Lagrangian Floer potential of orbifold spheres
For each sphere with three orbifold points, we construct an algorithm to compute the open GromovâWitten potential, which serves as the quantum-corrected LandauâGinzburg mirror and is an infinite series in general. This gives the first class of general-type geometries whose full potentials can be computed. As a consequence we obtain an enumerative meaning of mirror maps for elliptic curve quotients. Furthermore, we prove that the open GromovâWitten potential is convergent, even in the general-type cases, and has an isolated singularity at the origin, which is an important ingredient of proving homological mirror symmetry.National Research Foundation of Korea; 2010-0019516; 2012R1A1A2003117; 2013R1A1A1058646 - National Research Foundation of Kore
Solvable Potentials from Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics
A recurrence relation of Riccati-type differential equations known in
supersymmetric quantum mechanics is investigated to find exactly solvable
potentials. Taking some simple {\it ans\"atze}, we find new classes of solvable
potentials as well as reproducing the known shape-invariant ones.Comment: 14 pages, Late
Increased Risk of Dementia in Patients with Atopic Dermatitis: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder with bimodal incidence peaks in early childhood and middle-aged and older adults. Few studies have focused on the risk of dementia in AD. The aims of this study were to analyse the incidence, and risk factors for dementia in patients with AD. This nationwide population-based retrospective cohort study enrolled 38,391 adults â„â40 years of age with AD and 2,643,602 controls without AD from the Korean National Health Insurance System (NHIS) database from 2009 to 2016. The cumulative incidence probability of all-cause dementia, Alzheimer\u27s disease, or vascular dementia at 8 years was 50, 39, and 7 per 1,000 person-years in patients with AD, respectively. The adjusted risks of all-cause dementia (hazard ratio (HR), 1.072; 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.026-1.120), and Alzheimer\u27s disease (HR 1.051; 95% CI 1.000-1.104) were increased in patients with AD. The effect of AD on the development of all-cause dementia and Alzheimer\u27s dementia varied according to age and diabetes mellitus (all p for interaction, \u3câ0.05). The risks of all-cause dementia and Alzheimer\u27s disease were increased in patients with AD. Management of modifiable risk factors is important for preventing dementia in patients with AD
Atopic Dermatitis and the Risk of Myocardial Infarction and All-Cause Mortality: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study
PURPOSE: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder associated with various comorbidities. However, inconsistent results on the risk of myocardial infarction (MI) and mortality have been reported in patients with AD. This study was aimed to evaluate the risk of MI and all-cause mortality in patients with AD.
METHODS: This nationwide population-based retrospective cohort study enrolled 56,205 adults â„ 20 years of age with AD and 3,825,609 controls without AD from the Korean National Health Service (NHIS) database from 2009 to 2016.
RESULTS: The risk of MI (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 1.111, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.050-1.176) was increased in patients with AD. By AD severity, patients with moderate-to-severe AD had a higher risk of MI (aHR, 1.163, 95% CI, 1.080-1.251) than individuals without AD. The risk of all-cause mortality was only increased for patients with moderate-to-severe AD (aHR, 1.096, 95% CI, 1.040-1.155) compared to individuals without AD. In subgroup analysis, an increased risk of MI was observed in female, non-obese, non-smoking, non-diabetic, and non-dyslipidemic patients with moderate-to-severe AD compared to individuals without AD. An increased risk of all-cause mortality was observed in patients with moderate-to-severe AD compared to non-AD controls among individuals â„60 years of age and non-smokers.
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of MI and all-cause death was increased in patients with moderate-to-severe AD. Even without well-known risk factors for MI and mortality, patients with AD require the proper management and screening for comorbidities to prevent MI and decrease all-cause mortality
Probabilistic ultimate strength analysis of submarine pressure hulls
ABSTRACTThis paper examines the application of structural reliability analysis to submarine pressure hulls to clarify the merits of probabilistic approach in respect thereof. Ultimate strength prediction methods which take the inelastic behavior of ring-stiffened cylindrical shells and hemispherical shells into account are reviewed. The modeling uncertainties in terms of bias and coefficient of variation for failure prediction methods in current design guidelines are defined by evaluating the compiled experimental data. A simple ultimate strength formulation for ring-stiffened cylinders taking into account the interaction between local and global failure modes and an ultimate strength formula for hemispherical shells which have better accuracy and reliability than current design codes are taken as basis for reliability analysis. The effects of randomness of geometrical and material properties on failure are assessed by a prelim-nary study on reference models. By evaluation of sensitivity factors important variables are determined and compare-sons are made with conclusions of previous reliability studies
Tau functions as Widom constants
We define a tau function for a generic Riemann-Hilbert problem posed on a
union of non-intersecting smooth closed curves with jump matrices analytic in
their neighborhood. The tau function depends on parameters of the jumps and is
expressed as the Fredholm determinant of an integral operator with block
integrable kernel constructed in terms of elementary parametrices. Its
logarithmic derivatives with respect to parameters are given by contour
integrals involving these parametrices and the solution of the Riemann-Hilbert
problem. In the case of one circle, the tau function coincides with Widom's
determinant arising in the asymptotics of block Toeplitz matrices. Our
construction gives the Jimbo-Miwa-Ueno tau function for Riemann-Hilbert
problems of isomonodromic origin (Painlev\'e VI, V, III, Garnier system, etc)
and the Sato-Segal-Wilson tau function for integrable hierarchies such as
Gelfand-Dickey and Drinfeld-Sokolov.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figure
Metformin: A Potential Treatment for Acne, Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Rosacea
Metformin is a widely used drug for treatment of diabetes mellitus, due to its safety and efficacy. In addition to its role as an antidiabetic drug, numerous beneficial effects of metformin have enabled its use in various diseases. Considering the anti-androgenic, anti-angiogenic, anti-fibrotic and antioxidant properties of metformin, it may have the potential to improve chronic inflammatory skin diseases. However, further evidence is needed to confirm the efficacy of metformin in dermatological conditions, This review focuses on exploring the therapeutic targets of metformin in acne vulgaris, hidradenitis suppurativa and rosacea, by studying their pathogeneses
Comparison of Single-Port Laparoscopy with Other Surgical Approaches in Endometrial Cancer Surgical Staging: Propensity-Score-Matched Analysis
This single-institution, retrospective study aimed to compare the surgical outcomes of single-port, multi-port, and robot-assisted laparoscopy, as well as laparotomy, in patients with endometrial cancer who underwent surgical staging between January 2006 and December 2017. This study evaluated various parameters, including disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), recurrence rate (RR), recurrence site, and intra- and postoperative complications. Propensity score matching was performed to account for baseline characteristics, and a total of 881 patients were included in the analysis. The 3-year DFS of single-port laparoscopy was similar to that of the other groups, but laparotomy exhibited a lower 3-year DFS compared to multi-port (p = 0.001) and robot-assisted (p = 0.031) laparoscopy. Single-port laparoscopy resulted in a significantly higher 3-year OS than laparotomy (p = 0.013). After propensity score matching, the four groups demonstrated similar survival outcomes (3-year DFS: p = 0.533; 3-year OS: p = 0.328) and recurrence rates (10.3%, 12.1%, 10.3%, and 15.9% in the single-port, multi-port, and robot-assisted laparoscopy and laparotomy groups, respectively, p = 0.552). Recurrence most commonly occurred in distant organs. The single-port laparoscopy group had the longest operative time (205.1 ± 76.9 min) but the least blood loss (69.5 ± 90.8 mL) and the shortest postoperative hospital stay (5.2 ± 2.3 days). In contrast, the laparotomy group had the shortest operative time (163.4 ± 51.0 min) but the highest blood loss (368.3 ± 326.4 mL) and the longest postoperative hospital stay (10.3 ± 4.6 days). The transfusion rate was 0% in the single-port laparoscopy group and 3.7% in the laparotomy group. Notably, the laparotomy group had the highest wound complication rate (p = 0.001), whereas no wound hernias were observed in the three minimally invasive approaches. In conclusion, the survival outcomes were comparable between the methods, with the benefit of lower blood loss and shorter hospital stay observed in the single-port laparoscopy group. This study suggests that single-port laparoscopy is a feasible approach for endometrial cancer surgical staging
