    Get PDF
The growth parameters and age for the fish species from the lake (O. niloticus, S. galilaeus and B. bayad) were computed through interpretation of marks found on their Opercula bones which were then fitted into Vonbertallanfy growth model. Their asymptotic length (L∞) ranged from 175mm – 520nm. The growth performance index Ф’ ranged from 3.6622 – 4.9420 and K value from 0.10 – 0.35. O. niloticus L∞, K and Ф’ values ranged from 175mm- 192.5mm, 0.15 – 0.25, 3.6622 – 3.9668 and were found to live up to 7+ years in the lake. The values of S. galilaeus ranged from 200mm – 240mm, 0.12 – 0.17 and 3.8211 – 3.8222 and living up to 5+ while B. bayad had a range of 500mm – 520mm, 0.10 – 0.35, 4.4320 – 4.9420 and lives up to 6+ in the lake. All the growth parameters for the fish species were fitted into the Vonbertallanfy growth model.Lt=L∞ (i-e – k (t-to

A Survey on the Path Computation Element (PCE) Architecture

    Get PDF
Quality of Service-enabled applications and services rely on Traffic Engineering-based (TE) Label Switched Paths (LSP) established in core networks and controlled by the GMPLS control plane. Path computation process is crucial to achieve the desired TE objective. Its actual effectiveness depends on a number of factors. Mechanisms utilized to update topology and TE information, as well as the latency between path computation and resource reservation, which is typically distributed, may affect path computation efficiency. Moreover, TE visibility is limited in many network scenarios, such as multi-layer, multi-domain and multi-carrier networks, and it may negatively impact resource utilization. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has promoted the Path Computation Element (PCE) architecture, proposing a dedicated network entity devoted to path computation process. The PCE represents a flexible instrument to overcome visibility and distributed provisioning inefficiencies. Communications between path computation clients (PCC) and PCEs, realized through the PCE Protocol (PCEP), also enable inter-PCE communications offering an attractive way to perform TE-based path computation among cooperating PCEs in multi-layer/domain scenarios, while preserving scalability and confidentiality. This survey presents the state-of-the-art on the PCE architecture for GMPLS-controlled networks carried out by research and standardization community. In this work, packet (i.e., MPLS-TE and MPLS-TP) and wavelength/spectrum (i.e., WSON and SSON) switching capabilities are the considered technological platforms, in which the PCE is shown to achieve a number of evident benefits

Interpersonal interactions and empathy modulate perception of threat and defensive responses

    Get PDF
The defensive peripersonal space (DPPS) is a vital "safety margin" surrounding the body. When a threatening stimulus is delivered inside the DPPS, subcortical defensive responses like the hand-blink reflex (HBR) are adjusted depending on the perceived threat content. In three experiments, we explored whether and how defensive responses are affected by the interpersonal interaction within the DPPS of the face. In Experiment 1, we found that the HBR is enhanced when the threat is brought close to the face not only by one's own stimulated hand, but also by another person's hand, although to a significantly lesser extent. In Experiments 2 and 3, we found that the HBR is also enhanced when the hand of the participant enters the DPPS of another individual, either in egocentric or in allocentric perspective. This enhancement is larger in participants with strong empathic tendency when the other individual is in a third person perspective. These results indicate that interpersonal interactions shape perception of threat and defensive responses. These effects are particularly evident in individuals with greater tendency to having empathic concern to other people

Assessment of heavy metals in water and fish from Ibrahim Adamu Lake, Jigawa, Nigeria

    Get PDF
The study was conducted to assess the levels of heavy metals in water and the flesh of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Water and tilapia were sampled for a period of 12 months from October, 2003-september 2004. Water and muscle tissue were analysed for Cu, Cr, pb, and Zn using flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The assessment showed Cr (3.35mg/l), Cu (0.75mg/l), pb (0.81mg/l) in water while Cr(2.27mg/kg) and pb (0.27mg/kg) were found to be high in the tissue samples and were above the values recommended by WHO and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO)of the United Nations and therefore not safe for human consumption

Effects of different heat processing methods on the antinutritional factors (ANFS) level ofP. reticulatum seed meal

The antinutritional factors (ANFs) in raw and differently heat processed P. reticulatum seed meal were evaluated. The seed was processed as raw seed (T1), 30 minutes boiled (T2), 60 minutes boiled (T3), traditionally boiled (T4), 40 minutes toasted (T5), 80 minutes toasted (T6), 120 minutes toasted (T7) and traditionally roasted seed (T8). The seed meal was evaluated for saponin, tannin, cyanide, oxalate, phytate and phenols. The result showed that heat processing significantly (P < 0.05) affected the ANFs in the seed meal. Highest value of saponin (0.07mg/100g) was recorded in T1, while zero level of saponin was recorded in T4. The highest value (0.26mg/100g) of tannin was recorded in T1, while T4 recorded the least value (0.05mg/100g). Cyanide highest value of (0.17mg/100g) was observed in T1, while T4 recorded the least value (0.02mg/100g). The highest oxalate level was observed in T1 (0.04mg/100g) and zero level was recorded in T3, T4 and T8. Phytate highest level (0.14mg/100g) was recorded in T1, and zero level of phytate was recorded in T4. The highest phenol level was observed in T1 (0.06mg/100g) while zero level of phenol was recorded in T4. T4 is the most effective processing method that reduced all the ANFs with 100% reduction in saponin, oxalate, phytate and phenols. The processing methods used reduced the seed ANFs and therefore, indicated the possible utilization of the seed in animal feed formulation (fish inclusive). Keywords: Antinutritional factors, heat, P. reticulatum, processing, seed

This study shows that a two-step recovery scheme orchestrating lightpath transmission adaptation and evolved NodeB (eNB) functional split reconfiguration preserves the Virtualized RAN fronthaul connectivity even when network capacity is scarce. This work has been partially funded by the EU H2020 “5G-Transformer” Project (grant no. 761536

Improving the angular resolution of coded aperture instruments using a modified Lucy-Richardson algorithm for deconvolution

    Get PDF
A problem with coded-mask telescopes is the achievable angular resolution. For example, with the standard cross-correlation (CC) analysis, the INTEGRAL IBIS/ISGRI angular resolution is about 13'. We are currently investigating an iterative Lucy-Richardson (LR) algorithm. The LR algorithm can be used effectively when the PSF is known, but little or no information is available for the noise. This algorithm maximizes the probability of the restored image, under the assumption that the noise is Poisson distributed, which is appropriate for photon noise in the data, and converges to the maximum likelihood solution. We have modified the classical LR algorithm, adding non-negative constraints. It doesn't take into account of the features leading to a difference in PSF depending on position in the field of view (dead pixels, gaps between modules etc), which are easily corrected for in the classical CC analysis, so we must correct for these either after the restoration of the image or by modifing the data before the sky reconstruction. We present some results using real IBIS data indicating the power of the proposed reconstruction algorithm
