Implications of the first detection of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) with Liquid Argon
The CENNS-10 experiment of the COHERENT collaboration has recently reported
the first detection of coherent-elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) in
liquid Argon with more than significance. In this work, we exploit
the new data in order to probe various interesting parameters which are of key
importance to CEvNS within and beyond the Standard Model. A dedicated
statistical analysis of these data shows that the current constraints are
significantly improved in most cases. We derive a first measurement of the
neutron rms charge radius of Argon, and also an improved determination of the
weak mixing angle in the low energy regime. We also update the constraints on
neutrino non-standard interactions, electromagnetic properties and light
mediators with respect to those derived from the first COHERENT-CsI data.Comment: discussion expanded including light mediators and nuclear

The circumstellar environment of HD50138 revealed by VLTI/AMBER at high angular resolution
HD50138 is a Herbig B[e] star with a circumstellar disc detected at IR and mm
wavelength. Its brightness makes it a good candidate for NIR interferometry
observations. We aim to resolve, spatially and spectrally, the continuum and
hydrogen emission lines in the 2.12-2.47 micron region, to shed light on the
immediate circumstellar environment of the star. VLTI/AMBER K-band observations
provide spectra, visibilities, differential phases, and closure phases along
three long baselines for the continuum, and HI emission in Br and five
high-n Pfund lines. By computing the pure-line visibilities, we derive the
angular size of the different line-emitting regions. A simple LTE model was
created to constrain the physical conditions of HI emitting region. The
continuum region cannot be reproduced by a geometrical 2D elongated Gaussian
fitting model. We estimate the size of the region to be 1 au. We find the
Br and Pfund lines come from a more compact region of size 0.4 au. The
Br line exhibits an S-shaped differential phase, indicative of
rotation. The continuum and Br line closure phase show offsets of
-255 and 2010, respectively. This is evidence of an
asymmetry in their origin, but with opposing directions. We find that we cannot
converge on constraints for the HI physical parameters without a more detailed
model. Our analysis reveals that HD50138 hosts a complex circumstellar
environment. Its continuum emission cannot be reproduced by a simple disc
brightness distribution. Similarly, several components must be evoked to
reproduce the interferometric observables within the Br, line.
Combining the spectroscopic and interferometric data of the Br and
Pfund lines favours an origin in a wind region with a large opening angle.

EDROOM: a free tool for the UML2 component based design and automatic code generation of tiny embedded real time system
International audienceThe use of tiny real time kernels to develop embedded systems is broadly extended. They offer basic services with small overhead footprints in the final product. Usually, these kind of kernels are compliant with the POSIX 1003.13 specification. The use of graphical modelling and automatic code generation tools for developing these kind of small software embedded system if often not considered for several reasons: they are expensive, the learning curve to obtain benefits is often large and finally the generated code usually does not fit well with the platform or exceed the desired size. In this paper we present the adaptation of a free tool, known as EDROOM, to develop this kind of real time software system. EDROOM is inspired on the ROOM modelling language and provides graphical modelling and automatic Embedded C++ code generation. EDROOM is compliant with the new UML2 graphical notation for component based system design and hierarchical behaviour. The new version of EDROOM is a cross development multiplatform generation tool and includes facilities for static control of all resources in order to completely avoid the use of dynamic memory. Our tool has been used in the software development of a small satellite (NANOSAT-01) which is fully functional nowadays. The tool is free distributed in conjunction with a group of code test bench that can be used to validate any port to another architecture
On Doppler tracking in cosmological spacetimes
We give a rigorous derivation of the general-relativistic formula for the
two-way Doppler tracking of a spacecraft in Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker
and in McVittie spacetimes. The leading order corrections of the so-determined
acceleration to the Newtonian acceleration are due to special-relativistic
effects and cosmological expansion. The latter, although linear in the Hubble

Human Chromosomes: Evaluation of Processing Techniques for Scanning Electron Microscopy
Methods for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of chromosomes have been developed in the last two decades. Technical limitations in the study of human chromosomes, however, have hindered the routine use of SEM in clinical and experimental human cytogenetics. We compared different methodologies, including metal impregnation, air drying and specimen coating. SEM preparation of human chromosomes in which osmium impregnation is mediated by tannic acid, yielded more reproducible results when compared with osmium impregnation protocols previously described. The level of osmium impregnation was systematically evaluated by imaging chromosomes in the backscattering mode. Critical point drying and a light gold-palladium coating were essential for appropriate secondary electron imaging of chromosomes. With this method, and in a preliminary quantitative analysis, we show that our SEM technique is mere sensitive than light microscopy for the detection of aphidicolin-induced fragile sites. This technical approach is useful for chromosomal studies requiring resolution higher than that obtained by light microscopy. Also, it allows the use of clinical and archival chromosomal samples prepared by routine cytogenetic techniques
