially for soccer which in Italy has around 700,000 young players and more than 28,000 coaches. For these reasons the team sports, and the soccer in particular, are looking for a methodology capable of structuring more effectively the requirements necessary for the training of the future athlete / player. The relationship between the way to organize the youth training approach and the effects of this approach not only affect the learning skills effectiveness but also involve issues relating to the young athlete health

The reduction of physical activity is a phenomenon that affects the world population at all ages (childhood and adolescence, adulthood and third age) whose effects do not only concern the predisposition to risk factors for health but also more generally well-being and good individual bio-psycho-social functioning. Sedentary lifestyle, unfortunately, no longer affects adults and the elderly, but it is an unhealthy habit that is grafted more and more precociously, also extending to children and adolescents. In fact, during the developmental age we observe alarming trends of involution of motor skills with a general trend of reduction in the quality and quantity of movements in both children and adolescents; over the last fifty years, unfortunately, the coordination of school-age children has regressed, manifesting itself with a significant delay in the development of coordination especially in urban populations, as well as being affected by a serious and widespread problem of overweight and obesity in age paediatric. This paper analyses some special educational needs of movement during childhood and adolescence, even in the presence of disabilities, and tracks the main teaching methods that enhance the body and movement and the sensory perceptive syste

Nowadays all people can and must practice physical activity and engage themselves in various sports specialties. Among the various sports, swimming is ideal in all situations where the weight of the body is a problem, such as in cases of lower limbs disability (amputations, paralysis, etc.). The objective of this study is to investigate if disabled and not-disabled athletes can derive performance benefits and if it is possible to reduce the gap between the competition times between athletes, through a single, performance and training activity. The sample is made up of 12 athletes, including 6 disabled, belonging to the S2 category, and 6 not-disabled athletes skilled in the back. After an anamnesis and a careful initial valuation, it was proposed to all the athletes to do the HIIT method (for 4 weeks), Tabata method (for 4 weeks), and Pilates one (for 8 weeks). Moreover, to the disabled athletes were given physiotherapy sessions to increase joint ROM for 8 weeks. The aim is to promote social inclusion for disabled athletes, often marginalized by the group, to break down those who are the pillars of difference

The Interval Kicking Program (IKP) as a Reprogramming Technique for the Soccer Player in an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Rehabilitation: A Technical Report

Introduction. We can state as technical-athletic gestural movements that we might call clinical (pivoting, cutting maneuvers, sidestep cuts, changes of direction) associated with ACL injuries. Objective. This technical report was conducted to research methods of reprogramming basic technical skills in the soccer player after anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery. Technical report results. The Interval Kicking Program (IKP) is a model proposed as a neuromotor remodelling of basic gestures and techniques after an ACL injury in soccer player. The teaching progression is ordered regarding the diversified techniques of passing and receiving the ball. The volume, intensity, and progression steps are governed by 1) clinical status (i.e., type of injury, conservative/surgical treatment type, type of sport), 2) performance status, and 3) objective evaluative analysis of periodic follow-ups. The steps provid-ed by the IKP can be 15 and end with the introduction of the player into technical drills with the presence of opponents the first sessions include about 30 minutes of sport-specific, low-intensity exercises, while in the last ones, the volume remains constant, but the intensity and technical complexity of the movements increase. Conclusions. In this technical report, we have highlighted how IKP can be a teaching model for reprogramming basic technical skills in the soccer player after injury. It remains fair to point out how aberrant technical movement partners, side-to-side asymmetries, and postur-al dysfunction are predictive of the risk of compliance and second injury. Further studies and insights are needed to customize the reprogramming of the soccer player’s gestural movements during return to play. © 2023, EDRA S.p.A. All rights reserved

Italian consensus statement (2020) on return to play after lower limb muscle injury in football (soccer)

Return to play (RTP) decisions in football are currently based on expert opinion. No consensus guideline has been published to demonstrate an evidence-based decision-making process in football (soccer). Our aim was to provide a framework for evidence-based decision-making in RTP following lower limb muscle injuries sustained in football. A 1-day consensus meeting was held in Milan, on 31 August 2018, involving 66 national and international experts from various academic backgrounds. A narrative review of the current evidence for RTP decision-making in football was provided to delegates. Assembled experts came to a consensus on the best practice for managing RTP following lower limb muscle injuries via the Delphi process. Consensus was reached on (1) the definitions of return to training' and return to play' in football. We agreed on return to training' and RTP in football, the appropriate use of clinical and imaging assessments, and laboratory and field tests for return to training following lower limb muscle injury, and identified objective criteria for RTP based on global positioning system technology. Level of evidence IV, grade of recommendation D

The study aims to describe the effects an integrative core stability training on balance and walking speed in healthy elderly people over 65 years old: an adapted training program based on core stability exercises was introduced in the warm up phase. The study was conducted with active adults (n = 84, 38 males, 46 females) randomly divided into 2 groups: adapted core stability group (CSG, n = 40) with age, weight and height (mean ± ds) respectively of 68.2 ± 2.1 years, 69.87 ± 3.2 kg, 166.6 ± 4.8 cm; recreational group (RG, n = 44) with age, weight and height respectively of 68.9 ± 2.2 years, 68.7 ± 3.7 kg, 167 ± 2.8 cm. The sample performed for 10 weeks (3 sessions a week) the two different activities; before and after the training period (T0 and T1), the strength of the core district, static balance ability, dynamic balance and walking speed were evaluated. The results revealed a change in test scores across the two time periods (pre-intervention, post-intervention) for CSG in the McGill sit-up test (p < 0.01), in the trunk extension (p < 0.01), in the right side plank test (p < 0.01), in the left side plank (p < 0.01), in the left leg stance (p < 0.01) and right (p < 0.01), in the 8-foot-up-and-go (p < 0.01), in the 3-m backwards walk test (p < 0.01), in the tandem walk test (p < 0001), in the single- leg stance test left limb (p < 0.001) and right limb (p < 0.01). In the RG the only statistically significant difference observed between T0 and T1 was found in the 8-foot-up-and-go test (p < 0.05). The comparison between CSG and RG showed significant differences in all T1 tests in the CSG. The introduction of core stability exercises adapted to the over 65 population seems capable of determining advantageous transfers in some motor abilities. The choice of introducing these very static exercises in the warm-up phase allows people over 65 to progressively approach specific motor tasks who do not have particular motivations for controlled and systematic physical exercise

From traditional approach to ecological dynamics approach with the Italian young soccer players

The team sports are looking for a methodology capable of structuring more effectively the prerequisites necessary for the training of the future athlete/player. In recent years in the field of motor activities, methodological research has made it possible to outline new approaches aimed at involving the cognitive area together with the motor one. For many years, the demand for motor tasks in analytic form prevailed over other modes of presentation of the motor and technical task. This belief was due to linear motion patterns that were popular in motor behavior theories from the 1960s to 2000s and which somehow still prevail in current practice. However, the demands of mastering a soccer game require much more than just physical or technical skill. In fact, in sports open skills the perceptual, decisional and cognitive aspects play a very significant role in solving motor problems. This study describes the methodological paradigm change in the model of youth soccer starting in Italy, and aims to describe methods of intervention and phases that distinguish it from the traditional approach
